Can I get a download progress dialog with JAWS in Firefox?

Richard B. McDonald

Hi!

I am using Windows 7, Jaws 2019 and Firefox - all with the latest updates.  In firefox, I already have installed the plug-in that makes a sound when a download is *completed*.  However, I wish I could have some sort of a progress announcement dialog *as the download is happening* too.  Can that be done?

Thanks,

Richard

Re: Please help me learn how to paste scripts into JAWS 19 on Windows 10

its pretty much simple. do the following:
1. press windows+r to open up the run dialogue box and type there exactly:
%appdata%
2. file explorer will open browse to:
freedomscientific\jaws\jawsVersion(e.g2019)\settings\language(e.g enu)
3. paste there.
note: for current user account only.

Re: Please help me learn how to paste scripts into JAWS 19 on Windows 10

Scripts go here:

%AppData%\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\xxx\Settings\lll

You can start by copying all the files belonging to the script(s) to the clipboard in the usual way, then open the Run dialog with Windows Key plus R, type appdata, and press ENTER. After that, just choose the cited directories as you go, and paste your script(s) in the language-specific directory. Close the windows when you're done with them.

where 'xxx' is the version of JAWS in which you want to use the scripts, and 'lll' is your local language designation, e.g., enu.

Been that way forever, regardless of Windows version.

I have downloaded and extracted some scripts for JAWS. I haven’t done this on Windows 10 before, and my memory from Windows 7 is either failing me or it is different in Windows 10 than it was in Windows 7.

How do I get to the place to paste the scripts? A step by step would be most appreciated.

I should have been clearer.  Someone may be really qualified to do a job but if they don’t come across by the way they act or dress, it means nothing.

How you come across to the public means a lot. Would you hire someone to take out your garbage if they came wearing a suit?  Likewise, if you hired a limo to take you to a high society event and the driver came with apparel that looked like it had been slept in or dragged through the mud as well as the limo filthy, would you want to utilize that service? There is a face book group for word press users and the moderator offers to help people with issues.  Keep in mind he does this for a price and, for me , personally when he responded to my request, his spelling and grammar was less then satisfactory.  Thus, I thought if he puts the same amount of effort into building a website using word press as he does writing correspondence, I am not sure his work would be up to par and worth the money he would charge.  .

Hi Jed,

Yes, I was getting that behavior yesterday.

But now when I click on Dropbox, it launches the app where you can
tab around and do the normal things.

But yes, it does appear the Dropbox sub-menu has been removed. Or so
it seems to me.

My question is are there any new features that we should know about? Also can I use this version with an older version of jaws? Thank you for any information that you might have concerning my questions!

No issues here whatsoever with 1903 using Jaws 2019 and the Office 365 versions of Word and Outlook. I usually use Jaws Key + Left and Right Arrow to move by word, but switching to Control + Left and Right Arrow is perfectly responsive.

Can’t speak for Thunderbird since I have Office 365 hence I use Outlook.

Hello listers,

I upgraded my computer yesterday to windows 10 1903 and everything seems to work OK, especially with jaws, except when I move word by word on either word or thunderbird.

I’m moving with control plus right errow or left errow, and jaws sluggishly verbalize the words, and sometimes it doesn’t verbalize the words at all.

I’m using latest jaws 2019 and office 2016-365.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I do it from within a movie or show. As an example, The Crown has audio description.

Turn the virtual cursor off and tab through the video screen (not the selection one!) until you hear audio and subtitles.

Press space on it.

Tab until it says something like English audio description, and press space again.

This, in theory, should turn it on for everything with audio description, but sometimes Netflix mysteriously turns it off.
