If I understand your question correctly, you could search for a paragraph
mark and replace it with two paragraph marks. Thus:
Control-h for search and replace.
Type ^p in the search field. ^ is shift-6.
Tab once to the replace field and type ^p^p
Press alt-a to replace all.

Hi,

I don’t know if there’s a driver, but I do know that I don’t want to use USB, because that would charge the unit, and the battery isn’t low.

What else can I try?

Thanks,

Jessica

Are you connecting over bluetooth?

Windows is notoriously bad with bluetooth.

Was there a driver that you installed for the Touch?

Did you try rebooting while the Touch is connected via USB?

well, what I did was;

1, start menu key takes you to the windows search edit,

type in options, you should find/see the Logitech app,  press enter,

now, wait a few seconds for the app to load, now you can activate the jaws touch cursor.

I was able to update this way.

a little clunky, but doable.

No, it cannot. Both Logitech software updates and any firmware updates to the keyboard and/or unifying receiver have to be done via the Logitecch Options software.

But it is not a lengthy process and even somebody with basic knowledge can help with it, as long as they know how to use a mouse and click the Update button it’s fine.

I guess you could always call Aira, even if takes more than 5 minutes, as long as you are a Jaws user this should fall within the parameters for their free help with Jaws related things which are not accessible. Even Microsoft Accessibility could and would probably do this.

You will most likely need help with that Logitech Options update.

You can simply open Logitech Options and the update notice should be there, I also had a firmware update for my keyboard and unifying receiver tonight and except for the title “Firmware Update” Jaws read nothing regardless whether I tried the Touch cursor, actually used my laptop’s touch screen or tried the new Jaws scan cursor which did kick in, but it didn’t read anything.

When my wife looked she said it said there was a firmware update and it had an ‘Update” button. She did it for me and all is well now, but you also may need sighted help.

Logitech makes great keyboards, but the accessibility of their software totally sucks.

Within the last day or so, whenever I turn on my computer, I get a Logitec pop-up that wants me to install an update of some kind.

However, within a few seconds from when Jaws reads the pop-up, the pop-up disappears, and I can’t seem to do anything to get it back.

I purchased a Logitec K780 bluetooth key-board a month or two ago, which is why I’m sure I’m getting the pop-up.

Has anyone else with Logitec keyboards experienced this issue?  If so, have you figured out a way to deal with this pop-up?

Definitely true in all Chromium-based browsers and others (definitely Firefox).   That being said, this does not cause any link to open in a separate browser window, but just a different tab.  As you've noted, CTRL+SHIFT+Enter opens that tab and throws your focus to it at the same time (and it opens immediately to the right of whatever tab you're currently using) while CTRL+Enter opens the tab in the same position, but doesn't throw focus to it.

I haven't used separate windows when web browsing since the advent of Tabbed browsing.  I find it much easier to switch tabs than to ALT+TAB through multiple windows, many of which are not my web browser when doing so.

This does work for me but another way, provided you do not have virtual ribbons enabled the following works.
1. Select and copy text as normal.
2. Now press alt, followed by e followed by s and you will again be in the paste special dialogue.

This will include all the options for unformatted text etc.

Using Jaws 2020 on windows 10 19.09 and Office Word subscription version.

It is probably in protected view. To get it out of protected view hit F6 and it will talk about being sure the document came from a trusted source. Tab one time and you should hear enable editing. Hit enter. If you want to keep the document go through the usual saving process.

A more permanent way to accomplish this is to go into Settings from the Edge menu. In my limited experience with this, it seems the best way to get to the On Startup settings is to search settings using the provided edit field, and type "start". Exit forms mode and hit H to navigate to the first heading, which is the On StartUp settings options. You have three radio buttons. The one I recommend is the third, allowing you to open a page or a set of pages. Once you select that radio button, you can put in a page you would like to have launched with Edge starts. That way, you will have only one page open until you choose to open others.

If you ever only want a single web page to be open just go to the address bar with Al + D or F4 and type in the address where you want to go.
This will replace the currently open page with the new one.

It seems that each time I open Edge each sites stays open, gotten to with control plus tab. I don't want that. I prefer one site, one window. Hope I'm being clear. How do I change this?

Automatic page refresh is not a browser option but something you set in Jaws quick settings, no matter if it’s IE, Chrome or Edge, just press Jaws Key + V, type “refresh” in the search field and disable it.

Is there a way to turn auto refresh in Microsoft Edge?  I can be on a site, and the page keeps refreshing every couple of seconds.

Thanks.

Hi,

The issue folks are talking about can be summarized in one way: UI Automation. The following is a bit geeky, so please bear with me:

By default, Edge 79 (beta and stable) enables native UI Automation implementation. This means in order to access content in Edge (Chromium-based, that is), solid UI Automation implementation must be agreed upon between web browser (UIA server) and screen readers (UIA clients). Unfortunately, according to one screen reader vendor, UI Automation in Edge 79 isn’t solid yet, so one screen reader is resorting to forcefully turning off UIA support in Edge (from screen reader point of view).

As for all sorts of announcements JAWS is making in Edge 79: this is caused by UI Automation notification event (introduced in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update). This event is used by apps to let screen readers announce essential messages. This is how Narrator can announce certain messages, and recent JAWS versions support this event.

For now the workaround (until Microsoft resolves this) is forcefully telling Edge 79 to not expose UI Automation to screen readers. This can be done by:

  1. From Edge 79, go to address omnibox and type “edge://flags” (without quotes and EXACTLY AS SHOWN).
  2. From experiments edit field, type “UI Automation” and press Tab.
  3. From Native UI Automation combo box, choose “disabled” and restart Edge if prompted.

I’ll publish more info on a dedicated Windows 10 forum for screen reader users (with updated info on screen readers and their responses) in a few moments.

Cheers,

Joseph

How do I change the settings in edge?  Microsoft help desk says you can’t.  You can just reset or repair it, you cannot turn on or off any settings. I just don’t want edge to ribbit on about things I really don’t need to know such as opening or closing navigations.

The new Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge has worked well with JAWS 2020 in my testing. It’s very similar to Chrome in terms of accessibility.

Becoming familiar with the web browser and its settings is essential these days since there are so many things to enable or disable. It's also good to have a few browsers at your disposal - for instance, Chrome, edge, and firefox - just in case a website doesn't play nice with one or the other.

It's been essential long before "these days."  Browsers have been vastly configurable for some time now.  What's really nice, though, is that many of them now have a search feature for their settings, not unlike Windows 10 does for system settings.  I generally find it a lot easier to locate what I want with a search, or several searches using different, but related, keywords than to brute force drill down through page after page or tab after tab of settings.  There has also been a tendency to move things around over time, so if you remember what setting it is you want to tweak it's much easier to locate with a search if it's been moved.

Any given tool, including screen readers, occasionally won't "play well" with some given thing when another tool of the same class will.  Having several options, even if you're not 100% fluent with the second and third ones, often makes the difference between success and failure for getting at certain information (and that includes for those of us who are not using screen readers, too).

When this happens to me, I need to unload and reload JAWS. Have you done that?

vertical list box, arrow down to "Unformatted Unicode Text", which
for me is at the bottom. Press enter. Wait for a good 10-20
seconds, since larger files take a while to process. You will end up
with a very clean text-only format. Good luck!
