You do and it is of course not free. I believe it is something like $100 a year.
You can get Office 365 for less than that for personal use and in addition to giving you a license for the full Office suite the subscription also includes 1 Tb of OneDrive storage which is what you get with Dropbox if you pay.
OneDrive works much like Dropbox and since I have the Office 365 subscription I certainly don't see any need to pay Dropbox as well. I still have my free account with I think 11 or 12Gb of storage, but only use it from time to time.

Moderated Re: does a person have to have 2 dropbox accounts?

David,

No, you don't have to have separate Dropbox accounts for different devices. That would sort of defeat the convenience of Dropbox. I have one Dropbox account which gives me access on my iPhone 8 to all the files in my Dropbox folders on my computer. That was the reason I got Dropbox to begin with. Apple's closed file system made the sharing of files between computer and iPhone all but impossible and Dropbox was the primary app at the time that worked with most other apps and Windows so I could share files. I've never regretted using it.

Glad you liked my method and instruction. As you can see from that answer, there is more than one way to accomplish the same thing in Windows. The other answer you received is equally as good and works equally as well. It gets you to the same dialog-like display, just via a different path.

To display the icons in the system tray, press JAWS Key plus F11. Of course, in order to read something, it has to be there. Some programs, while having a presence in the system tray, don't appear because their icons are hidden. Here's how to show or hide them.

1. Open Windows Settings by pressing the Windows Key plus I.

2. Type icon and pres the Down Arrow key until you hear "Themes and Related Settings."

3. Tab to the list box and use the Down Arrow until you hear "Task bar notification area," then press ENTER.

4. Press TAB until you hear "Select which icons appear on the task bar," and press ENTER.

5. You are now in a dialog-like view that shows a button for every running program that can put an icon in the system tray. Note, I don't mean the task bar, where programs whose windows are minimized will appear normally, or programs that have been specifically pinned to the task bar.

6. For each program, decide if you want its icon to be present or absent from the system tray, and change the setting by tapping the space bar as is appropriate to your needs. ON means it shows, OFF means it does not show.

7. You can go around this display by pressing the TAB key and make changes as many times as you want to. When you're done, press Alt plus F4 to close the window and prevent further changes.

8. Test your changes. Open the system tray by pressing the JAWS Key plus F11, and move through the visible icons with the Up and/or Down Arrow keys. If you don't like what you find, press the ESCAPE key, then go back to Step 1.

Hope this helps.

I'm nopt even sure it's a Windows problem. I've had phantoms in the system tray that those with sight say they can't see. I wonder if simply restarting JAWS would clear those phantoms.

In a web page

Go to system settings with jaws key plus 6 on the number row

Tabe once and you hear users

Arrow once and you hear Web / HTML / PDFs

Arrow right once and you hear the same as above with open on the end

Arrow down to you hear tables and right arrow

Arrow down to you hear \\Tables\Web / HTML / PDFs \Table Presentation Information and then then press space bar and it changes to for all tables

Now quit the system settings and it will ask you if you wish to save the changes and choose yes and that should do it

Hi Netbat,

maybe Dropbox switched to the new design by accident. Try tabbing a few
times till you land on the settings icon. Press the space bar. There should
be some checkboxes talking about starting the dropbox app, which you need to
uncheck. Then there will be a combo box about opening folders. Set that to
file explorer, and you should be good to go now. Tab to OK and press enter
on that.
All your folders should now open using explorer, rather than the somewhat
cumbersame new design.

Good luck,

i just looked in dropbox on line because some google searches suggested that there is accessibility settings in the privacy settings somewhere but all i have found is the privacy terms and conditions.
i'm useing the desktop dropbox folder with windows 7
and in the public folder it has these options that can't be erased.
new folder view
new folder
new paper doc
new paper templet
new google docs file
new google slides file
new google sheets file
new shortcut
owner (my account name)
sharing settings

it still has the public folder. and until yesterday when i tried to paste a file into it jaws or n v d a didn't say if the file was pasted there or not.
i also found out today that when nothing is speaking i have to open the dropdown menu and close it again because the jaws focus is somewhere else. a screen redraw didn't do anything.

I have never found any accessibility setting for DropBox but frankly have never needed one.

When you make reference to "all the Google crap" it makes me think that you are dealing with DropBox on the web rather than with your DropBox on your computer. I cannot imagine why you would be getting references about google when working with your DropBox folder on your PC.

If this is what you are doing I strongly recommend that you stop this method and use DropBox on your PC.

If you have not already installed the Desktop DropBox for Windows you should do this immediately as it will make life far easier as you will be dealing with, for all intents and purposes, normal windows folders. You can download DropBox for windows from the DropBox website or alternatively www.ninite.com.

In addition once you have DropBox for Windows installed there is no longer a need for a "Public Folder".
Nowadays all of your DropBox files on your computer can be made available via DropBox sharing links unlike in previous incarnations where you had to specify a special "Public" folder for this purpose.
Simply bring up the context menu on any file in your DropBox - again remember not on the website but on your computer, and this will enable you to "Copy DropBox link to clipboard".
Alternatively you could set up a shared folder with another DropBox user by following a share DropBox folder option again on the context menu and again on your windows DropBox sub folder and not initially at least on the website, although you will be redirected to the website as part of the share folder wizard.

Therefore in terms of accessibility, after installing DropBox on your PC, your DropBox folder should appear as a normal File Explorer Window as in any other folder. There should be no difference in accessibility between your local mirror of your DropBox and any other Windows File Explorer window.
Specifically the DropBox folder is I think by default under Users and then Documents on the C drive of your computer but as I have moved my own DropBox folder to a bigger D drive I cannot check for you.

Hope that helps.
