help, all of a sudden, win amps won't play wav files any more.

Jim Rawls

Hi all, I don’t know what I did to change things. Just for the last day, wav files won’t  play in win amps. What do I do to fix this? I thought there was a way to select file types in win amps, but I see a list that says file types, but when I try to select any file type, nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Jim

hello Rob. I purchased the tutorial on how to use NVDA and Excel. I know this is the Jaws list, but I found the tutorial to be extremely helpful just to learn the basic commands and to learn how to navigate Excel itself.
If you can't find the link, let me know and I'll dig it up.

Hello List,

There are two ways to use the Jaws OCR to convert an image PDF file.

I have noticed a change when trying one way, the other still works.

I recently had to switch to a new hard disk. This meant I had to download and install: Windows 10 version 1809, the latest Jaws 2019 and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC v19.10.200.

Before this complete upgrade, I could open a PDF image file either as a Thunderbird attachment or by pressing ENTER on the PDF file in the directory tree. There was then a Yes/No prompt for Jaws to do the OCR of the document.

Now, there is no “alert empty document” message nor is there the prompt to do the OCR.

I get the Virtual cursor. It is a blank window but the Jaws plus page-down command gives: Start free trial.

When I turn off the Virtual cursor and start the OCR with

Jaws plus space bar then o.

Pressing “d” (for a document), I get: OCR failed to start.

Pressing “w” (for a window), gives me the OCR converted text.

The PDF document is converted but,

On the right of some lines are these statements:

   Create PDF

   Edit PDF

   With Acrobat Pro DC

   Start free trial

The second way to convert PDF to text, still works. Highlight the PDF file in the directory tree or File Explorer,

the applications key has:    select “convenient OCR with Jaws”.

When I do an OCR of the window, the PDF and Pro DC message share the window. This seems to prevent Jaws from converting the PDF document.

How do I get rid of the start free trial with Acrobat Pro DC?

Thanks,

Peter T.

Hi,

I need to brush up on Excel: getting around, saying the active sheet name list of short cuts and VB script manager navigation/shortcuts.

I’ve gone over JAWS help of course but am looking for something more in depth.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

The backblaze website updates every day or two, so far as I know, and not every minute or even every hour.

You also need to keep your pc turned on and make sure it doesn't go to sleep.

Re: Enable Editing button in a protected spread sheet

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

What you described and were looking for is not strictly speaking the button to unprotect a spreadsheet which was protected. A spreadsheet can be protected or certain cells can be protected with or without a password and that is the option which was described under the Home tab.

What you were looking for, the Enable Editing, is simply a way to safeguard against potential issues which can arise from spreadsheets you get via email, you can also enable editing by pressing F12 and saving them first, this will prompt you to enable saving and after doing that you can also edit the spreadsheet.

Hi,
No, I never had an external hard-drive connected to my pc.
I did restore my iphone last night, so maybe it thought the phone was an external hard-drive?
Thanks,
Jessica

Re: Please Write JAWS Scripts For Medisoft billing software And, Medisoft Clinical Software by MICROWISE

David & his pack of dogs

You did write this before. I'm not sure what exactly is behind wanting
scripts written for, what appears to be nothing. The fact is, nothing or few
things in this world are free. Even applying for government grants to get
assistive aids such as JAWS, you have to put forth the effort to write up
the request in the proper language.

I think I replied to your message before, but I don't think anybody is going
to write scripts for these applications for free. There are people and
businesses out there who make a living writing scripts and often this
involves dozens and potentially hundreds of hours of work. If you want to
explore whether these applications can be made accessible with scripts, you
will have to contact one of these companies, but even an evaluation may not
be free, I once contacted somebody about scripts for my point of sale
software for my retail business and I was told an evaluation would probably
be around $2,000 and finished scripts could easily run $10,000 to $15,000.

Sieghard

Re: Now, sometimes I cannot convert to OCR an image PDF document

Chris Hill

Well, this sounds like the same problem I had a while back after an upgrade of either jaws or adobe.  Go into preferences in adobe, to enhanced security and disable theprotected mode at startup.

on 3/31/2019 10:29, Peter Tesar wrote:

Thanks,

Peter T.

They don't have a phone number. They do have about 45000000000000 pages of

documentation online, including prices for drive shipments. As I don't have

exact figures handy just at the moment, you might start at their website.

Hi,

Do they have a phone number?

I didn't know that you were allowed to keep the drive.

What would you do with it, since it has your data on it?

How much does it cost to receive a drive?

Thanks,

Jessica

Dan:

Have you considered posting this quiry to the blind hams list?

I know that a number of people on there are successfully using the logging software you mention with Jaws and Windows 10.

Just a thought.

Hi, Dan. Go to Windows Defender settings> Browser and app control, and make sure that the three settings there are turned to off. This might be what is preventing you from using the logging programs.

Thanks Tom for the response.  I follow those exact steps, but it is when I get to the edit point that I am bounced back to the main page.

This happens with Scott's contest programs as well.  I have not had this problem until switching to windows 10 and a new laptop.

Either anti-virus, security or jaws is clamping down preventing the access to edit.

Thanks again,

When I want to edit a contact in the N3FJP software, I hit control q which takes me to my list of contacts.  I highlight the contact I wish to edit, and then tab over to edit.  Once I’ve done the needed editing, I tab over to done, and the process is complete.

I hope this helps, but if I’m misunderstanding your question, please let me know.

Greetings,
I am having an issue with a logging program for amateur radio.  When i attempt to edit a contact from a previous entry, I am bounced out and dropped to the front page of the logging program.  I have had a sighted person view this activity via remote and states that it appears that Jaws is preventing me from the editing process.  I am also prevented from entering a directory within the logging program.  Have spoken with the logging author and suspects either Jaws or anti-virus as the cause.  If it were an anti-virus issue, I would think that importing and exporting data would be prevented as well, but that piece works just fine.  I am running Jaws 19 and Windows 10.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dan Reid

Hi John,

Try alt +f and then tab to and hit enter on the info button. Tab down to enable editing and hit enter. This should hopefully be the answer to your dilemma.

I am using Windows 10 and Excel 2013.

Can anyone tell me where the Enable Editing button would be on a protected spread sheet?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
I have it set to backup my C & D drives, but according to the iOS app, it’s not making any progress.
What do I do?
Jaws won’t tell me anything either, other than announcing a “pause backup” button.
Are there Jaws scripts for this program? If so, where can I get them?

Hi,

No you do not. It will back up all drives if you do connect one, though. And the drive will need to stay connected for a time if you do want to back it up so it can index and start transferring the files.

hope that helps!

Hi,

Do I have to connect a drive to my computer in order to use backblaze?

Or will it just backup to backblaze itself without a hard-drive?

You can download a zip file of any size for free. It’ll just take longer if it’s a large one, which is why they recommend the hard drive. It’ll let you download a 4 TB zip file, but I wouldn’t want to be the one downloading it.

How big are the zip files you can download for free?

I’m thinking of trying it.
