Dear listers, on Windows 10, I encounter a strange problem in Jaws
cursor mode with all web browsers. that while it reads properly
through arrow keys, it just says: "space", if I would like to move
word by word or character by character to move and click an element or
a word to read. So I am literally unable to grabb anything clickable
or any word to locate in Jaws cursor mode.
I have tested through various Jaws versions from April 2019 down to
2018, but it gives the same result.
I use a Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 P20W-C laptop with all the drivers

Any tip or help greatly appreciated.

Hello, everyone.

My e-mail header fields have disappeared again, in that they are now no longer able to be accessed via the alt 1, 2, 3, and 4 commands.

I used to be able to re-instate the fields via the following instructions, but these instructions no longer seem to work.

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019, and the Office 365 version of Outlook 2016 on this Windows 10 computer.

Thanks for any help.

Instructions for restoring fields in an e-mail message if they disappear

If e-mail message fields disappear, and are not able to be accessed with the alt 1, 2, 3, or 4 commands, you must turn off features coming soon.

To do this, put focus on your in-box, and then hit the alt key to get to the home menu.

Then, arrow left once or twice, and you should get to the check box to turn this function on or off.

If it says “turn features coming soon off”, you know it’s on.  Just un-check the box, and you should be ok.

Note:  You will have to re-start Outlook and possibly even your computer for the change to take effect.

  1. In Word, go into Quick Settings with Insert V.
  2. In the search box, type in the word “level.”
  3. Down arrow to outline level indication level, uncheck it, tab to the OK button and space bar.

It should now stop reading this.

For those having issues with Jaws reading levels egg: level 1, level 0, the fix is as such. This was the fix for my problem.

You can now configure whether or not levels are announced when navigating Word documents or Outlook emails, such as when moving in and out of lists.

To toggle this feature, open Quick Settings (INSERT+V) and arrow down to "Outline Level Indication." Press the space bar to un-check this box. Tab to OK and hit enter.

It is definitely a fact that in Windows 10 the Jaws cursor cannot read nearly as much information as in Windows 7. What the John’s cursor can do I don’t know because I haven’t figured out how to activate it 🤣

Dan is also correct in saying that Vispero is working on a major change regarding how Jaws gets information from Windows and that in theory this will restore some of the old Jaws cursor functionality.

In the meantime don’t forget that in Windows 10 the touch cursor can also be very useful, if you don’t know what it is or how to use it please activate Help > Jaws Help Topics and find the entry about Jaws cursors. The name implies that it is used with a touch screen and that is true, but it can be activated from the keyboard and be useful even if your computer doesn’t even have a touch screen capable display.

Sieghard

I am not sure of the solution, but this is a typical John’s Kurtzer response. As windows has advanced and technology increased the John’s cursor has become less useful. I understand that Freedom Scientific is working on that and hopes to have major changes soon.

I use a Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 P20W-C laptop with all the drivers
and firmwares up to date.

Any tip or help greatly appreciated.

  1. In Word, go into Quick Settings with Insert V.

  2. In the search box, type in the word “level.”

  3. Down arrow to outline level indication level, uncheck it, tab to the OK button and space bar.

It should now stop reading this.

firefox will hang for about 30 seconds every time i open the bookmark list with control i orcontrol b.
the only way i have reduced this is to turn the virtual pc cursor off before i open the bookmark list. then jaws will continue to run. i don't get this behavior with the bookmarks when useing narrator

Subject: JAWS stops speaking

Hi all,

I'm running JAWS 2018 on a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10. This is one of two identical machines I have for work.

The machine used to work fine. However, JAWS now stops speaking after around 5 or 10 minutes of use. It is apparently still running, there are no errors and the laptop continues to function in all other respects.

If I close JAWS and reload it, it speaks again until it stops after another 5 or 10 minutes.

I have restarted several times but this hasn't fixed the problem.

The issue does not occur on the other machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Many thanks,

Ed

Moderated problem with crome and staying loggin in

John Covici

Hi. I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix a problem I am having
with crome which I just started using. I am using Jaws 2019 latest
update. With crome latest official version, it won't allow me to stay
logged in to various sites like slack, various forums, or whatever. I
made sure that under the settings that sites are allowed to read and
write cooky data -- at least the button says pressed when I go to it,
but it does not work at all, so I am wondering how it is working for
others and am I doing something wrong, or is there another setting I
need?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: goldwave scripts not working properly

Mario

Richard, thanks for the scripts. I have copied all of the files into

"C:\ProgramData\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2018\Scripts\enu"

after starting Goldwave and opening a file, I tried to select a preset
(of any effect) by arrowing down, and is selecting the preset but it is
not being spoken unless I unload/reload JAWS as Dennis suggested. but
doing so appears to break access to expected features of having scripts
for Goldwave such as the insert+h which should call up a listing of
helpful Goldwave shortcuts. instead, I get helpful Windows shortcuts.
