Hi Tim,

Application mode is when you are in a edit field or another type of
application. If you double tap the PC cursor twice rapidly it will pop
you out of it and back into your regular functions. If you need to go
back into the application mode hit enter on the field.

Vaughn

Hello,

You may know this already, but there is very little you will be able to do with JAWS 7 in association with any reasonably current software, like Microsoft Office or any of the popular web browsers.Regards,

For me what seems to work is pressing tab, then arrow to the group you want, e.g. Most recently used, Smiley faces and animals etc.

Now I press enter and Jaws actually says “Emoji panel is open. Smiley faces and animals selected. Selected contain 8 items. Keep typing to find an emoji”

Now if I press Shift + Tab I get into the actual list of emojis and I can right arrow, down arrow and so on. But if you know what you want starting to type something like “grin” will bring up all emojis like “Grinning Face”, “Grinning Face with wide open eyes” etc.

I'm playing with it now, in Notepad.

I noticed that after issuing the command, hitting space will bring up the panel quickly.

If I close the panel with     ESCAPE, and then issue the command it comes up but closed. Hitting space will open it.

I'm still floundering about trying to consistently get into a list of the emoji symbol for smiley faces.

Tabbing will get me to the list of groups, arrow right goes through the groups such as:

Most Recently Used and smiley faces.

But, how to open or get into the group list of Smiley Faces?

Just once did I land in a list of smiley faces but I don't know what I did.

Hi Peter,

You didn’t say which screenreader you use, but if you use Jaws then for me also Jaws says nothing about the emoji panel opening, but it opens nonetheless and if I press right arrow or down arrow Jaws will announce whichever emoji you might be on.

I am on the Jaws Beta list and I will file a bug report, I also feel Jaws should say “Emoji Panel” or something like this to indicate it is open.

Brian, there seems to be very little delay for me, I will have to ask a sighted person to watch, but if I press Windows + Period and immediately press enter as fast as I can the 😊emoji is already inserted.

Interestingly enough just now Jaws is telling me “Emoji panel is closed” when I press Windows + Period, but when I arrow around I hear emojis and I can insert them by pressing enter. There is obviously something strange going on how Jaws gets information there, but like I said, I’ll file a bug report.

Regards,

Sieghard

It can be slow to appear after the keyboard shortcut is issued.  And that's even when there's not a screen reader involved.  I have no idea why this is.

Hi,

I thought that it was either:

  Windows plus dot

or

  Windows plus semicolon.

But then, I have just started using Windows 10 v1903. Maybe there's a change.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

The next question is are you using a utility such as CCleaner, BleachBit, System Ninja, or the like that cleans browser cache and cookies?

Login states for individual websites are cookie managed, and I'm taking that as being the issue you're talking about: having to log in again after exiting and restarting Chrome. If it is instead about having form information for login
id/password stored by the browser, then open Chrome settings, go to the Autofill section, Passwords item then open it and see if the toggle for Offer to save passwords is ON. Also check, regardless of the state of that toggle, whether
the one immediately after it, Auto Sign-In, is toggled ON. If it isn't, you will always be asked to log in again, even if you have stored login and password credentials.

And with further tinkering I find you must use Enter to select a category when your traversing the category choices.

Hitting spacebar, whether a screen reader is active or not, triggers an emoji search that comes up empty.  So use Enter when you want to shift the category/collection.

Hi,

I find that if you let the ad run for about ten seconds, then the B method will work.  The Skip ad button doesn’t come up at the beginning of ads, so you have to watch a bit of them.

All the best

Today, several minutes into an 18 minute ad and being unable to find the Skip Ads button, I cornered a sighted coworker who easily found what they described as a Skip Ads popup button that was over the Play button area. This never announced as I tabbed and arrowed through the YouTube screen.

Is there a way or ways to consistently find YouTube Skip Ads buttons?

Oops, I forgot to mention that once you're on the category you want to bring up, you do have to hit Enter (spacebar would probably work, too - you're just activating the category) before you hit SHIFT+TAB to get back into the actual collection of emojis.

If, immediately after bringing up the Emoji panel, you hit TAB, you will be thrown to the "control line" where you can choose the category of emojis you wish to review. The default being "most recently used".  Arrow to the right and you'll land on the Smiley Faces category.  Hit SHIFT+Tab and you're back in the actual selection section where you can left/right/up/down arrow among the emoji being shown.

There are categories other than smiley faces, and if you right arrow over you'll hear all of them until you hit the last one.  I didn't test to see whether you stop at the last one or it circles back to "most recently used".

I was trying to bring up the emoji panel in a Thunderbird new message body and Notepad.

Now I know that it works but only sometimes.

What Chrome Extensions do you have installed? It sounds like some sort of privacy related extension is deleting all your cookies upon exiting Chrome, and Chrome does not support this by default. Either that, or you're firing up
Chrome in incognito mode (which takes some very intentional doing) in which case nothing is preserved when the incognito session is closed.
