Greetings fellow Jaws users!

I'm a programmer and I'm in need of a new braille display. I currently have a Polaris and am unable to pair it to my computer due to technical issues with the unit. Therefore I'm in need of a new display, only a display this time as I don't make use of the other functions that come with a note-taking unit. To that end, I come to you fine people in hopes that someone will have some insight on displays.

I'm looking for feedback on 40 or 80 cell displays. I think perhaps the 80 cells will be too long for me, but since I need to read everything and every dot counts, 80 just might be what I need to be effective.  I've pretty much narrowed it to the BI/Brailliant or Focus models, but if anyone uses something else I'd gladly consider it as well.

Hi again Alan,

It worked, but there are a few oddities.

If I want it to work in my flashcard app, the top line needs to say “side 1 in A1, and “side 2” in b1.

The remainder of the items also need to take this format.

Is there an easy way to do this?

As I await a response from Vispero support, I’m wondering if anyone is experiencing the following:

I have noticed that the lag while using Outlook 365 with Jaws 2020 is even worse than with Jaws 2019. Arrowing through a message list, Jaws simply stops speaking. I can read the title of the window but that’s it. Then after 3-4 seconds I am able to proceed normally through the list. And it takes about 5 seconds before I can type a reply to a message.

A few months ago I asked about this lag while in a Outlook webinar with the Microsoft accessibility group. They acknowledged the problem but that was about all they said. I can hardly wait to see what Vispero’s take is.

I’m glad you don’t have a problem on your system, but do realize that every system is a little different and on some systems this is an issue which Freedom Scientific is aware of.

A JAWS webinar I listened to a while back talked about adding icons to the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel. I did this for the sort button, which I regularly use, Now I wonder if there is a quick way to get to that QAT toolbar other than tabbing through all the ribbons. I figure there must be if it was worth pointing out on a JAWS webinar, but I did not write any notes on how to do it.
