Here is an answer from MS for Windows and Multi core CPU's.

From Microsoft - Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs, but the number of logical processors or cores varies based on the processor architecture. A maximum of 32 cores is supported in 32-bit versions of Windows 8, whereas up to 256 cores are supported in the 64-bit versions.

Can it use them? Absolutely. Will the average person take advantage of this much CPU power? Not likely.

These types of processors seem to be aimed at the gaming market

Not at all. While games do require some CPU horsepower, GPU power is often king in gaming. I doubt any game would come close to using this much CPU (unless there was a bug) anytime in the near future.

These types of CPU are more for data analytics and number crunching, not for a home consumer. One could make the argument that "more" is better, there are diminishing returns in standard use environments.

There definitely are some applications that can take advantage of such a high number of cores. Video editing, 3D modeling, etc. However, that level of CPU power is not used by the average user.

Nothing new here. you can dew all of the things mentioned already with a e-mail client. IMAP syncs everything across all your devices and you can still use the web portal when you don't have access to your e-mail client. So I don't really get the point other than getting people to use Google directly so Google can track you more efficiently.

Three Reasons to Use Google’s Webmail Option with JAWS

Gmail is a widely-used email service that is used at home,
work, and school. While it can be accessed through a desktop email application
such as Microsoft Outlook, its webmail option provides more versatility.

Google’s webmail option provides Gmail users a flexible
alternative for accessing email from computers and mobile devices. A web
browser and Internet connection are all you need to begin sending and receiving
messages.

When you access Gmail through this form of internet-based
email, messages are stored on a web server, rather than on your computer or
device. This frees up disk space and memory for other important files. Here are
three reasons to consider choosing Google’s webmail option when accessing Gmail
with JAWS.

Access Your Email from Anywhere

When using Google’s webmail option, you can access messages
from anywhere on any computer or mobile device. This is especially convenient
if you travel frequently or need to access email between appointments. Because
your email is all on the cloud, you can also search for and respond to messages
quickly and efficiently without accessing a dedicated computer or software.

No Additional Software Is Required

Webmail doesn’t require the installation of dedicated
software. Simply open your web browser, go to Gmail, and your messages will be
displayed.

Access Your Email Using Familiar JAWS and Web Page Navigation Commands

Since Google’s webmail is displayed in your web browser, you
can use JAWS Quick Nav keys and other navigation keystrokes when working with
messages. These familiar commands make learning easier.

No the same behaviour happens whether you are using Jaws, NVDA or Narrator and it has driven me and others insane after Chrome introduced this earlier in the year.

However thanks to the addon that George found and posted to the list today Chrome and Brave is now blissfully silent whilst it is downloading large files.

Isn’t it more a function of the screenreader which reads out the intermittent downloads status announcements?

I just tried a relatively large download, SQL Express which in it’s largest version is 1.1 Gb, but I have a fiber connection so even that only took 35 or 40 seconds and all I got at the end was that the download was complete.

I personally much prefer Chrome and the download manager it has and this might be a case where you could ask Google Accessibility for help.

Pamela, I am pretty sure I also see you on the Viphone list so if you have an iPhone and if you have the Be My Eyes app installed, you can actually call Google Accessibility and since it is Be My Eyes, this is a video call and you could even have a download ready to start and show them.

It used to be that Duxbury would prompt to install the scripts when you load it.
He may need to contact Duxbury support if that isn't happening.
I have the goldwave scripts and can send them as an email attachment when I get home later today.
Since the list won't accept them, I can send them to you directly.

I am not aware of a general website for JFW scripts. There is Doug Lee's
website, https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=www.dlee.org&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7991a294d7a641654a8208d77dac3d5d%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637116051023874374&sdata=N870Ul4Kw0ATLpH%2FFxkiULLQxZLnQK33tCmmB%2BfG9Jg%3D&reserved=0 and he has some scripts, also Brian Hartgen from
Hartgen Consultants in the UK has scripts, a few free and others for
purchase.
It may help if you mentioned what scripts they are looking for.

has made the transition rather well but needs to know where to get scrips.
I used to know of a website where we would be able to find JFW scrips. Can
anyone refresh my memory? I truly would appreciate it. Thanks!

I believe that, when you install Duxbury, it will detect that you are using
JFW and install its own scripts. I don't believe there are any "third party"
ones.

As for Goldwave --
The scripts are out there, but I don't think they are maintained anymore.
With the dissolution of the old jFW programmes archive (which I think was
maintained by the owner(s) of that old mailing list?), I do not know where
you can get them. I may have something here if you want to contact me
privately. The programme is quite usable without scripts -- they just give a
bit of extra voice feedback.

