Re: Accessible English-Spanish translation program?
Tim Ford
I went through the Google disability help web site, and found a link to have a phone call. I filled it out, and the technician called me in just a minute or so. Worked well, and he is researching the best way to navigate the translation service with JAWS. I was able to do it successfully by just playing around, but it is a bit awkward. But, it works.

In your situation I would run the jaws 18 install again and select repair in the first instance and if that does not work go the uninstall and install route assuming your student still has activation details to hand.

We could not get Jaws to speak, so I had him turn Narrator on, and we quickly discovered that the issue seemed to be the Eloquence speech synthesizer. We went into the Voice settings and changed the synthesizer from Eloquence to SAPI 5, 64 bit, and Jaws immediately began speaking. I had the student try to go back and change the synthesizer back to Eloquence, but it doesn't seem to be available in the list of synthesizers. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any ideas how to get the Eloquence synthesizer back working? Thanks all, Russell

Hello All,
I went to the Google Translate web site, but I am not sure how to operate it. Does Google have a live-person desk I can call for a bit of initial training? Or, is there a nice tutorial somewhere?

the next thing is to press both keys i.e., ctrl or alt keys several times at the same time rapidly and I find that clears the problem for me when it happens.

I’ve noticed recently that my jaws speech stutters.
Is this normal?
How can I fix it?

Hi Alison!
Here are a couple of additional things to consider. One, sometimes there can be some sort of setting within the JAWS Keyboard Manager (under JAWS Utilities) that can cause this problem. Maybe setting it back to its defaults should be tried. I do not know exactly how to do this, but I know it can be done pretty easily! Another idea is to take a look at any weird, inadvertent keyboard settings that you may have set in your computer itself. Sometimes, these are called “hot keys.” Sometimes, they are found wherever you might re-define function key operations. In Windows 7, you could find the right place under Control Panel. For Windows 10, I am not sure where to look since I myself am new to it.

My personal opinion for what it is worth, I do not think that your problem has anything to do with the Sticky Key function. In order for the Sticky Key function to be activated using the keyboard, either the left or right shift key needs to be tapped rapidly 5 times in succession.

Hello Alison:
fsince I wrote my response to your email, for no
apparent reason, when I pressed the ESC key to get out of an email message, JAWS
said "Invisible Cursor". I unloaded and restarted JAWS and the problem went away
because, when I pressed the ESC key, I was able to get out of the email message.
I will not say that this solution will solve your problem, but, it is worth a
try.
