Hi Laura,

The problem with your method is that it only works if you run in the taskbar. Whenever I install Jaws on a new system it is one of the first things I do to set it to run from the system tray because if I press Alt + Tab to cycle through my open applications I definitely don't need to come across Jaws in that list. Running jaws in the system tray puts it out of the way, but Jaws Key + J gets me to the menus easily enough should I need to do anything there.

Another easy way to hear the version of Jaws is to alt + tab to Jaws, then press the up arrow once and it will read the version of Jaws.

Hi again, Milton. On the other hand, if I follow your steps with one change, it does give the JAWS version information. I will outline the steps below.

Hold the JAWS key and press the letter J. This will put focus on the JAWS icon.

Press ALT + H which is the Help Menu and press the letter A. You should then hear the version information.

Hi Bill,

Correct, replace the L with an A or simply press Jaws Key + J, H for Help and then up arrow to "About".

from, mack I used to think bookmarks in chrome were so important, but they are not. unless you turned it off, the predictor will suggest a site if you only type a few letters. I never need to open chrome bookmarks. as long as I know the name of the site, just type a few letters and hit enter when the site name is read back to you. it's less time consuming than searching through bookmarks.

Hello Randy,

I have had this problem before, and I restarted JAWS, which seemed to fix it. If that doesn't work, you might try restarting the computer.

I can't think of anything else to try. Good luck.

Howdy All,

I just ran into an issue with Dropbox where it wouldn't let me acces my
files. Well, it turned out that it wanted to update and after downloading
the installer and reinstalling Dropbox navigating the folders flat out
sucked, so here's how to change the necessary setting for easier
navigation.

1. Open Dropbox from the system tray, tab to, Access and Manage your
Dropbox
settings button, and press enter.

2. Now tab to, Preferences, and press enter.

3. On the General tab, tab to the, Open folders in Dropbox combobox, open
this combobox and choose the, Explorer, option. With Jaws you can open
this
combobox with Alt + down arrow and then up arrow to the Explorer option and
press enter to close the combobox. Now tab to, Okay, and press enter to
save and close preferences.
Note: This can act a little tricky so it might take a couple of attempts
to
get the Explorer settings change to stick.
If you have a shortcut key that opens Dropbox options, after you
openDropbox
up arrow to, Preferences, press enter and follow step 3 from above.

What happens when you press the windows key, then, exactly?

Are you sure you are in fact pressing the Windows key?

I only ask this question because, in my experience, there are some people who have gotten the Windows and Applications keys confused.

Have you tried using ctrl-escape instead of the windows key? This is an alternative way of accessing the start/search. Of course it won’t work for windows key combinations like windows key + f.
