Of course it is an alt=+control shortcut!  Thank you for pointing this out, as I was obviously not thinking at all.

Now, on to your shortcut question: this seems a bit mystifying.  How was your Google Chrome shortcut created, and how were the shortcuts that survive the update created?  I definitely have no problem of JAWS updates impacting windows shortcut keys!

Hello Mike:

Have confirmed that it’s the alt + Cntrl + page up/down keys that accomplish this change.  Thanks for the info.

Being from State of MA(originally), have to stick with the BoSox.

One more question:  Each time I install a Jaws update, it “wipes out” my Google Chrome(keyboard) shortcut while a couple of others I have remain unaffected.  Any thoughts?

Best regards,

Hi David,

It's not the Insert key you press.  Hold the,Control & Alt keys down together and press pageup or pagedown.

Control, alt, + page up or down for temporary changes.

Control, alt, windows key, + page up or down for permanent changes.

I don’t use Sound Forge, but if you do, you probably have a pretty good idea of what you are doing. And you should be able to set your recording input to “what you hear” or “system” or “loop” or something like that, so it will capture the sound issued by your card.

There might be an easier way. Look around on the web and see what solutions people have. I thought that back in th e day, maybe before Skype was a microsoft product, it had a record feature built-in, but if that was ever the case, it’s certainly gone, now.

Can anyone give me some insights on recording a skype call? I use Jaws.

If one needs to record it in another program rather than Skype, I do use Sound Forge.

Thanks.

If you are logging into your Gmail account via the web and using Google Chrome on a Windows system, Personally I have found it best to set the web interface to html.

Each time you log in you will have to go to the top of the page and find the html button.

Otherwise you will have to turn the virtual cussor off. Doing this, I don't know how it will work as I have not been using this way to access my gmail account.

Unless you're using Insert Key mode in settings, which you likely aren't,
you hold down insert and press pgdn or pdup simultaneously.

If you just want to temporarilly increase or decrease the speach rate, while
JAWS is reading after pressing Insert+Down Arrow, just press the Page up to
increase or Page Down to decrease the rate. The speach will revert back to
your normal setting when you Alt+Tab away and back to your application.

I'm not sure if this affects just the program in use or it affects the
default (global) setting, but:

control+alt+page up or page down increases or decreases the speech rate
but the change is temporary.

control+windows+alt+page up or page down increases or decreases speech
rate but the change is permanent.

Just save it to your desktop or downloads folder, shouldn’t be a problem and there is no reason to save stuff to your root drive.

Dear Listers:

When I tried to install the latest JAWS 2019 update tonight, it would not download, and I got a suggestion to do a JAWS repair.  I am using the JAWS Home edition and am using Windows 10.  With the update of JAWS 2019 I have, the version that I have is J2019.1907.31.  When I went to the Freedom Scientific download page and tried to locate the .exe for J2019.1907.31 there was none.  All that showed was J2019.1907.42.exe.  When I tried to save it to the C drive I got a dialog saying that my administrator would not allow me to save it on the C drive.  Even after I renamed the file as j2019.1907.31.exe, the same dialog  kept popping up.  I have to do a JAWS repair before I will be able to download the latest update.  Can one of you help me and tell me how to go about it.  Thanks.

I don’t think JAWS sees highlights. If your collaborator is willing, perhaps to place a character, such as star or left bracket that may not appear anywhere else in the text, at the beginning of the highlighted passage, then you could search for that character.  But of course not everybody can or will take that step.

Hi All,

This J2019.1907.42 is an update to the J2019.1907.31 update that came out the other day.  Y'all know the drill.

32 & 64 bit:

What's new:

Enhancements in JAWS 2019.1907.42 (August 2019)
This update to the August 2019 release addresses a recently discovered issue where JAWS application scripts failed to load in the latest Skype for Desktop
update (version 8.51) released the week of August 12, 2019. There are other possible applications where this could have resulted in scripts not loading
also such as the Desktop version of Slack.
