Hi:

insert + #1 seems to toggle between something called "keyboard help on/off" but is silent when it's on followed by Cntrl + p sequence.

First thing to do is hit insert-1 in jaws to turn on the key describer
and hit ctrl-p. It should say something like play or pause fs reader
track. If it doesn't, then something is not right with your keyboard.

Hi,
I use Windows 7, but I'm sure there is a similar way to do this in Windows 10.
But when you plug something in, you should get a dialog that says what did you just plug in, and you get to select whether it is headphones, speakers or a microphone.
Usually there is a checkbox that you can check to not ask this in the future.
I think you need to change that back to the default, so you get that dialog when you plug it in.
It's a windows action that you need to change to the default action, which is to ask you when you plug it in.
Or if you did not check that box, maybe that dialog is there, and you need to alt + tab to it when you plug something in.
I don't know which item it lands on in Windows 10, when that dialog pops up, but if you know how many arrows to your desired option, you may be able to do that too, but you should have speech for this.

I have a set of Bose Comfort Bluetooth headphones which can either be plugged in or used Bluetooth but plugged in makes them sound a little better and lengthens the battery time on them. When I have them plugged after an hour or so my screen reader will quit speaking. I unplug them and my computer begins speaking through the speakers. I plug them back in and it’s like the computer doesn’t realize that they are there and continues speaking through the laptop speakers. I have ruled out the headphones being the issue by trying to plug another pair in. At this point I am either stuck moving to Bluetooth or restarting the computer to get it to speak through the headphones.

My guess is that it’s probably a hardware issue but has anyone ever experienced this with a screen reader and if so what was your solution?

First thing to do is see if there is a driver update for the sound chip.  If there is not, then you're probably just out of luck.  I suppose it could be the sound system itself failing, but good luck getting the manufacturer to admit it.

Hi Les,

It has been awhile since I worked with Acrobat ⠠⠏⠗⠕⠂ but this situation worries me. If you have a form that has been created as a PDF file in Pro, chances are you can fill it out--unless the person who created the form didn't have a clue as to what they were ⠙⠕⠬ with accessibility. However, since the form originally was an image and has to be scanned, I doubt the result will be fillable. The person could try saving it as a word document, but the form will probably lose all formatting, and it might not look pretty!

I would like to be wrong about this but ...

Good luck!

That is the subscription version/model, just as with other subscriptions the product only works as long as the subscription is active.

That is, however, not the difference between Jaws Home and Professional, many people own Jaws Home and they bought it long before there was a subscription. Somebody, who bought Jaws 18 certainly could be using Jaws 18 still even though since Jaws 18 was released, Jaws 2018 was released, then Jaws 2019 and in a week or two Jaws 2020.

Marianne,

The home annual license that was created a little over a year ago is most certainly not a perpetual license as was explained in the JAWS meeting at this year's ACB convention. This is the home annual license that you purchase online using the JAWS portal. Maybe we're talking about two different things but that is how the home annual license works.

Thanks for the explanation. I was definitely confusing the home annual license with the home edition. Personally, since they seem to be discussing the home annual license quite a bit, I think they should rename the home edition something else to avoid confusion.
