jaws key and f4 dumps and reloads jaws.
it depends on your keyboard layout.
the jaws key can be the insert keys or the caps lock key and the f4 key.

OK, I hope that our estimable group owner here on this group will not find what I'm about to do upsetting, but now I must:

Why, oh why, does there even need to be another JAWS users group on Groups.io?

It seems that all the refugees (for lack of a better term) from the now defunct group that have landed on our shores have been welcomed to our island.  Why on earth form another island, again, for information sharing about exactly the same software that we share about here?  Why not just come here and join our happy family?

What is the pressing need for JAWS user's groups two through N, at least within any given language community? What am I missing?

Another quick way is to copy a date from another date formatted cell and then change the date to the date you want.

I am not sure what you are exactly trying to do.   You said that Excel is not recognizing dates as text only.

Excel recognizes the contents of a cell depending on how you have the cell formatted.  How do you have the cells you are entering dates in formatted?  To change the format of a cell hit control and the number 1 on the numbers row.  This will bring up the format dialog box.  I would recommend changing the format of the cells to date to see if this helps you accomplish what you are trying to do.

Does Excel change the format to Date but Jaws will not read the date Format or Excel will not allow you to format a cell to be date format?

In 2012 i bought a high end Dell desktop PC for over a thousand dollars and it lasted 5 years.  in 2017 I read about refurb PCs on walmart.com and found an HP desktop with 8 GB RAM and an AMD 3.7 GH processor amd a 2 TB HD for $184.  At that price I bought 2, one for me and one for my wife.  After almost 2.5 years, both machines are running like Timex watches.  What I learned is that you should consider your use case.  Most folks buy far more PC than they need, and could save a lot of money that they could use for software, etc.  The other thing I liked about these units was a clean copy of Windows with no bloatware.

Hello all:
Tyler, thank you for the insight. I mainly use Microsoft office suite, and browse the web with this unit. I’m looking on dell.com. I’m looking at a I seven 512 solid-state drive with 16 gig of RAM. And a plain graphics card. That retails for $1200. I’m not looking to spend more than that, and it states it’s a gaming computer. If the unit specs will last me around six years plus I would be very happy with that.

Unless he has some software that is requiring it, which would be surprising.
I will never go back to a standard HD drive after using my SSD drive now for a year.

This is completely, 100% true.
Although using a solid state drive in 2019 is almost a must - at least for
those that have experienced one. But so far as other sspecs are concerned
there are too many people out there that equate an i7 or i9 to being better
and that simply isn't true for just about 99% of use case scenarios.
Now that I look back at the specs, what are you needing a dedicated Nvidia
Graphics card for in particular? Intel hd graphics does just fine so far as
Jaws is concerned.

The suggestion about a 500 GB SSD is totally subjective.
I've seen folks who never use more than 80 to 10 GB of their HD.
Too often people think bigger is better and that is not always the case.
Also, when you look at all the high specs, what are you doing with it all?
I mean, I'll bet 90% of us here don't do any more than read eMail, open some
web pages, open a spread sheet program once in a while, and listen to some
MP3 audio.
All this can be done with 10 year old technology just fine.

Two thoughts, and there could be many others. First, put the JAWS
focus somewhere else, maybe you are focused on the time display.
Second,
assuming you?re just listening to the video and don?t need JAWS for
anything else at the moment, press insert+space, S to have JAWS just

Even more specifically, once you open the cell formatting dialog, tab once to Category and arrow down to “Date”.  Excel defaults the cell format to General, which is at the top of the list.  Once “Date” is selected, tab once and you’ll have a list of the way you want the date to show up.  You can select choices where it just shows month, or month and day or month, day, year.  Arrow down and hit enter on the one you want.

Two thoughts, and there could be many others. First, put the JAWS
focus somewhere else, maybe you are focused on the time display. Second,
assuming you?re just listening to the video and don?t need JAWS for anything
else at the moment, press insert+space, S to have JAWS just give speech on
the demand, then switch it back.

Hello, There has been several times I will be on a web site and
listening to a video. every 20 seconds or so the amount of time that
has elapsed is read by Jaws. Is there a way to turn this off? Thanks,
Kevin

Can you get to that field, and type in it? Maybe, if you just get to that field, and type in it the state will populate automatically. Hope this helps.

Hi Jed, the states and jobs are split I'm going to Collins, so you have to interact with the column in that state jobs as you want. Does that help you any? There's no pop up box or anything.

Hey guys
So i am trying to apply for a position, but am running into an issue
with their web page.
So i can fill out most of the form, until i get to the state. It
comes up as an edit box, but it also looks like it's a dropdown to
select a state. I don't understand why people don't use combo boxes
the way they are supposed to.
Can someone look at it, to figure out how i am supposed to enter the
state, cause i can't submit the form.

I wonder if you had a suggestion about a problem I am having with excel. I have gone through all of the help info with no luck at all. I don’t know if you can help but here it is. Excel does not recognize date formats as numbers only as text. When I enter a dates in a date column I need it to be recognized as a date in order to sort them to put them in order. I have no luck in using the date value or value function getting an error that my formula is wrong. I have gone on the internet and have had no luck with support.microsoft.com and it isn’t a disability issue for Microsoft accessibility help. Is there something I am missing? Do you have any suggestions ?

Marty, That sounds good. I actually unloaded Jaws and then loaded when it was done. Does anyone know how I can mark the spot I’m currently at and then come back to it later on? That is if I close out of the window. Thanks, KEvina

Kevin,  I usually have to hit Alt Tab while I am listening and Alt Tab back to the browser when the video is over.

Have you made sure that the cell(s) are formatted as “date?”  You’ll see that formatting option in the same place where you format the cells(s) number style.

Subject: Word Suddenly Verbose about Doc Layout

Suddenly inn the past 2 days Jaws2019 has started voicing previously unspoken doc layout info not previously spoken. For example, a Word doc containing the line “Departure: October 31, 2019” will be spoken as “Departure:space marker October space marker 31, space marker 2019 paragraph mark.” I don’t know how this started or how to stop the unwanted verbosity. Running Jaws2019, Office 2016 Pro, Win 10, all latest versions. Any help greatly appreciated … although please be as step-by-step as possible.
