What about saving the brf file, putting it on your Braille display in the books folder of Scratchpad, and reading it that way? From what I’ve seen—I have a Focus 40 Blue as well—Scratchpad keeps your last location even if you close application and/or the books portion.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I would open the file with wordpad and silence the synth so it isn't
blabbing on and on while you are trying to read.

That's what I used to do anyway. The one problem with this approach is
you won't be able to mark your place unless you actually insert
something into the file. I used to write three asterisks and the words
stopped reading here. That way when you open the book again you will
be able to easily find where you left off reading.

when you need to copy more than one block of text in succession either from the same source or completely different sources, you can select and copy the first block by pressing control+c, and then append to it by selecting the second, third, fourth, etc. block and pressing insert+windows+c.

but if you select and copy the first block with control+c, and then select and copy the second, third, fourth, etc. block of text with control+c, the first block will be lost because it will be overwritten by the second, third, fourth, etc. block.

the reason I mentioned pasting the first block into a notepad document was that if you weren't aware of the append command and used control+c to copy the second block, you would not have lost the first block because it would have been pasted in a notepad document.

hope this makes sense to you. if not, maybe someone can explain it better. but if you already know about the append command, just ignore what I tried to explain.

yes. after pressing insert+spacebar and then h, you can select and copy
what JAWS has said in either Outlook and Word.

when you copy the first selection to the clipboard, you can continue to
append the second selection by pressing insert+windows+c. this way you
don't have to paste to something like notepad before copying the second

moderated Re: Microsoft Excel And Filters

Van Lant, Robin

I use filters a lot.

Go to a cell in your header row, then hit the Filter button on the Data ribbon to turn on filters for that entire row of headers.

When you want to filter a particular column, go do that column header and hit alt down arrow to expand the filter choices.

I’m usually filtering on txt in the cells.  The easiest way I find to do this is to Shift tab back three times till I hear Select all.  You’ll be passing over a cancel button and an OK button.

Then you arrow down the list of options, checking an unchecking the boxes you want to see or hide.  Annoyingly I cannot find a way to page down or use first letter navigation to quickly move through a long list.

If you know you want to see most of the rows, but hide just a few, leave the Select All option at the top check and arrow down to find the few options you want to filter out.

If you want to hide a majority of rows and only see certain items, then uncheck the Select All option at the top and move down to place a check in the text items you want.

Once you have that done, you just tab once to the OK  button and hit enter. .JAWS does not read this button clearly; it sounds something more like type the text you want OK.

Happy to talk more if you have specific questions as you try it.

Marlo,
Is it a file with a .ZIP extension?
First you have to unzip it and there should be a BRF file, and you should put that into the Braille display.
It should have an SD card to copy it into, and then find it via the file menu of the Braille display.

Get the manual for your unit and read about the scratchpad and how to put a book on the device to read it in the scratchpad.  That way you don't even need a computer to be involved once the book is moved.

This should have what you need:

yes. after pressing insert+spacebar and then h, you can select and copy
what JAWS has said in either Outlook and Word.

when you copy the first selection to the clipboard, you can continue to
append the second selection by pressing insert+windows+c. this way you
don't have to paste to something like notepad before copying the second
selection, because if you don't paste the contents of the clipboard to
something like notepad before copying the second selection, you'll lose
(overwrite) the first copied selection. if you already know this, please
ignore it as I don't want to confuse you.

press insert+spacebar and then h. the last 50 items that JAWS spoke last
will show up. then you can select and copy from it as if it were a
document. when you're finished using it, just press the escape key to
return to the program you were in before using the speech history.

Have you gone into Jaws speech history right after you heard this to
make sure Jaws really says "time table" and not something else which
sounds like it?

For me in Outlook Jaws simply says "edit" and in Word after I open a new

Word document it says "print, edit" which means it's set to the "print
view".
