Hi Sarah!

Thanks for your below.  Are you saying that you also encounter this problem occasionally?  I am still trying to solve this problem.  It seems to me that it ought not happen.  Most likely, I am either doing something wrong or not understanding how to do something correctly.  That is, I think this is a “user issue.”

Bye,

Richard

Damn. My pC builder guy just used Macrium to clone my system drive and second partition as we moved everything to the new SSD I just bought. I didn’t actually do it myself so I can’t offer any advice, and this computer is still running Win 10 1803.

Good luck.

Hello:

Can anyone recommend free software to enable me to clone my hard drive to an external drive?

I was using Macrium Reflect but since the last update, I get an error I cannot get past.  I tried to find a way to contact Macrium to let them know about it but was unable to get to them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

With the latest JAWS, try creating a new settings centre file for CCleaner then set MSA mode to advanced. This works for me. I'm able to check and uncheck buttons.

Hi David. I am relatively new to using Braille with my I Device, and I can tell you that using a 40 cell display is probably the best solution, mainly because smaller displays would require to pan a lot as you indicated in your message.
As far as JAWS support, it always seems to work better with the Focus models, but that is to be expected considering they make the Focus line of displays. However, I have used different brands of braille displays, and if you take the time to read how to set them up, you can make them work very well. JAWS has played nice with the other braille display models that I have tested. The important thing to remember is to make sure you follow the manufacturers recommended set up instructions. If they say you need to install a driver, by all means, do so.

Subject: Some braille questions

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, and I don't intend to start a flame war or anything of the sort, but I have a couple questions. I have a Brailliant BI 40, and I prefer to use braille for everything. The main thing I'm having trouble with finding out is the state of Jaws refreshable braille support. I'm currently using NVDA with the braille extender add-on, and it seems to do quite a lot. Jaws braille support looks quite good, but I wonder which things it does differently or possibly better than my current setup. I read quite a lot of different things, some of which are quite technical, i.e. math, logic, computer science, philosophy and that sort of thing, so I was wondering if a Jaws subscription would be worth the trouble, or not.
The difference isn't obvious just playing with it. Yes, a lot has to do with personal preference but I was just wondering if I'd missed something. I've always heard that Jaws had the best braille support of any of the screen readers and I've decided to look at it and see what's up. Also, for those that use braille a lot, do you find it helpful to have an extra display to carry around? The BI 40 seems to be reasonably compact for a 40-cell display and seems to work well, but sometimes I do a lot of traveling, and wondered if a smaller display would be worth the trouble. I have large hands though and I like the 40 cell displays a
lot: I find it's a good size. But again, was there something I didn't consider? I have an iphone 8 plus, which I quite like for reading books when I'm out, but do these newer smaller displays have anything I'd care about, or would I just end up wearing out the panning buttons and my hands? Thank you for reading this.

I don't like to use the small braille displays for reading books. 12 or 14 cells aren't enough cells for heavy reading. I take my FOcus 40 with me as a portable Braille display and it works great.

I can't answer your other question since I have never used NVDA.

Yes, firefox has indeed become a bit slow, and the same for thunderbird, but the trouble is that I don't really want to use google chrome because it seems less customizable than firefox and doesn't have reader mode, and I'm not sure about privacy, so I may just have to try edge. I'd like to make sure that only the people tracking me are ones that I have asked to track, but I'm not sure chrome lets you do that. And I haven't really found a good mail client either. I suppose I could use the Windows one, but it seems to have a slimmer interface, and I have a lot of thunderbird customizations, so I'm still sticking with firefox for historical reasons. I suspect a lot of others have noticed similar.

Amazon.com/access, Googled; should be first in search results—the one that says, “online shopping for electronics...” etc. Again, it’s not nearly as uncluttered as I’d like, but some is better than none. Next time I’m there, I should put it in my i.e. favorites—in all these years, I haven’t—don’t know why.

If you encounter this problem again one thing that may help is to tab away from the edit box and then press shift-tab to move back to the edit box. Usually, this allows JAWS to properly read the text contained within the edit field.

Hi,

I am running the latest Chrome browser with the latest version of Jaws on the latest version of Windows 10. I find that when I go in to an edit box, I cannot arrow around to review what I've written. This action often takes me out of the field and to the next or previous parts of the web page, depending on which arrows I press. It just started doing this recently.

this does not happen with Firefox or IE11 or even Edge.

Is there a work around for this? Changing forms options in Jaws seems to have no effect.

At one point there was an issue with the iOS app where when Voiceover was enabled one couldn’t continue beyond the address selection, but I think that was fixed a while back. The fact is that I rarely use the app, doing it on the PC with Jaws is super accessible and if you remember you address and payment selection or have only one address and one payment card entered it’s basically a matter of activating a couple of buttons and maybe to select the shipping method before you get to the “Place Order” button.

I have used Amazon.com (or, more recently, smile.amazon.com if one wishes to have some tiny portion of one's purchase dollars go to the charity of one's choosing) as a site when I'm training folks to use JAWS for a very long time now.

It was, at least through last fall, very accessible, and if memory serves once one does a product search the individual products returned are all structured as headings, so it's easy to use the headings list feature of JAWS to cruise through those quickly and easily (or use the quick navigation key for headings).

Hi ann.

Unfortunately, the latest version of jaws has some issues with chrome. I reported this to Vispero, and they said until a fix is available to use Firefox or Internet explorer until a fix is in place. If you're having issues like this, it's probably best to use either Firefox or Internet explorer for the time being, and I would also recommend sending an e-mail to support@... to report this issue.

Thanks.

Jay.

Subject: Problems with edit boxes in latest Chrome

Thanks,

~Ann
