Dear Ann & List:
Yes, to both questions. I believe the manual and such are listed in the Downloads section of the FS web site, near the bottom of the list of downloads. If you do not find them, call FS at (800) 444-4443 from Canada & us, elsewhere e-mail them. Brian K. Re: Jaws 2020 lag with Outlook 365
Zel Iscel
Norma,
That would be great if you could call Vispero about this issue.
You’re right, the lag doesn’t only occur when OneDrive is sincing. OneDrive, Outlook and Jaws open together don’t play well at all. Outlook also crashes when I try to search for particular emails. It’s definitely a Jaws issue as it doesn’t occur with NVDA.
And the issue definitely involves OneDrive because when I delete OneDrive and go back to Dropbox, Outlook plays beautifully when open with Jaws and Dropbox.
I hope this makes sense.
Cheers Zel

Hi Zel,
Yes, I use OneDrive for work and do experience the lag when folders are being synchronized. I think, though, that I am having the lag in Outlook even when no synchronization is occurring. I’ll have to double check that, though. I recall speaking with a MS disability help desk tech and he said it’s not possible to disable the synchronizing and I understand. Is there a workaround for this? And, again, I can’t help wonder why the lag is worse with J 2020. I need to take time to call Vispero about this.
Thanks, Norma

Hi David, I hear what you’re saying. I’m gonna have to call tech support and let them hear the lag. Here is the main part of their written response to my inquiry regarding this issue, it doesn’t directly address your issue but might prove insightful. Then again it might not. <smile> Best, Norma
In order to remedy some of your lagging problems, it would be best to make sure that the Outlook Reading Pane is turned off. When the Reading Pane is on, it causes a small window to the right bottom of the Inbox to show part of the message being highlighted. This can cause Outlook to noticeably lag when moving between the messages. If you continue to have problems, it would be best if you would contact our Technical Support Department by telephone at (727) 803-8000 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday at 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM EST.

I do notice a delay from the time I press enter to open a message until the time when JAWS begins reading the message. I first thought that this was an Outlook issue but I don't notice this delay as much when performing the same task using NVDA. With the preview pane disabled navigating through messages in the message list is responsive but opening a message is not. David Goldfield,

I have an older version of Office, and there are no spell check options in the edit tab, but it may be there in newer versions. But I'm willing to bet that if you turn on the automatic spell check in Word, it will follow in Excel. If not, you can use F7 to check the Excel document. Glenn

Re: Question about notifications

I Thank each of you who responded with suggestions. I learned this was something different. Somehow, this was connected with Edge. When I tried using Edge today for the first time since a year ago (when I didn’t like it), I got the “you have a new notification,” just like I got earlier. I didn’t have to do anything to read it—just listen and down arrow. Does this happen much? It was an ad for using Edge.

I do agree with you, though; sometimes, Jaws OCR scanning is another good way to resolve issues like this.

Hi Tom,
If you’re using the latest version of Jaws, sometimes I find it easier to do an OCR scan of the PDF file, and that allows me to read it much more comfortably. If it’s a big file, you have to wait 30 seconds or so but it’s worth it.
To do the OCR scan:
The scanning will begin and Jaws should make a clicking noise while it’s scanning.
Hope that helps.

Hello, everyone.
I am trying to read a multi-page PDF attachment I just received, but I can’t get Adobe Acrobat DC to advance beyond the first page.
Is there a setting I need to change to make this happen?
I used to be able to read multi-page documents with no problem, and wonder if something got changed in an update.
Thank you!

I sometimes do F7 to spellcheck in Excel. I prefer to not have the automatic spellcheck on because it's distracting to me. There should be a spellcheck tab in its settings, or it just uses Word's settings. Glenn

Hi, NVDA as well. I find, contrary to many beliefs, that having a quote on quote arsenal of screen readers is very useful in my daily life, just as the ability to work with multiple web browsers is too. As previously stated, many of the core functions of NVDA are similar to Jaws – one thing to keep in mind is how NVDA’s screen review works vs. object navigation versus the Jaws cursor and touch cursor.
