Re: slowing a particular audio clip down using Windows media Player

Hi, Michael. To change the speed of a clip in Windows Media,

1. Open the clip in Windows Media.

2. Press Applications key, or SHIFT plus F10, and arrow down to Enhancements, and press ENTER.

3. Arrow down to Play speed, and press ENTER.

4. SHIFT plus TAB to the Snap speed slider, and slide it to where you desire. The music may stop.

5. Find and press the close button.

6. Press the Stop Button.

7. Press the Play Again button to start the clip at the new speed.

With this program, you use your alt and application buttons to open menus.  The Jaws cursor is also used a lot.  I use that program as well as Sam Broadcast, but an earlier version.

Re: Virus Software

There really isn’t anything to keep up with manually, Windows Defender just runs in the background and unless I get any sort of specific thread warning which hasn’t happened in more years than I can remember I never even go in there and it updates itself just fine automatically.

MS Security Esentials or Windows Defender that comes with Windows 10 works just fine with JAWS.  While the scan is running, you will need to use the JAWS curser to read the status of the scan.  Just make sure to keep up with the definitions updates.

Re: ExCell will not read current cell

Marty Hutchings

I am using older versions of Excel and JAWS and have ocasionally hit this situation and I found that I cannot edit a cell if it is not on the screen.  With large spread sheets with lots of rows, JAWS reads rows that are not on the screen and you will not be able to edit them if they are not visible.  Try routing the JAWS curser to the PC curser when the PC curser is in the cell that you are trying to edit.  If you can read the cell contents with the JAWS curser, then Route the PC curser to the JAWS curser when it is in the cell to be edited by hitting Insert and pressing the numpad +.  You should then be able to edit the cell contents by pressing F2 to enter edit mode.

Update On Distorted Jaws Speech Problem

Tom Behler

Hello, again, everyone.

After several tries and about an hour on the phone with Microsoft Accessibility, we finally got a new realtech driver installed that pretty much solved my Jaws speech distortion problem again.

Things are not perfect, and still a bit quirky when it comes to plugging in my headphones, but at least I’m basically back in business again.

I want to thank everyone on the list for tolerating my various e-mails on the topic.

If anyone has some thoughts on what we might be able to do to effectively highlight what clearly seems to be a problem relating to Microsoft sound card driver updates, please let us know.  I’m told that this is a known Windows 10 issue.

Hi all,

Thank you for the help.

With regard to dialog boxes, for instance the pop up that says "do you
want to save your changes" is a system pop up that is not editable, but
may still wished to be spelled if the listener could not make out what
JAWS has said.

Thank you all for the help with the rest.  I'm pretty new to all this so
your help is appreciated.

Clare

#group emails

It would be helpful to specify which screen reader you are referring to
since we have both Jaws and NVDA users on the list. Thanks Randy

when done, just press escape to return to the dialog.

Hello, listers.
I do apologize for this question because I think it is not on subject.
But, dcan anyone navigate me through the Credit Karma "overview" page
so I can tell what my credit score really is? There are numbers on
this page, including graphic numbers and I cannot tell exactly the
number of my credit score. Thanks for any help I can get.

Hi, Rick. 2010 Is getting old for Office. Have you tried Office 365? If you aren't interested I will remove the license I sent you. but if you want to give it a try and see if your issues go away let me know and I will leave it for a few more days.

Hi all,

Just noticed that when in Microsoft ExCell, as I add information into a cell, then try to read what I have entered, Jaws not reading. If I attempt to back-space to delete what I know I’ve entered incorrectly, again, Jaws will not read what is being deleted. Any fixes out there with Windows 10, Office 2010 and latest Jaws 2019 version/update? If I move out of the cell and then back into the cell at question, it will then read and only at this time.

Sorry if I am repeating any problems previously submitted…

Have you tried hitting the F2 key to allow editing?

I'm using Excel 2016, but do you have allow Editing Directly In Cells checked under File, Options, Advanced?
