Hi Allen,

You must be reading my spread sheet. 😊 Absolutely on base. Thank you. That’s just what I wanted.

I have manually put in the starting balance (from the prior month), but the calculations were in error after that, so I knew something had to be wrong. That’s when I tried keying in the formula instead of copying it from sheet to sheet. Same problem. But what you gave me is just what I needed. Thanks.

So you really can teach an old dog new tricks. I’ll be 74 next month and I’m still learning.

Shirley

PS Thanks to everyone else who responded.

Hi Shirley,

What might be wrong with your formula is hard to diagnose with the information you've provided. I'll state what I think your bank debits and deposits spreadsheet looks like and we'll go from there. I suspect row 1 is your column headings and that column D contains debits, column E contains deposits, and column F contains a running balance. Assuming you use a different spreadsheet for each month, I would suggest that cell F2 be the opening balance for the month which should equal your closing balance from the previous month's spreadsheet. I personally would manually input the starting balance for cell F2 because I'm not a big fan of using formulas to bring amounts from other spreadsheets. Row 3 should contain the activity for the current month so the formula in cell F3 would be =(F2-D3+E3). I expect columns A through C contain date, description, and some other text field but those don't have formulas and don't seem to be giving you a problem.

I would check to make sure your opening balance in cell F2 is a manually input number and then I would input the formula I provided above into cell F3 and go from there. If you're still having problems, make sure columns D through F are formatted as numbers.

Good luck.

Hi Listers,

First, I do not fully know how to use Excel like many of you who probably use it for work. But I do use it for keeping our Writers Club’s roster and my bank account spread sheets. I used to have a formula that I could use in keeping a spread sheet of my bank debits and deposits—balancing my account. The formula I was given was =(E3-D3)+F2 and it helped me keep account of the totals when putting in debits and credits. Used to work great. Now, however, when I start a new monthly spread sheet, I get a message that the formula I key in is an error. I don’t know if something has gotten erased from the formula I had in my original file, or if the formulas have changed over time. Otherwise, I have no need to learn Excel. Can someone just please help me with this formula or tell me what might be wrong?

Thank you.

How do I switch to the monthly channel for updates of Office 365? I’ve just tried to update and been advised my latest update was October 2018 and I am up-to-date. On checking I still appear to be on the 2016 build. I have 3 machines and they all report the same thing including one which is new on which 365 was installed 4 weeks ago. I am in the UK but I assume I should still be on the 2019 build.

Thanks

Hi. I wouldn't wish ITune for Windows on my worst enemy.  Stick to Winamp or Groove Music or Windows Media player even and they should do a more then adequate job of allowing you to organize your music collection.  ITunes is excellent on the mac, but  a horror on windows.  Cheers!

Except if it's a 32-bit app where the developer never bothered to change it 64-bit, in this case you maybe able to install it on your iPhone (not sure), but it sure won't run since only 64-bit apps will work.

at least if you have bought an app and it is removed from the apple app store you would still have it on your computer and could reinstall it.
you can not do this with the newest i tunes version.

I put your formula in my spread sheet and it works. Maybe add sum to the formula. Like:

=sum(E3-D3)+F2

Both ways worked in my spread sheet.

Hi Shirley,
I find it easiest to just copy the contents of the cell with the formula and pasting it elsewhere.
So I would have both spread sheets open, and go to the cell where the formula works, and do control + C to copy, and control + tab to the other spreadsheet and move to where you want the formula, and paste it with control + V.

a slight correction and some other info:

when pressing numpad 6, make sure the numpad is set to the reading keypad (insert+numpad - (it's a toggle that cycles)). to save the configuration, press alt+t and then v and enter if there's only the default configuration. you can setup (I don't know if there's a limit) custom configurations taylored to your needs. you can switch to a custom configuration manually after starting K1000 (alt+t and then l, arrow to the configuration name and enter). I don't know if there's a way to automatically load a custom configuration instead of K1000 starting with the default configuration.

Subject: Scanning a document in K1000 and Open Book Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a setting which can be altered in the latest versions of either K1000 or Open Book so that the display on the screenor the saved document matches the layout of the original material?

I need to scan some technical material and have the result match the layout of the original document.Currently the lines are joined and all over the place which is vastly different from the original document.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Tom

You will want to take the quotes out of this.
Also, mine work better if I keep the M3U file in the same folder as the music and remove the part of the path of each song up to the folder where the music folders are.

Is there an m3u file?

Or is that just too old school.  Windows Media used to use m3u files to run the playlist.

I just do them on my iPhone, so probably out to lunch here.

I have tried this and it does not work for me.

It produces an error message no matter what media player I use, VLC Groove Music etc.

Below is the contents of the m3u file I created.

Can anybody tell me why it does not work?

I find it pretty easy to make a playlist using NotePad and copying the path of the files I want in the playlist.

Shift + applications then the letter A copies the full path of the file for the playlist and then I paste that in NotePad.

I actually use control + space bar for all the files in a folder before doing the copy path command, so I can copy the path of a bunch of files at once.

Then when I'm done and save the TXT file, I exit NotePad and rename the file extension from TXT to M3U.

Kevin,  I use Winamp all of the time and I have created lots of play lists with it.  It is totally keyboard accessible.

Does Winamp or Groove allow one to create playlists?

Hi. I wouldn't wish ITune for Windows on my worst enemy.  Stick to Winamp or Groove Music or Windows Media player even and they should do a more then adequate job of allowing you to organize your music collection.  ITunes is excellent on the mac, but  a horror on windows.  Cheers!

I started to use ITunes with Jaws 2019 and doesn’t work to well. I have a hard time with the playlists I created to show. Then when I navigate around eventually a certain playlist shows. At least I thought it did. Then I press enter on the play button and it plays a song in a different playlist. Is there a way to change something in Jaws settings or ITune settings to get it to work better?

It isn't any worse.

What areas are you most concerned with?

Hi,

I have been putting off letting ITunes update to the latest version.  Before I do I thought I’d find out if I will regret it.

Thanks.

Brian, excellent point. It should be noted however on a broad aspect of things that a computer tech it’s like a doctor. Sometimes the patient comes but they don’t know what the problem is. So it’s up to the doctor to ask the right questions. It is, a symbiotic relationship.
