Re: Having Jaws read part of a screen in a specific color
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
I don’t think skim reading is the answer, but here is a more detailed explanation of what the program does.
I have an html document open, I hit a hotkey, f6 in this case, and it shows the resulting errors in a window toward the bottom of the screen. That text is in Black on Honeydew.
Is there a way to set a hotkey to read only text in that color combo on the screen, that will still allow me to do the normal editing in the areas needing fixing?
Or, to set a window around that portion of the screen when I can get sighted help to do that?
I could have done this in my sleep with Window-eyes, but since I am committed to do this with Jaws, I could use some help.
Like Leo had said in a previous question, if someone knows and could explain it as if they were explaining it to a 7-year old, that would be appreciated. Thanks,

Having Jaws read part of a screen in a specific color
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
Hello all, I have a program, CSS HTML Validator, that shows errors in the font colors, black on honeydew.
Is there a way to set up a hotkey that I could press and just hear the section of the screen that is Black on Honeydew, but could still read the rest normally?
I used to do this with Window-eyes quite easily, but cannot wrap my head around how to do this with Jaws.
I think it shows it in a section on the lower portion of the screen.
Thanks,
Richard

Re: How does speech and sound scheme really work?
Leo
Hi Mike and fellows, I finally did it, and now I have jaws reading quoted text and
text with attribute using a different voice. Well, at first I
wanted jaws to play sounds but after I understood how to do it and
tested it, I decided on keeping those other voices. Before asking
you, I Had fallen in a little pitfall, which was not other but
trying to set all the actions for all the attributes at once. In
other words, when I had to choose which one attribute I wanted to
modify, I chose underline, bold, and italic all at once, and for
this reason it didn't work. So, if anyone is interested in going
over this feature, this is a good piece of information to take
into account. A couple of things, the alias and the synth you're
currently using have to be taken into account as well. Note that
for every synth you have to modify different alias for different
attributes. In fact, it sounds more logic for me to do this first,
and then edit a new scheme because when you get to the part where
you have to choose the alias, you will already have the customized
alias that you previously modified. Thanks guys again, and aside from the links you shared with me, you can go through this other which clarified even more the information for me.

Hi, yes, it's a temporary change, as some other jaws settings, this directly affects the application you're working on. It's useful for web browsers or Microsoft word. I finally carried out what I wanted and I finally have different voices reading quoted text and text with specific attribute.

In Word 2016 from the Office 365 subscription, when I hit f7 the first thing that pops up is a button that says Editor overview, review all results and it gives a number so I know how many errors there are. Then, if I hit spacebar on that button, the first error is shown. If I tab, I still hear the suggestions but instead of being in a list that I would arrow through I can tab to each one. After all the suggestions there is the usual ignore once, ignore all, and add to dictionary.

Reduced Price I was interested in this but when I followed the link and found the pricing page I found different information which seems to indicate that there has been no price reduction or possibly that the price reduction has expired. I copy the relevant bit from the webpage as of a couple of minutes ago. • Leasey Total Package: £75 (approximately 100 American Dollars), includes menus and help spoken by Leasey together with full Getting Started DAISY Talking Book for computer beginners. • LeaseyAdvanced, £50 (approximately 66 American Dollars). Contains access to all of Leasey’s tools, utilities and services, but Leasey will not speak using her own voice. The DAISY Getting Started guide is also not part of this package.

Hello. I sent the following message to the mailing list for the Philadelphia Computer Users Group for the Blind and Visually Impaired, which I moderate, and wanted to send it here, as well.
From now until December 27 Hartgen Consultancy is offering Leasey Total for 50 British pounds, which is around $67 U.S. dollars. It is very difficult to concisely summarize what this program does as it's a Swiss army knife filled with tons of tools and utilities. Leasey Total comes with two modules, Leasey Basic and Leasey Advanced. Leasey Basic is for users who might consider themselves to be extreme novices, very new to computers or perhaps users who just want a systematic, predictable way of accessing the main programs on their computer. Instead of dealing with the Windows start menu or the desktop there is a dedicated menu known as the Leasey menu, which is read by a human voice. This menu includes items such as Surf the Internet, Write a Document or Letter, Check Your Email, Listen to the Radio, etc. It also offers context sensitive help, using the same human speech which is offered in the menus. Leasey Basic might also be helpful for users with cognitive difficulties. It also comes with a training tutorial covering the basic features and is honestly one of the best training tutorials I have heard in quite some time.
Leasey Advanced dispenses with the simplified menus and returns your computer to its normal state with the start menu and desktop. It offers a ton of additional features. Features that I personally like are: Leasey Texts. This is a bit like the text expansion feature found in Word except that you can use it globally. You can create a list of shortcuts which can type in a pre-written piece of text, such as a shopping list, signature to a letter, etc. You can also assign an abbreviation to a Leasey text, such as typing the letters sig to type a signature. Leasey clips allow you to save up to twelve pieces of text to areas not unlike the clipboard. Each clip can be recalled, pasted anywhere and they are available even with a computer restart. Leasey Clock includes an alarm, countdown timer, stopwatch and even some very nice Westminster chimes. Leasey Radio offers a built-in radio tuner, available anywhere. It offers so much more but those are just a few of its features. Leasey Central offers far more detailed information about this software. I know I've mentioned this program quite a bit in the past year. For the record I am not affiliated with Hartgen Consultancy. Brian Hartgen and I are nothing more than professionals in this industry. We have never met, never worked with one another and I get absolutely no commission from any sales which my messages might generate. I just feel that he's made some positive and unique contributions in this space which are very beneficial to users of JAWS and I just want to let everyone know about what he offers.
