how to drag and drop on websites?
Brent Harding
Hi there! I am wondering, how one can deal with
drag and drop stuff on the web when using Jaws? For instance, with this one
thing I was trying to deal with, it asks you to drag a list of things in order
from most important to least important. I tried the lock mouse button command to
try to do it, but then the arrow keys won't read where I'm moving to. Is there
any way around this kind of thing besides getting someone to do it for
me?
Thanks

Jessica D <jldail13@...>
Hi, I know this isn’t directly related to jaws, but I’m using jaws 2020.
I’d like an efficient way to learn the commands for the Focus line of braille displays, since those items are covered on the certification exam.
I found a page that contains several tables of these commands, and would like to get all this data into a spreadsheet.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,

Just to point out that there are 2 Miscellaneous
folders in the Settings Center. 1 is a sub-folder of, Web / HTML / PDFs,
but the 2nd Miscellaneous folder is the 2nd from the bottom of the folder
list, and this is where the MSAA option is located. This is an application
specific setting only.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

One other option before you look at scripting:

Re: JAWS won't start after sign-in
Jason White
I once experienced this on a Windows 7 system. According to Freedom Scientific support, it was probably due to group policy settings (the machine was part of an Active Directory domain).
The solution was to copy the desktop shortcut for JAWS to shell:startup (which is where the user’s startup programs reside).

I’m glad you don’t have a problem on your system, but do realize that every system is a little different and on some systems this is an issue which Freedom Scientific is aware of.

Hi mike
If you stil need to remove the display from Jaws, you'll need to go into the Add Braille Display dialog. Then find your device in the list and uncheck it. Then follow the prompts to finish the removal.

Hey guys:
Somehow, Jaws says the active display is no display, but, The default combo box says that pm display is default; How do I reset the active display so it says pmdisplay and then sees it? Right now, jaws thinks that there is no braille display;
Please advise as you like.

I use Jaws 2020 and Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit and I have 4 PC’s at my business and a laptop at home and Jaws starts both at the login screen and after logon 100% of the time on all systems. Have you checked that Jaws is turned on in Windows Settings (Windows Key + I) > Apps > Startup?

Hi, Yes, I had the same problem with JAWS 2019. Both at log on and after getting to desktop. In both instances I used the JAWS hot keys to force a start. All my JAWS settings were correct and the Application file for JAWS was enabled on the start up menu. Freedom Scientific said they were aware of some users having this issue. I do not know if this occurs with 2020. I took out my password at log on and after starting the computer JAWS starts all the time at my desktop. So I don’t know if issue still exists with 2020 and I realize that most people need a log on password protected system. I work from my home and so for me not necessary. Mainly I want you to know that the issue is not just with you or your system. I would report to Freedom and or Microsoft Disability Desk for any possible answers or trouble shoot.

Hi!
I am using JAWS 2019 under Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, all updated. After signing-in, JAWS does not start. My laptop has two user accounts: Admin and Visitor. Both are password protected. I have set JAWS to always start at the logon screen (a.k.a., sign-in screen), and it does. But, after sign-in JAWS does not start. This is despite having both the Admin and Visitor accounts set to “always” start after login.
I have fiddled with this a lot but I cannot get it to work. “Fast startup” is off. I have tried many different settings under the JAWS Options > Basics > Automatically Start JAWS Settings screen, but nothing works.
Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone solved this?

I
can't figure out how that could be done! but probably this can
be done by one of those extensions that play sounds for
different things.., you should try them out.

Hi Richard, I have this problem as well running Jaws 2020 and Windows 10 Pro the in the latest version of the operating system. I had been using only Jaws at start but when I use Zoom Text as well Jaws started after signing in. This makes me think there is a problem at start up and the additional time required to start Zoom Text or Fusion allows for Jaws to start up properly.

Jason,
Well, if you're going to use Microsoft Word, then you need to know how to create real headings with it and not attempt visual headings with formatting. Word seems to be widely used to I thought Juan might already have access to it.
Where does one obtain Pandoc, how much does it cost, and does it have the ability to save documents created with it in ePub format? If it can't create ePub documents, how do you convert them from its format to ePub?
Alan Lemly
From: main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Jason White via Groups.Io
If you are writing original material and wish to generate EPUB documents, then Pandoc would be an effective and accessible tool. You can write the documents in Pandoc Markdown (or one of the other formats supported by Pandoc) and convert them to EPUB.
I wouldn’t recommend Microsoft Word as the format in which to write, unless you’re careful to use styles properly throughout the document. Many users of Microsoft Word, unfortunately, use direct formatting extensively, leading to poorly structured documents that are less accessible to screen reader users and not as good as they should be when converted to other formats. The obvious sign of this is the lack of heading styles – for example, a paragraph in “normal” style which is marked as centered, and with fonts that make it look as though it’s a heading.
From: <main@jfw.groups.io> on behalf of Alan Lemly <walemly@...>
Richard and Juan,
I was under the impression that Juan was composing original material which is why I suggested using Microsoft Word to do so and then using Codex to convert it to ePub. I just did a quick search of ePub documents on my computer and when I opened the context menu on one of those files and arrowed to Codex to check what conversion options were possible, Word 2007 was one of the choices. That would create a docx file from an ePub one.
Alan
From: main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Richard Turner
Are they already in ePub format?
If so, I’m not sure.
Alan had suggested using Codex which can convert Word to ePub, but it may also be able to convert ePub to Word, then do your edits and convert it back. Not sure if that would work, but might be worth a try.
Here is Alan’s message again: Juan,
I'd recommend you do your document editing and preparation with Microsoft Word and then use the excellent Codex program developed by James Scholes to convert it to ePub format. Codex can convert 18 different input formats including docx to 8 different output formats including ePub. You can read about it here:
