Re: Distorted Jaws Speech After Dell Update

Hi Tom. If you know what type of sound card you have in your computer, you can update the drivers for that particular card. Windows 0 is bad about changing the drivers to generic ones. I had this happen to me just yesterday, and when I updated the drivers, things worked better for me.

Hello, everyone.
I just did a Dell update to my Windows 10 laptop, and now my Jaws speech sounds rather tinny and is very distorted.

Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?

Re: Sage 50
Absolutely, I had a lengthy Skype call with Ted a while ago about Quickbooks Online where he directed me to a demo site to get a feel for it, but while they are working hard to make Quickbooks Online more and more accessible I can still do my entries in Sage 50 10 times as fast. I really would like to switch, but I own a retail business and after my bookkeeper who came usually twice a week for 4 or 5 hours retired quite a few years ago now I decided I would do this myself and I am dealing with a pretty high volume of transactions. What I do is quite limited since I don’t use my accounting software for customers and to keep track of individual sales and inventory, my point of sale system does that, but I still have to enter a lot of supplier invoices and process payments either by printing cheques or recording credit card or email money transfer payments and two or three times a week I enter the sales into the accounting system using a so-called zReport which my point of sale system [prpoduces and which gives me a summary of sales, returns, layaway and on account payments, the amounts of what was received by Visa, Mastercard, Debit Card, American Express, Cash, Cheque, gift certificates and all that. In any case, Ted suggested I could use the iOS app which is very accessible, but in some cases there is a bit of typing involved when I enter the ddetails of invoices for products we receive and we all know how efficient typing on an iOS device is compared to typing on a PC with a keyboard. All in all for me Sage 50 currently still is the better and more efficient solution although I have few doubts I will switch to Quickbooks at some point in the next year or two.

To me it is very accessible, but I know Sage 50 like the back of my hand because I have been using it and its previous version, Simply Accounting, for well over 20 years. There are things you have to do with the Jaws cursor, sometimes the touch cursor and under Windows 10 you are generally better off not to use the traditional accessibility display driver which is still the default. The new so-called “GDI Hooking” method reads more in Sage, for example, if I lookup a transaction I entered in the purchases journal or bring up a trial balance or vendor aged report then I can read this information with the Jaws cursor if I don’t use the accessibility display driver, if I use it the Jaws cursor only reads blank. You can of course get around this as well by bringing up the report and then press Alt + F followed by “O” which is the command to “Open in Excel”. It will ask you to save the file, but once you do Excel opens and loads whichever report you have on the screen. If I have to really do a lot of detailed checking of data and maybe search for something this is my preferred method. Also, the main screen of Sage does not read at all, this is where you select if you want to use the General Journal, Bank Reconciliation, the Purchases or Payments modules/journals etc. I know that if I open Sage I have to tab 5 times for the general journal, 6 times for bank reconciliation, 7 times for the Suppliers list, 8 times for purchases and 9 times for payments. Somebody who wasn’t as familiar with the program and who tried to use it for the first time would probably be very frustrated and conclude that it is largely inaccessible. I haven’t upgraded because I was sick and tired of paying them hundreds of Dollars every year for their so-called support which I never use and to get a new version which essentially was no different than the previous one. I also used to use their payroll module and during that time I had no choice because my annual payment also included the updates to the tax tables for Canada and so on. But for some years now I use a payroll service called Payworks where all we have to do is log in and enter each employees hours and they do the rest. A few days later (I do payroll every 2 weeks) the wages are auto-deposited into each employees bank account, Payworks does the monthly payments to the government for employment insurance, Canada Pension Plan and the income tax deductions and if an employee quits they file the Record of Employment and all that. I am a member of the Canadian Federation for Independent Business and as such I get a pretty big discount for this service, it only costs I think $11.95 per pay period (26 per year) and 99 Cents per employee for the auto deposit etc. If you need a comprehensive accounting solution and are not invested in one yet I would absolutely recommend Quickbooks. They have an accessibility department and have done a lot to make their online solution which works via a monthly subscription accessible. If you want to use their desktop version you do have to pay for scripts which some company developed. Intuit also sponsors Aira so if you use their software or service you can call Aira for free to get help with anything. The person you want to contact about accessibility is Ted Drake:

Check if you got this option check or tick or not. When replying to a message that is not in the Inbox, save the reply in the same folder If you did, it will sort with the same conversation like in a normal gmail, if you delete it, it will be gone.
I am not using the latest outlook despite I am on office365 but you can give it a try. Alternatively, you might be using gmail in imap mode, so you are just deleting the all mail side of things. I would suggest, create a mail rules with any mails you cc a copy to yourself to have a copy to a specific folder.. that will allow you to have a copy always.

Recently, I have noticed that if I delete the received message copy from my inbox, it is also deleted from my sent file.
Is there a way I can configure Outlook so that the message remains in my sent file, even though it has been deleted from my inbox?
I’m using the Office 365 version of Outlook 2016 with Windows 10 and the latest build of Jaws 2019.
Thank you!

Re: Question On Outlook Message Deletion

Thomas:
I checked the “save the reply in the same folder” option, and that did not help with my problem.
In other words, as soon as I deleted the message from my inbox, it was deleted from my sent file as well.
And, just to clarify, my Outlook is configured to use g-mail in imap mode.

I would suggest, create a mail rules with any mails you cc a copy to yourself to have a copy to a specific folder.. that will allow you to have a copy always.

outlook folders.
shankar.c@...
Dear all, greetings. Hope all are doing grate. As the subject line says, I having some confusions on the folders on outlook. Let me try to explain my problems. Actually, I have configured the 2 accounts on my outlook. One is office mails and another 1 is my personal account. Now, the issue is, some times, when ever I am getting the new mail to my personal account, the same copy of the mail is also getting displayed on the office mail inbox folder. Also, I have subscribed for couple of mailing lists and willing to segregate the mails on different folders. This may bee off topic, but, possible, can some 1 help me to complete this task asap.

Re: jaws ocr voice
Bill White
Hi, Juan. To change the OCR voice (which is an alias),
1. Press JAWS key plus six on the numbers row (not the NumPad) to open JAWS Settings Center. 2. Load the default JAWS configuration file by pressing CONTROL plus SHIFT plus the letter D. 3. Arrow down to Voice Aliases, and press Right Arrow to open. 4. Arrow down to Customize Voice Aliases, and press SPACE to open. 5. Arrow down to OCR Voice Rocko. 6. TAB twice to modify, and press SPACE. 7. Modify pitch and speed as desired.
Remember, though, that if you make the pitch and speed too much like the default Eloquence voice, you won’t know if you move out of the OCR back into the regular screen windows.

Re: Excel not speaking the first digit when a number is entered
Tanguy LOHEAC
Hello this rather makes think about something related to unusual view mode where Jaws is lost. It is like the main sheet window is too small. Theb try the following: Press Windows key+Up arrow to maximize Excel main window. If that doesn't fix the issue then: Press Insertion+numpad Minus to bring the Jaws cursor to your sheet, then with arrow keys, place it to the title of your document on the top and press numpad slash twice in order to emulate double-click. This would expand the window of current sheet.
cheers Tanguy

Wow, I haven't seen any of this behavior in Excel. There are certainly configuration differences with whether users have JAWS set to read contents, cell coordinates, or both, but this is different. My jaws 2019 stopped working when I restarted my computer today. I get a message on startup that says, jfw.exe entry point not found. I can only hit ok.
Repairing and reinstalling fail quickly. Jaws 2018 runs, as well as NVDA and narrator. Has anyone seen this error message before? I am waiting on a tech support call back from FS. Randy Meyer

Thanks, Robin.
I’ll continue to work on the issue and will likely end up calling Microsoft Accessibility Support.

Tom, You can specify conversation mode by folder. For example, I have all my JAWS list emails come into one folder which is set to conversation mode so that I can more quickly sift through topics I am interested in. If I am in my inbox, the view ribbon shows conversation mode as unchecked. If I am in my JAWS folder, the view ribbon shows conversation mode as checked. Even in my JAWS folder, I do not get the same experience that Sieghard mentioned; if I send n email to the JAWS list, such as this one, I will see it come through on the list, but I do not see the copy that went into my sent mail.
I really do think you’ll have to have Microsoft look at what is going on if you continue to have this problem. I’ve used Outlook for years and just not seen what you are experiencing.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Tom Behler
Bill:
You’re right. … I absolutely don’t want my messages in conversational view, and it seems that conversational view does not happen in my inbox. In other words, I can delete individual messages from the inbox with no problem.
In fact, as I just replied, “show as conversations” is un-checked, which is the way I want things to be.
This is why I don’t understand why carbon copies of my messages in my inbox also get deleted from my sent file when I delete them from the inbox.
This has just started to happen relatively recently, so something in Outlook has changed.

Hi, Tom. Have you considered not having your messages grouped into conversations at all? This is the way I use Outlook, and I never have messages deleted unintentionally due to complete conversations being deleted.

This does not seem to work for me here.
I’m using Outlook 2016 in Office 365, Windows 10 version 1809, and the latest build of Jaws 2019.
Can you give me step-by-step directions for configuring Outlook to delete individual messages, rather than the entire conversation?
Once again, my problem is that when I delete my copy of a message I sent from the inbox, it gets deleted from my sent file as well.

Hi Tom,
As soon as you reply to a message it should be treated as a conversation and of course the same applies if the other person sends another reply or message. If I reply to a message and then right arrow I can then up arrow and even though I am in the Inbox I then see the message I sent which is located in the Sent Items folder.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Tom Behler
Sieghard:
I think you are correct here.
My question is when and how do I use the right arrow key to expand the conversation?
I haven’t been able to find this option, at least so far.
Tom Behler
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tom,
I think what is happening here is that when you delete the message which you sent to yourself you are basically deleting the conversation and the conversation includes the message in your Sent Items folder. Next time try to press the right arrow first to expand the conversation and then only delete the message you received and see if the sent message remains in the Sent Items folder.