If you go to the quick settings while in chrome, insert V and type in progress, you can silence the progress announcements by hitting space on the setting.

Best regards,

Sieghard

This has also been driving me mad for months now, Brave does the same thing as it is based on Chrome.

In the end the solution I found is not to use chrome to download anything unless it is tiny..

For download only I return to the old trusty Internet explorer – just type I after pressing windows key and it will probably come up but keep on typing if it does not.

Press control O and paste in the download link. In IE you will probably have to press F6 to go to the notification bar to confirm whether you want to open or save the download.

After this however if you alt tab away from IE you will not be, unlike the annoying Chrome announcements, me bothered by the download status.

Alt tabbing back into IE will resume the download status announcements or you can press control J to check on the progress of your download.

Hi,

Is there any way to get Chrome to stop announcing a download in progress

and its time remaining every minute or so? It's very annoying for a

longer download. I've gone in to Chrome settings, and blocked all

notifications, but this has no effect.

Thanks,

moderated Jaws2020.1912.11.400 December Update _+ What's New

Mike B

Hi All,

Here y'all go:

32 & 64 bit:

What's new:
Enhancements in JAWS 2020.1912.11 (December 2019)

The following is a list of improvements made between the initial JAWS 2020 release and the December 2019 update.
list of 16 items
• Added Functionality to Fusion, or when running ZoomText and JAWS together, that was previously only available in MAGic. When performing a Say All ( INSERT+DOWN
ARROW ), JAWS begins reading from the current location of the Virtual Cursor or mouse pointer, whichever was last moved. For instance, if you are moving
around a web page or PDF document using the mouse pointer, you can point the mouse at the location where you want to start reading and press INSERT+DOWN
ARROW to start the Say All. This works in Chrome, Internet Explorer, the new Microsoft Edge browser, Acrobat Reader DC, as well as the JAWS Results Viewer
and the JAWS and ZoomText help systems. It currently does not work in Firefox as you must first click at the location where you want to begin reading before
starting the Say All.
• Resolved an issue where table columns in some PDF documents were not being read correctly even when properly tagged in Adobe.
• Addressed an issue with tables in PDF documents where JAWS and Fusion were not reading the table summary.
• The JAWS keystrokes for displaying lists of elements on a web page, such as buttons ( INSERT+CTRL+B ), edit fields ( INSERT+CTRL+E ), regions ( INSERT+CTRL+R
), and so on, can now be found using the JAWS Commands Search ( INSERT+SPACEBAR , followed by J ).
• JAWS and Fusion now announces the current page when using CTRL+TAB to cycle through multiple open tabs in Chrome.
• Added a new Quick Settings ( INSERT+V ) option called "Announce Count of Links, Headings, etc. when page loads," which is on by default. Turning this
setting off causes JAWS and Fusion not to announce the number of these elements when a web page loads.
• When using Navigation Quick Keys in a document in Google Docs ( INSERT+SPACEBAR , followed by Q ), addressed an issue where pressing H or SHIFT+H for
the next or prior heading was not speaking the text of the heading you just moved to.
• Resolved a reported issue where JAWS caused Outlook 365 to unexpectedly close after selecting the Sort item from the application context menu ( SHIFT+F10
or the APPLICATIONS key).
• Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not speaking the names of certain list boxes in Word.
• In retail versions of Word 2013 and 2016, resolved an issue with Comments, Footnotes, and Endnotes detection not indicating the number of items on the
current line as expected even when this option was set to "On plus count" in Quick Settings.
• For those who develop JAWS scripts to help improve accessibility for an application, the Script Manager utility ( INSERT+0 on the number row) has been
updated to offer more modern functionality similar to other popular code editors like Notepad++. This includes syntax highlighting, auto indent as you
type, displaying line numbers, continuous zoom, and more. For additional information including new hot keys, press F1 while focused in the Script Manager
to open its help.
• Both the JAWS and Invisible Scan Cursors now indicate headings and their level as you review text. For example, headings are regularly used in the Weather
application.
• When attempting to access a drive encrypted using the Windows 10 BitLocker utility, resolved a customer reported issue where focus would not remain in
the Password edit field with JAWS and Fusion running, making it difficult to enter the password.
• A user reported problems using the JAWS Dictionary Manager to add new entries for controlling how the active synthesizer pronounces words, phrases, abbreviations,
or symbols. This has been resolved.
• Addressed reported issues with JAWS speech unexpectedly becoming muted after logging into Windows on some systems.
• In addition to English, FSReader is now installed for German, Spanish, French, French Canadian, and Dutch installations of JAWS and Fusion.
list end

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go Rams!
