When I talked with FS about this, the suggestion was to copy into Notepad
instead of Word, so the table formatting isn't shone.

I'm helping an elderly friend who receives a lot of interesting

When reading, Jaws announces the Table with so many rows and columns.
Is it possible to turn that off so it just reads the text?
Thanks,

The problem now seems to have been fixed after changing all tables to data tables in the default settings section.

Tom,

You have to be very specific in how you search for this item, as follows:

Open an email message in Outlook and place focus in it. The “Layout table” item won’t appear otherwise.

Press JAWS key+v.

An edit field appears.

Type the six letters t a b l e s.

Now press enter.

Arrow down until JAWS verbalizes “Layout table, ignore.”

Once there, press the spacebar to cycle between checked or unchecked. You want the item checked.

I hope it makes a difference on your system. Sadly, it hasn’t on mine.

First off verify that you have "layout" tables ignored  in your JAWS quick settings.  Also, there is aa Outlook function to "View in Browser", this used to be in the ribbon, but it seems to be hidden these days, and if activated warns you that the Browser is has a different security configuration from Outlook. You can add it into the Quick Access Bar if you think it would be useful.

Hopefully one of these will help,

Richard,

When in Microsoft Word press insert+V for the JAWS Quick Settings dialog.

Down arrow to Tables and you should find three options. You can disable any of these, including table detection.

Generally yes I would agree. There is a site I use from time to time for more technical stuff, but on a whole, Google Translate is probably the answer.

On a side note, I actually just finished installing the Google translate extension on my laptop with Chrome and one thing I noticed when running the extension for a word I was trying to get the translation for, was that the buttons seem to be unlabeled. I tried turning off the virtual cursor and tabbing around since sometimes I can get the description that way, but nope. Jaws just says button.

I don’t know if you can lend your eyes and take a peak Brian and maybe give a quick hand? To be clear this isn’t in regards to the Google Translate site, but rather the extension itself.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Hi,
I should add here that if that i7 processor is less than $100 extra, by all means go for it. But any more than that and it's a pure waste. But based on your use case scenario it's not going to give you a noticeable difference in performance either way.
Take a look at notebookcheck, especially the models they review with both i5 and i7 processors. The i5's usually score better in batterylife and cooling, and in very few cases can even perform faster than the i7's that, on paper, look the part of outperforming them.
My previous surface book was a prime example.

Hi,
<rant time>
The difference between that i5 and a faster processor in 2019-2020 is minimal at best - we're talking literally 100 to 200 MHZ and absolutely 0 percent in real world performance - might as well call it 1 mhz per dollar. You will however add yourself a nice chunk of batterylife when getting that i5, as well as just a little less heat. Gone are the days when an i7 was 20-30% faster on a laptop of this size. Jaws won't care that your computer is running at 3.8 ghz rather than 4 ghz, and neither will anything else. And at the end of the day, that i5 may actually run better - i7's of this generation are notoriously bad for thermal throttling when working hard.
Put that money elsewhere - perhaps towards a 1 tb SSD or 16 gb of ram instead of 8. <end rant>

moderated Accessible English-Spanish translation program?

Tim Ford

Hello All,

I have a friend whose English is very limited, and my Spanish is worse. Is there any easy and accessible program, web page, whatever, that we can use to communicate by typing back and forth on my computer?

Sincerely,
Tim Ford

It looks under powered with not enough RAM. Spend the extra money for
a faster processor with at least 16 GB of memory. You will be happy
you did. The question should not be what I minimally need but what
could I optimally benefit from?

Hi,

This looks fine.

If you can at all afford it, I would recommend making that 2 x 8 gb
ram, especially if you plan on keeping the machine for years to come.

Hi all, I am thinking of getting this computer. I will be using it

use for my internet radio show. Does this look good enough for this?
I would appreciate your comments. Thanks, Jim
