Re: Entering data in an Excel form
Van Lant, Robin
I learned another related approach on a JAWS webinar. I think it was to “define name” of a cell, then you can go directly to it with Control G. I set this up for a large spreadsheet where I needed to quickly jump to a particular column.

There is a way to protect cells. What that will do, is only allow you to go from one input cell to another. I will have to brush up on how to do it and get back to you. However, a Google search for protecting cells would lead you in the right direction. I hope this helps you.

Re: Adding alt text in MSWord2016
When I have an image/picture selected in MS Word 2016, hitting SHIFT+F10,A opens up the Alt text dialog (for lack of a better term, it's now shown in a column to the right of the document itself, not a free floating dialog box) and places me in the edit box for the Alt Text for that image.
Hitting ESC after I've completed whatever text I want throws focus back into the document, but does not close that dialog. But its presence really doesn't matter, as it's not showing anything unless you happen to have a picture selected. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. ~ Joshua Liebman

Yes, if you select the picture with shift+arrow whichever direction you are going, then do the applications key, shift+f10, etc., the format picture option is right there. And, as you said, the alt-text item is above that item if you just arrow up or hit the letter a. However, how do you then save the alt-text? I found myself in no-man's-land. There was a mark as decorative check box and a "yes I'll help button". If you type in your alt-text, what next? Thanks, Richard 🖖 Live long and prosper Check out my web site at: www.turner42.com

Re: Excel duplicate values with jaws 2019

hi, Thanks for your reply! yes i did search that query over google and went through different articles telling how to create conditional formatting for duplicate values in Excel, but unfortunately these functions only highlight the duplicate values, which never readable with jaws. i.e. if i enter "123" twice in any column, excel conditional formatting function will highlight that duplicate cell but jaws never tells me if that cell is highlighted or not. I hope you got my point!

Re: Entering data in an Excel form
Norma A. Boge
Hi guys,
Let me clarify my initial post: I am able to edit the spreadsheet, no problems there. MS calls it a template, but it has a spreadsheet extension, XLS. Kinda confusing. Here’s my question: If I insert text into A3, isn’t there a keystroke to jump to the next cell that needs to be filled in? Something similar to tabbing to the next edit box in an online form? I can edit and add and remove cell titles, etc. as I see fit. After that, I have the order form for my business. When it’s time for me to take the customer’s information and fill out the order form, how do I move through the form fields? If this is still confusing, I’m ok with that. I’m probably using the incorrect verbiage to make my explanation clear. I have other options by which to save the information. Using a “template” seemed easy. Not so much, but I’m learning. <smile> Thanks, Norma

Greetings,
I’m using Jaws 2020 with Office 365. I downloaded an invoice template, but I can’t figure out how to complete the form. I think I should be able to enter data in the first field then go directly to the next field, enter data, and so on. Right now tabbing gets me to every cell, most of which are blank. I guess what I need is how to go into forms mode in Excel. I’m sure my answer is out there somewhere, so thanks in advance!

While this wouldn’t be the proper listserv on which to post this, given
that it was the result of an inaccessibility issue with JAWS, I am posting here
in case one of you have had to deal with this and can be of help.
Last night, I attempted to change my Windows 10 password. The field was
inaccessible and JAWS was not reading it correctly. In hindsight I should have
just walked-away, but I proceeded to change the password. After turning the
computer on today, the password I thought I created has not been working.
Essentially, I am locked-out of my computer.
Any tips, ideas please to recover from this without having to format my
drives with tons of data on there?
Thanks a bunch!

Chrome This has also been driving me mad for months now, Brave does the same thing as it is based on Chrome. In the end the solution I found is not to use chrome to download anything unless it is tiny.. For download only I return to the old trusty Internet explorer – just type I after pressing windows key and it will probably come up but keep on typing if it does not. Press control O and paste in the download link. In IE you will probably have to press F6 to go to the notification bar to confirm whether you want to open or save the download. After this however if you alt tab away from IE you will not be, unlike the annoying Chrome announcements, me bothered by the download status. Alt tabbing back into IE will resume the download status announcements or you can press control J to check on the progress of your download. David Griffith

Hi,
Is there any way to get Chrome to stop announcing a download in progress and its time remaining every minute or so? It's very annoying for a longer download. I've gone in to Chrome settings, and blocked all notifications, but this has no effect.
Thanks,

Re: Jaws 2020

Here is an answer from MS for Windows and Multi core CPU's. From Microsoft -
Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs, but the number
of logical processors or cores varies based on the processor
architecture. A maximum of 32 cores is supported in 32-bit
versions of Windows 8, whereas up to 256 cores are supported in
the 64-bit versions.
Can it use them? Absolutely. Will the average person take advantage of this much CPU power? Not likely.
Not at all. While games do require some CPU horsepower, GPU power is often king in gaming. I doubt any game would come close to using this much CPU (unless there was a bug) anytime in the near future. These types of CPU are more for data analytics and number crunching, not for a home consumer. One could make the argument that "more" is better, there are diminishing returns in standard use environments. There definitely are some applications that can take advantage of such a high number of cores. Video editing, 3D modeling, etc. However, that level of CPU power is not used by the average user. 12/10/2019 1:58 PM, Randy Barnett via Groups.Io wrote:

There are very few programs that actually use more than one core. This is another bit of hype from Intel. with that said AMD has and has had multi core processors for a long time. If you have programs that explicitly say they use multi core code then that is when it really matters. Actually I don't know if you can even buy a single core CPU anymore. from Google: Single-core
processors have more or less been
phased-out in favor of multi-core processors since
the early 2010s for the mobile, desktop, and server markets. Single-core
processors can still be
found in various low-power, embedded, and special-purpose
applications and devices.Sep
