Jason, NVDA reads out other attributes of the text, but no information regarding the highlight. I read around the internet and found out that word doesn't identify highlights as format settings. NVDA also can't recognise highlighted text.

All you have to do is to download the JAWS executable and run it, and it will repair the product.  In my case, thanks to some guidance from FS tech support, I also copied my settings folder, found when you hit Explore my Settings from utilities, elsewhere and deleted its contents.  That was the only way I solved my problem.  Also, a couple of us have experienced, if you have any older versions of JAWS on the system, that the program insists on coming up asking you to merge the settings from the earlier version, and it will not accept no for an answer.  I had to remove JAWS 2018 which I never used any longer anyway.

Dear Listers:

When I tried to install the latest JAWS 2019 update tonight, it would not download, and I got a suggestion to do a JAWS repair.  I am using the JAWS Home edition and am using Windows 10.  With the update of JAWS 2019 I have, the version that I have is J2019.1907.31.  When I went to the Freedom Scientific download page and tried to locate the .exe for J2019.1907.31 there was none.  All that showed was J2019.1907.42.exe.  When I tried to save it to the C drive I got a dialog saying that my administrator would not allow me to save it on the C drive.  Even after I renamed the file as j2019.1907.31.exe, the same dialog  kept popping up.  I have to do a JAWS repair before I will be able to download the latest update.  Can one of you help me and tell me how to go about it.  Thanks.

Normally I pin my most used shortcuts to the Taskbar and these shortcuts are never affected by Jaws updates.  But, yesterday I created a Chrome shortcut keystroke from the desktop icon and after I ran that J2019.1907.42 update that came out yesterday my Chrome shortcut keystroke didn't work anymore, so I've recreated it and went on my merry way.  I don't know why this keystroke was affected and none of my other icon shortcut keystrokes were not, but I just chalk it up to, oh well what the hell, and move on!  LOL

It works fine here. Perhaps press JAWSKey+1, then press the keystroke and
see what message you get, just to verify that you're pressing the right
keystroke. Otherwise, if it isn't working in the present version of JAWS, a
repair may be needed, and you can call FS tech support. I had a recent
bizarre problem where, actually for some time, the F quick key in my browser
did nothing, whereas it should navigate among form controls. I had to do a
repair, after copying my settings file and deleting my settings.

I don’t use Sound Forge, but if you do, you probably have a pretty good idea of what you are doing. And you should be able to set your recording input to “what you hear” or “system” or “loop” or something like that, so it will capture the sound issued by your card.

There might be an easier way. Look around on the web and see what solutions people have. I thought that back in th e day, maybe before Skype was a microsoft product, it had a record feature built-in, but if that was ever the case, it’s certainly gone, now.

Subject: Recording Skype calls

Can anyone give me some insights on recording a skype call? I use Jaws.

If one needs to record it in another program rather than Skype, I do use Sound Forge.

Thanks.

If you are logging into your Gmail account via the web and using Google Chrome on a Windows system, Personally I have found it best to set the web interface to html.

Each time you log in you will have to go to the top of the page and find the html button.

Otherwise you will have to turn the virtual cussor off. Doing this, I don't know how it will work as I have not been using this way to access my gmail account.

Hi David,

It's not the Insert key you press.  Hold the,Control & Alt keys down together and press pageup or pagedown.
Control, alt, + page up or down for temporary changes.

Control, alt, windows key, + page up or down for permanent changes.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!
I believe that everything happens for a reason. Usually, the reason is that somebody screwed up.

Hi:

Is the insert + pg up/dwn key presses simultaneous or done in sequence?

Sincerely yours,

Unless you're using Insert Key mode in settings, which you likely aren't,
you hold down insert and press pgdn or pdup simultaneously.
