Yes, we are talking about the Jaws Users group. I had a feeling that it would come to this, but still, it was quite a shock.

Chris Hill
think you might have one more thing to try. Call Freedom Scientific. I suspect your problem is something nobody else is likely to solve for you. I haven't heard anyone mention it here before and all is well on my stuff.

Jaws issue
Michael Munn
Hi all, this is Michael. I'm currently experiencing an issue with Jaws in Word. Yestrerday, I asked my school's tech department to update my computer to the latest Windows 10 built 1903. After the update was completed, Jaws begin to act weird in Word. When I press the Left and right arrow key to read work by word instead of reading it, Jaws skip's them and read the next word proceeded to the word next to it. Some time, It won't read the next word period. I want to know what really cause Jaws to do this? My tech instructor and I tried every possible ways to troubleshoot and the issue still not resolved. here are the ways that we take to troubleshoot: · Open a series of documents in Word to make sure that it wasn’t one particular doc causing the problem. · and pasted text only into Word and this would work for a line or two. · Found a Windows 1903 packet that needed to be installed, downloaded and installed it. · Removed old downloads of JAWS, temp file cleanup, disk clean up. · Downloaded fresh JAWS install and ran a JAWS repair successfully. NVDA was able to, but not JAWS. We then opened Out look and did the same thing and Outlook can read the same text that I pasted from word with out any issue. All feed back are greatly appreciate it. Thanks Best regards Michael Munn -- Michael Munn Member: Virginia Association of Blind students National Federation of the Blind of Virginia www.nfbv.org Maryland Association of Blind Students National Federation of the Blind of Maryland www.nfbmd.org Students of: Hadley Institute of the Blind

Cristóbal
Yeah… It just came off as a small and petty. Anyway… I think I’m going to hold off on joining. Who knows how many refugees from the old list will even hear about the new one. I’m guessing at first anyway, the majority of folks who join will be the same people on this blindtech and the other JFW list. Seriously… To just blow it up like that without even a heads up. There were probably a lot of folks on that list who need more help than others to find their way. Just to cast them out like that… Messed up. I believe that David guy is also a member of one or two other lists I belong too. Who knows if he’ll interact with them or if it was an entire withdrawal type of deal.

Re: The List
Cristobal,
As so many owner martinets do! However, it appears that someone promptly created a group here on Groups.io that is the stub of a replacement. I am mentioning this only because of this topic, which I believe is legitimate to discuss here: Jaws Help Website If there's a way to get at the help content historically available, regardless of where it is, that's worth sharing in my opinion, even on a "competing list" like this one. And I really don't consider the lists in competition in any meaningful sense. I'd love to see "blind technology" traffic become less fragmented, not more, though there is definite room for separate lists for things like JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, etc. I still, for myself, would prefer a grand, unified "screen reader and blind technology" group myself, as there is a lot of information on each of these that are completely applicable or easily translatable to the others. But history often dictates structure, and it sure does at the moment. With list management software like Groups.io has, each user can easily tailor their own experience even on high-traffic groups if they wish to do so. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 Many of the insights of the saint stem from his experience as a sinner. ~ Eric Hoffer

I’m sure David would say that since it was his list, he could do whatever he wanted etc. etc.… Still though, seems like a bunch of weak sauce to just abruptly pull the plug on it like that.

I'm not sure what list you are talking about, unless it's the JAWS users list of that same name. I left it quite a while ago, because I was chastised for not being a passive follower of all things VFO. The owner appeared to be on a power trip with a very heavy hand. Too bad it's gone, but no surprise.

My central point being, if you want to walk away from list ownership, that's fine. But you can do that without literally taking it offline. It's a simple matter to either lock the list and walk away if you want to encase the current content of the archive in amber and have it accessible for others (or at least members, if it was a private list) to search or to announce that you're walking away and the list is now unmoderated, making sure you throw open the permissions before you head out the door. I’m not always so good at “reading” peoples’ emotions twhom I don’t know in text, and I guess what came across as a bit of grumbling was actually some kinf of emotional distress. Don’t know what was going on behind the scenes or even if he tried to hand the list over to someone else. Perhaps there were no takers. That list existed for a very long time, too…

It is a poor, poor list owner indeed that just shuts down a list unannounced. It simply isn't done if you have any integrity at all. The content created in lists and their archives may be "mechanically owned" by a list owner, but are actually owned by the membership. It is always possible to permanently lock a list, and walk away, leaving the archive content accessible if there is no one who you'd care to hand it over to. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 Many of the insights of the saint stem from his experience as a sinner. ~ Eric Hoffer

The fire stick is the latest version with the Alexa remote so you can talk to it. The Sampson is a new 32 inch Samsung smart TV. Both are easy to use. the Roku is just an old Roku I don't know probably first gen.

Hi Bill, I've used audio description with Netflix successfully without issues on Samsung smart TV, Roku and Amazon fire stick. On All but the Roku I used voice feedback. on the Roku someone else did it. It was an older one that Didn't have voice feedback but it still work for audio description. Hi Listers
Any opinions on using Audio Description on Netflix? What are some winning combinations - smart TV with or without Roku 3? FireStick? Better on tablet? Better on PC? Better with Apple TV? Any failed combinations? Known issues?
Thanks Bill
