Hi, everyone.

Tom, thanks for sharing your find. I had desperately wanted to shut off table cell coordinates, because I think screen readers can be too informative at times. A Window-Eyes user for years and years, I was able to use the table header row hot key, Control-Shift-H, to choose whichever option most effectively gave me table information.

I changed the subject line in reply because I want to know, does anyone know a JAWS keystroke combination that allows a user to rotor between table header options the way Window-Eyes does?

Thank you for your help,
Lou N.

Problem is now solved.

A friend suggested to go into quick settings of the browser, go to tables and check if cell co-ordinates was turned on. Somehow the recent update had turned the setting off and turning it on solved the problem.

Hi George,

I need the row number to be spoken by Jaws when arrowing slowly up the table column. If arrowing up at a normal speed then Jaws skips the row announcement and just reads the cell contents which is the desired result.

Currently, using the Jaws 2020 version released in the past week, Jaws does not announce any row number regardless of the arrowing speed. The row announcement was spoken under the final 2019 version as well as the 2020 version released in late October. I made the settings in the just released version the same as the settings in the 2019 version but this had no effect. That is, after making sure the settings relating to “default application” and saved with shift control d.

After trying numerous settings, I have come to the conclusion that a bug has crept into the latest 2020 Jaws update.

I’ll contact F S and make a report early in the new year.

Cheers

Tom

Thanks for your reply and instructions George.

I have tried all of the steps on numerous occasions but still cannot get Jaws to read the row position in a table while using the latest version released only a few days ago.

However, if I change to the final copy of Jaws 19 then the row number is spoken as normal. It appears to me that something has been broken in the latest 2020 version.

Go to system settings with jaws key plus 6 on the number row

Tabe once and you hear users

Arrow once and you hear Web / HTML / PDFs

Arrow right once and you hear the same as above with open on the end

Arrow down to you hear tables and right arrow

Arrow down to you hear \\Tables\Web / HTML / PDFs \Table Presentation Information and then then press space bar and it changes to for all tables

Now quit the system settings and it will ask you if you wish to save the changes and choose yes and that should do it

Hi,

Prior to installing the latest Jaws 64 bit update a few days ago, Jaws would read the row position in a web based table as I arrowed up the column but since the update, Jaws no longer gives this information.

Can someone inform me which settings need to be changed so once more Jaws can give this info?

Thanks

moderated disabling navigation hotkeys

William Windels

Hello,

I use jira in the cloud on my work and this application has some nice hotkeys.

Most of them conflicts with jaws and I can disable all singel letter navigations in jaws with insert+f2 and then “navigation hotkeys”.

However, there are also some hotkays with signs like :

, comma / slash | vertical line \ backslash.

(I wrote the signs as sign and as word)

It seems I can’t disable none of them.

e.g. I can’t find the / to go with jaws to next clickable item by pressing insert+3 (pass key trough) and then / but this is a longer way.

Can I also disable this?

Kind regards and thx in advance

That’s because after you update JAWS, the installer you have is no longer the current version. So when you run the install, it wants to bring you back to the version you had before the update. Translation: this is expected behaviour, though I’d prefer it if the installer just bailed out and told you you’re trying to install an older version than what you already have, like some programs do.

Just use shift plus an arrow key then do the application key or shift-f10 and up arrow and you will get into the options for the photo stuff.

The alt-text is a separate item if that is all you want to do in that menu.

Subject: Resources list

HI all,

We discussed a resources list last month, I've been working on a site for a client recently and have added this page to their site. It can be found at: https://rogercusson.com/resources/. I'm still updating the list, so as many URL's as I've been able to find as of now are loaded.
I've also removed the categories listing as I didn't find it necessary.
I will be reorganizing the list to have all apps "included with windows"
in the same section, most likely at the bottom of the list as they won't have URL's. I look forward to updating this list as more resources are approved by the group.

If I missed anything, or anyone wants to add to the other lists on the page, please do let me know, I'll gladly update!

Thanks,

Sarah

Thanks,

Sarah

Hi.

I don't know how many of these links will actually work but here's a
capture of the Jaws-users.com site from the Internet Archive.

Dear Sarah
Thanks for taking this initiative.
I have been quietly adding programs to the list based on people's
suggestions and the list is now quite expanded, especially in the utilities
category. I was going to post this expanded list to the list anyway in a
few days but you have prompted me to post it earlier.
As a start I have included some but definitely not all download links in the
below list already.
Many of the free and trial programs are available from the excellent
Screenreader Accessible Page at https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fninite.com%2Faccessible&data=02%7C01%7C%7C46cea10935374913fa4708d782ae3005%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637121556945329038&sdata=hf9xGiIhKyXGuSjuqMHn0b%2FCgeAItpNsrO5DErSQ51Y%3D&reserved=0 Where this is
the case I have included the nimite link for convenience. Other download
links are also included if known at the time of writing.
So this is the complete expanded latest list as of today. I anticipate that
it will expand more.

Subject: Resources list

HI all,

We discussed a resources list last month, I've been working on a site for a
client recently and have added this page to their site. It can be found at:
https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Frogercusson.com%2Fresources%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C46cea10935374913fa4708d782ae3005%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637121556945389098&sdata=kPXWzJkOTUme68155gSvYyP1KdXNpBjfBAw%2FFvl1xZk%3D&reserved=0. I'm still updating the list, so as many
URL's as I've been able to find as of now are loaded.
I've also removed the categories listing as I didn't find it necessary.
I will be reorganizing the list to have all apps "included with windows"
in the same section, most likely at the bottom of the list as they won't
have URL's. I look forward to updating this list as more resources are
approved by the group.

If I missed anything, or anyone wants to add to the other lists on the page,
please do let me know, I'll gladly update!

Thanks,

Sarah

Just use shift plus an arrow key then do the application key or shift-f10 and up arrow and you will get into the options for the photo stuff.
The alt-text is a separate item if that is all you want to do in that menu.

Hello,

I am trying to add alt text to images in MSWord 2016 using JFW2018 and 2019, but I am not getting the format/alt options. Here are the steps I am following:

1. Select an image
2. Write click using tab+9 or shift+F10
3. This is where I am supposed to get format picture option in which the second tab would be for alt text, but using JFW I am not getting that option for format picture at all.

I have tried to insert alt text on two Windows-running PCs in MSWord2016, one with JFW2018 and the other JFW2019.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi. Open the folder where you installed the executable to install Jaws. Press the enter key. Follow the prompts as if you were going to install Jaws. Since Jaws is already installed on your computer, you will be presented with a dialog to run a Jaws repair. Run the repair and follow the prompts. I hope I helped you out.

Hi Sieghard,

I upgraded to the latest Microsoft edge Dev version and all is
reading just fine with in the edit fields.

Thanks for your thoughts, I was thinking I may have just change some
setting some place and broke something.

If it's a deal-breaker for you, you would have to switch to Google Chrome
until this is addressed by either Microsoft or Vispero, I mostly use Google
Chrome and don't have this problem.
