moderated activating no speech with jaws 2019

William Windels

Hello,

I would like to turn off speech during a hangout meeting.

I was trying to make souch profile to activate with insert+ctrl+s but this seems not to work.

Is there a quick way to turn off speech for a time or in a specific situation?

Kind regards

William Windels

Hi,

I personally use 1Password that is fairly accessible. I noticed better usability with Jaws than NVDA, but most of the features can be performed with the keyboard.

The only complication is the sign up process and subscription. I can remember spending times on their site to get it in place. But once done, it's ok.

Hi group,

I’m using Jaws 2019 and would like to hear your thoughts on password managers. I recall Last Pass, is that still a good option in terms of accessibility with Jaws? Any other helpful info much appreciated.

Thanks,

Norma

Loy,

The JAWS home annual license is a subscription requiring annual renewal. It is a non-perpetual license that stops working when the license term expires.

Hello I use Google Chrome with jaws that is part of fusion.
I have found that the screen reader and Google Chrome do not continue showing the web page if you do not uncheck the box under advanced. That says use Hardware acceleration when available you will want to turn this feature off and it will require Chrome to restart. Another option you may want to turn off that may be helpful it says continuing to run apps when Google Chrome is closed except box and Chrome won't close completely. Hope this helps Lisa Minto on Chrome and Jaws.

Yes, it is a good idea if only numeric password works as usually password require alphanumeric along with a special character.

We also use bitlocker and it loads before JAWS, so it can be a bit tricky if you don’t have light perception.   I can see when the screen is dark because it’s just starting up with the HP logo, then I can see when the screen is filled with a light color, which means I can enter my Bitlocker password.  A hint I was given and love is to use a numeric only password for bitlocker so you are not stuck if caps lock is on or off.  I use a childhood phone number so all I’m entering is the numbers on the number row.

Hi,

At work we use Bitlocker too.

It starts before the login-screen appears.

I have to type my pincode with blind-typing but it works for me.

Before that we have used RSA Tokens and that is more a challenge.

Yes, as long as it doesn’t prompt for a password while loading the operating system, which it shouldn’t if your machine has Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware. I’ve used it successfully with JAWS on laptops that have TPM modules.
