Hello,

With the risk of sounding self-promoting, you could check out the book I wrote entitled “Format Your Word Documents with JAWS and NVDA: A Guide for Students and Professionals.” Depending on format chosen, you can purchase it for between 18 and 20 dollars at:

Also, "what's accessible with JAWS" comes up as part of the natural flow of topics on this very group, and the material can be accessed easily by searching the group archive.

Not that I don't think having a centralized repository isn't a good thing, but it does already exist and will continue to exist.

To Angel, if this is something you want it would be welcome here.  But if someone else isn't doing it, think about becoming that someone who is.  That's how this stuff generally gets started in the first place.

First of all, the list you are referring to was called JAWS Lite, not JFW Lite, an important distinction.?? This list is still in existence, but is mostly inactive and hence does not qualify as a bone fide list for the discussion of JAWS issues.?? There is already a resource that contains a comprehensive list of free, JAWS-accessible programs.?? It is the programs page of the JAWS-Users web site, which will continue to be accessible even though the JAWS-Users list has been shut down.

This may not help but might be worth a try –

Check which view your files are opening in. I like draft view and the shortcut for that is Alt +w then e.

Sometimes that works.

Hi all, this is Michael. I'm currently experiencing an issue with Jaws in Word.
Yestrerday, I asked my school's tech department to update my computer to the latest Windows 10 built 1903. After the update was completed, Jaws begin to act weird in Word. When I press the Left and right arrow key to read work by word instead of reading it, Jaws skip's them and read the next word proceeded to the word next to it.
Some time, It won't read the next word period. I want to know what really cause Jaws to do this? My tech instructor and I  tried every possible ways  to troubleshoot  and the issue still not resolved.
here are the  ways that we take to troubleshoot:
·       Open a series of documents in Word to make sure that it wasn’t one particular doc causing the problem.

·        and pasted text only into Word and this would work for a line or two.

·       Found a Windows 1903 packet that needed to be installed, downloaded and installed it.

·       Removed old downloads of JAWS, temp file cleanup, disk clean up.

·       Downloaded fresh JAWS install and ran a JAWS repair successfully.
NVDA was able to, but not JAWS.

We then opened Out look and did the same thing and  Outlook  can read the same text that I pasted from word with out any issue.

All feed back are greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Best regards

JM,

My central point being, if you want to walk away from list ownership, that's fine.  But you can do that without literally taking it offline.

It's a simple matter to either lock the list and walk away if you want to encase the current content of the archive in amber and have it accessible for others (or at least members, if it was a private list) to search or to announce that you're walking away and the list is now unmoderated, making sure you throw open the permissions before you head out the door.

Either of those is a more decent and reasonable thing to do than just closing up shop and blowing it up.

Yeah… It just came off as a small and petty. Anyway… I think I’m going to hold off on joining. Who knows how many refugees from the old list will even hear about the new one. I’m guessing at first anyway, the majority of folks who join will be the same people on this blindtech and the other JFW list. Seriously… To just blow it up like that without even a heads up. There were probably a lot of folks on that list who need more help than others to find their way. Just to cast them out like that… Messed up. I believe that David guy is also a member of one or two other lists I belong too. Who knows if he’ll interact with them or if it was an entire withdrawal type of deal.

However, it appears that someone promptly created a group here on Groups.io that is the stub of a replacement.  I am mentioning this only because of this topic, which I believe is legitimate to discuss here:  Jaws Help Website

If there's a way to get at the help content historically available, regardless of where it is, that's worth sharing in my opinion, even on a "competing list" like this one.  And I really don't consider the lists in competition in any meaningful sense.

I'd love to see "blind technology" traffic become less fragmented, not more, though there is definite room for separate lists for things like JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, etc.  I still, for myself, would prefer a grand, unified "screen reader and blind technology" group myself, as there is a lot of information on each of these that are completely applicable or easily translatable to the others.   But history often dictates structure, and it sure does at the moment.

With list management software like Groups.io has, each user can easily tailor their own experience even on high-traffic groups if they wish to do so.
