Re: bookmarks chrome RE: best web browser to use with JAWS?
Gudrun Brunot
Hi all: I actually do alt-d to highlight the url in the address bar;
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
copy it to the clipboard. If I'm on a hunt for something and want to save a few addresses as bookmark; I have a notepad file open. If I need to; ai write som e identifier above the url; apst it in on its own line below the identifier. When I have the ones I want to put into favorites; I call up old Internet Explorer and do control-o; paste in the url; then alt-a to grab that as a favorite. I do the same with the ones I've caught with Crome. So; basically; I'm still using IE--instead of getting a third-party favorites manager. I just can't stand not having my favorites conveniently available on my hard drive ready to grab sith my hotkey anywhere. Yes; it may not be the fastest way imaginable; but it works and I get the favorites where I want them and can move them into their proper folder/subfolder to my heart's content. Hi Sharron, I actually found bookmarks the hardest transition when I first moved from IE to chrome, but now use chrome all the time and almost never use IE any more. One tip I can give regarding bookmarks which I found really helpful with Chrome is there is a key combination to quickly access bookmarks in a list similar to how IE displays them. If you press and hold ALT and then press F (it should say context menu at this stage), then release alt and f, press b (it should say something like bookmarks sub menu), simply press right cursor key and you're in the list of bookmarks. I realised As I wrote that it actually sounds more complicated than it actually is , but I do find this key stroke a really quick and easy way of accessing bookmarks in chrome. Hope that helps. Re: JAWS and NVDA
Dean Martineau <topdot@...>
That is a vast question. The more we know about what applications you use, what your aspirations are, and what your experience is, the more useful information we can give. JAWS is more often used in employment settings. Some say NVDA is better on the web, I don't know enough to make that comparison. JAWS is somewhat more configurable, with more settings. But NVDA is a very viable program now, and if you do not need JAWS for work, NVDA may well meet your needs. It is free, but they always ask their users for optional contributions of money.

Also, here is some information about Picture Smart in case others have problems with it: To use Picture Smart, the "submit annonymous usage data" option must be enabled in Settings Center. This sends encrypted information to Freedom Scientific. The images from Picture Smart are then submitted to the various services (such as Microsoft and Google) which analyze the images and returns the descriptions back to us. These descriptions are then displayed in the Results Viewer. If you attempt to use Picture Smart and this setting is off, a message displays prompting you to turn it on. Note: Picture Smart is currently only available while in the English Language UI of JAWS and Fusion as the services that perform the image analysis do not currently support international languages for descriptions of images. For users of localized versions of JAWS running in versions of Windows other than English, you must switch the JAWS UI language to English to try out this feature. We plan to make Picture Smart available in more languages in the future as these services continue to expand to include additional languages. I wouldn't depend on JAWS to properly be able to control your scanner if I were you since it's not specifically made for such things. Sure the option is there but I'd wager it doesn't work nearly as well as a specialized program. Just scan it using a program that's really meant to scan stuff and you can then run Picture Smart on the file by activating the context menu on it in File Explorer.
