I must be missing something or late to the dance. I can't stand Edge with all of its prompts. "Opening ... closing ..." It drives me crazy. It is like someone telling you all the time, "starting street crossing, stopping street crossing, coming to ... leaving ..." I don't need or want all that information told to me. Just tell me you are opening the web page or dialog box.

I disabled the UI autimations in the flags settings of Edge. It seems to be working a little better. I would also highly recommend that you turn off autofilling of your user names and passwords. Maybe it's a personal preference for me, but it seems to work better when this information is not be remembered by the browser.

Hi All

After many installations and uninstallations, I now seem to have an accessible copy of edge on my computer. For some reason one of the versions I’d downloaded seemed to be in Japanese.

Anyway, thanks to those who have commented on my previous email. All is ok now.

Hi, just downloaded it. Works quite well. But where are the file locations in programs for favorites, so then I can then copy and paste to my favorites, did not import my favorites, same for google chrome, internet explorer and firefox. Where are they stored. So I can then copy and paste my favorites links which have a folder on the desktop.

Thanks.

I have been using the beta for months and it is just as good as chrome if not better. Hopefully it doesn't track as much of our online activity as Google Chrome. I know it is Microsoft but one can wish.

I could imagine the function keys being changed by an accidental key combination, this happens on some keyboards.  The other keys, though, I've never heard of being effected by such a thing.  I'd probably hunt down a manual for the keyboard before i gave up.

moderated OT: Real ID documentation requirements

I promise I will not post about this again, but since I've opened the proverbial "can of worms" and it's clear that many are interested, I thought I'd follow up with a dedicated topic.  I know that the main focus of the group is discussing JAWS.

The legislation that created the Real ID requirement is federal, so the documentation options really don't vary from state to state.  It appears that California has a Real ID document selection sequence of pages that do not require you to be logged in to any account here:  https://realid.dmv.ca.gov/your-real-id-checklist/

I started went through it and, at the end, it gives you the list of things you need to collect and bring with you based on what you indicated you had available when filling out the checklist.  The one and only discrepancy with the requirements that Virginia has is that Virginia will not accept a mobile phone bill, only a landline phone bill, for proof of residency.  California will accept a mobile phone bill indicating your home address.

I hope that folks who need to get a Real ID identification card will find this online checklist useful, even if they don't live in California.  If you can find one in your own state's DMV website, definitely use it instead.

Strangely enough, this transaction was the easy one.  Virginia (and I'd presume all states) has a special set of webpages at the DMV site to guide you through what you must bring in order to get a Real ID license/identification card.  Since the possible combinations can be head spinning, you can pick from "the menu" at each step and it then takes that into account when you go to the next item you might need.  At the end, it gives you the list of the items you've said you have that, taken as a collection, will qualify you for Real ID.  I took 'em along and it was no problem.

Now, getting the Virginia title for my car, which was purchased in Kentucky and is a rebuilt vehicle, required me to send all the paperwork including the Kentucky title and bill of sale to Richmond for processing.  They couldn't issue the title at the local DMV office.  And you can't get plates without a title so I will have another trip to the DMV office once I receive the title itself.

I'll try to take a look at that Chrome extension, about which I'd been unaware until this topic mentioned it.

Hi all,

I'm working with a student who has a fairly new HP laptop running
Windows 10, not sure exactly what edition of Windows. He is running
Jaws 2018, and yesterday Jaws quit speaking. I wasn't there when
this happened, but talked to him on the phone afterward. We could
not get Jaws to speak, so I had him turn Narrator on, and we quickly
discovered that the issue seemed to be the Eloquence speech
synthesizer. We went into the Voice settings and changed the
synthesizer from Eloquence to SAPI 5, 64 bit, and Jaws immediately
began speaking. I had the student try to go back and change the
synthesizer back to Eloquence, but it doesn't seem to be available
in the list of synthesizers.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any ideas how to get
the Eloquence synthesizer back working?

Thanks all,

Russell
