Re: Turning off download announcement in Chrome
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Isn’t it more a function of the screenreader which reads out the intermittent downloads status announcements? I just tried a relatively large download, SQL Express which in it’s largest version is 1.1 Gb, but I have a fiber connection so even that only took 35 or 40 seconds and all I got at the end was that the download was complete. I personally much prefer Chrome and the download manager it has and this might be a case where you could ask Google Accessibility for help. Pamela, I am pretty sure I also see you on the Viphone list so if you have an iPhone and if you have the Be My Eyes app installed, you can actually call Google Accessibility and since it is Be My Eyes, this is a video call and you could even have a download ready to start and show them.
Best regards, Sieghard

This has also been driving me mad for months now, Brave does the same thing as it is based on Chrome. In the end the solution I found is not to use chrome to download anything unless it is tiny.. For download only I return to the old trusty Internet explorer – just type I after pressing windows key and it will probably come up but keep on typing if it does not. Press control O and paste in the download link. In IE you will probably have to press F6 to go to the notification bar to confirm whether you want to open or save the download. After this however if you alt tab away from IE you will not be, unlike the annoying Chrome announcements, me bothered by the download status. Alt tabbing back into IE will resume the download status announcements or you can press control J to check on the progress of your download. David Griffith

Hi,
Is there any way to get Chrome to stop announcing a download in progress and its time remaining every minute or so? It's very annoying for a longer download. I've gone in to Chrome settings, and blocked all notifications, but this has no effect.
Thanks,

to my knowledge, there isn't any way but if someone knows otherwise,

that would be great to say how. this announcement is so annoying because it will interrupt while trying to do something else like reading an article, or compose a letter or email.

Did you try doing a Google search on your subject line? I found several results about preventing duplicates in a region involving using validation rules.

Re: Adding alt text in MSWord2016
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
Sadly, you will have to call Microsoft Accessibility I think and having them connect to your computer so you can show them that their instructions are wrong.
I just went through the Microsoft Disability answer desk web site specifically on adding alt text with a screen reader. Their steps say to get focus on the image, press alt+j then p and tab to the format object item…only there is no format object item. I had my sighted wife confirm, it isn’t there. This is with Microsoft 365 Word 2016 and Jaws 2020, Narrator, and NVDA, none of which show that option.
Here is the page where I found their steps. There is a topic specific to adding alt-text on this page:
I’m getting ready for work, so I don’t have time to call them myself. If I have time this afternoon, I will.

Adding alt text in MSWord2016
Shivaji Kumar
Hello,
I am trying to add alt text to images in MSWord 2016 using JFW2018 and 2019, but I am not getting the format/alt options. Here are the steps I am following: 1. Select an image 2. Write click using tab+9 or shift+F10 3. This is where I am supposed to get format picture option in which the second tab would be for alt text, but using JFW I am not getting that option for format picture at all. I have tried to insert alt text on two Windows-running PCs in MSWord2016, one with JFW2018 and the other JFW2019. Any suggestions would be much appreciated Thanks

Re: Outlook 2016 sharing a calendar
Jason White
You can display it via the Calendar tree view. If it's checked, it will display alongside any other calendar (use F6 to cycle between open calendars).
You can also use Shift+F10 from the tree view to access a context menu. If I remember correctly, this gives you options such as opening the calendar in another window. However, I haven't looked at this recently, and I may not be remembering correctly. Apparently some of the newest AMD processors currently blow intel out of the water although the new 9th generation I7 is supposed to be also very good.

Be careful when evaluating processor speed. My understanding is that AMD processors have only one core which means that even though an AMD processor may be rated at a speed of say, 3.5 gHZ, it may not be as fast in real world use as a multicore Intel processor rated at the same speed.

Use the system section of control panel to find out what processor you have, then go here: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ and search it out in the chart and get the speed. Do the same with any new computer you are looking at.

Hi.
I haven’t mudded in many many years, but I definitely found accessible clients. If you used to mud on an older oS, chances are whatever client you used then will still work in Windows 10. I honestly can’t remember the names of any – it’s something I was considering getting back into one of these days though. I would just look around for mud clients and try them out until you find one that you like and that works well, if you don’t already have something in mind from before your switch to Win 10.
