Hello

I use chrome version 74.0.3729.169 64 bit and there, websites could give somme messages on my computer with windows10.

This messages are spoken by jaws just as popup.

It would be nice if I could activate that popup to go directly to the message so I can answer from there.

Any idea how I can activate this chat-window?

Many thx for any answer.

Not sure on that.  Just may be to a point where it is no longer able to recover anything.

Even if it says not available, I would try hitting on the button and see if anything happens.

Otherwise, if this message is important, your next step is to call Microsoft accessibility line at 800-936-5900 and see if they can help.

John, I followed your instructions. When I got down to recover items it says unavailable. Is this because I may have archive turned off?

Hello, I’m using windows10, Outlook2016 and Jaws2018/19. I accendently deleted an email from my inbox. Is it possible to bring back the email? It isn’t in my delete folder as I have it setup to  delete emails from the delete folder when I exit Outlook. I’m pretty sure I’m out of luck. It could be in the back up of the outlook files. Is there a way to get the email from the backup? Thanks, Kevin

Sharon Ballantyne

Hi there.

I am using Windows 10 and JAWS 19. I am teaching a Masters of Ed. Course
attempting to use Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. It is not pretty from an
accessibility standpoint in my experience. I have four weeks left of a
twelve week semester. I am a person who is totally blind. Alt m will turn
your microphone on and off. I do find however it sometimes will not
consistently perform the action. Usually JAWS will state whether it is
toggling the microphone on or off. If it just says alt M and not the
extended information it has not performed the action. I have the grad
students doing a lot of different presentations and thus I do use hand up
and down. This is accomplished by alt h toggle. Usually the screen is
sharing PowerPoint so I don't usually use the camera, except maybe at the
beginning of class and on the first day of class, but that toggle is alt c.

If JAWS is focused in the chat bar to input information, I no longer hear
what is being typed in the chat box by students. I just get the "pop" sound
to notify me someone posted. Thus you don't want to leave focus on the chat
bar and then you hear everyone's postings.

I keep my system set at moderator status. Students are given presenter
status as needed and a few times I have sent them the guest link for
moderator status.

This was a bit of a last minute request to teach this class so I did not
have time to play around so much and I have not taught using Blackboard and
Moodle before. In that regard, we decided it was most realistic that instead
of me frustrating myself to no end and not getting things to work, we are
co-teaching this course and my colleague is navigating the tech as we
troubleshoot through. It is quite robust and we use the break-out rooms a
lot. Recording the class is easy. There is a great timer option. Breakout
groups can be done randomly or manually. A shortfall is if students are in
breakout rooms, their whiteboards do not get transferred back to the main
room. We added in using OneNote to facilitate this ease of transfer.
Students had been copying their group charts into Word and pasting them in
the main room white board but we are finding OneNote preferable.
Prior to leaving the class, I would encourage you to go through the entire
chat bar/white board and copy all the input from students and keep it for
your records. I just put it in a word doc. It is all time stamped and
students named, so you can really get a better overview of student
participation using that format. Lots of the students also use microphone
and participate by audio. This is captured only on the class recording
though.

I am not sure if that helps.

You can reach me privately contacting sharon.ballantyne@gmail.com

Blackboard does not play nicely with Internet Explorer. My student used google Chrome with it, although I understand Firefox works well also.

List Rules

When:
Saturday, 1 June 2019
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-04:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

Jerry Berrier <jerry.berrier@...>

This really requires more than can be given in an e-mail, but here are a few things.

Once you have Drive open:

Jaws key-z to turn off the virtual cursor. It will turn back on every time you go to a different window, so you always need to remember to keep turning it off.

Once it is off.

gn puts you in navigation mode, and then you can use the arrow keys to find files and folders.

Gl puts you in files mode, so you can arrow up and down through the files in the current folder.

Enter on a file to open it.

This barely scratches the surface.  I recommend you find one of the many tutorials available for JAWS users online to learn the Google products.

it says "Program Name Not Responding". I say Program Name because it
occurs in all programs; Windows Explorer, FireFox, WinAmp, etc.

Thanks.

moderated How to get Jaws 2019 to read table headers in Access 2016?

Russell Solowoniuk

Hi all,

I'm using Access 2016 as part of Office 365 at work with Jaws 2019 on a Windows 10 machine. I'm updating our inventory in an inventory database that I created. As I navigate through my inventory table, Jaws is not reading the column headers, so I am not certain I am in the correct field. I know that Jaws used to read the column headers, but can't seem to find a setting to turn this feature on. NVDA reads the column headers, but I'd prefer to use Jaws if possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Russell
