JAWS 2019 and Amateur Radio Logging Program
DAN REID
Greetings,
I am having an issue with a logging program for amateur radio. When i attempt to edit a contact from a previous entry, I am bounced out and dropped to the front page of the logging program. I have had a sighted person view this activity via remote and states that it appears that Jaws is preventing me from the editing process. I am also prevented from entering a directory within the logging program. Have spoken with the logging author and suspects either Jaws or anti-virus as the cause. If it were an anti-virus issue, I would think that importing and exporting data would be prevented as well, but that piece works just fine. I am running Jaws 19 and Windows 10. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dan Reid

The best approach is NVDA Remote. You just have to leave it on and connected all the time while you're away.

JAWS and Teamviewer?
James Homuth
Has anyone used these two together? Preferably, with the remote access options enabled? I’ll be looking for a new desktop shortly and would like to be able to access it remotely if I’m not home. For example: ducking around certain corporate firewalls. *cough* Is this doable? And, how much of a pain is it? I do have the remote access option already, but unless I feel like installing Windows 10 pro, remote desktop isn’t going to be a thing. Will this work?

Re: reading acrobat
Chris Hill
Hello. I had an issue with jaws and adobe a while back. The documents all looked blank to jaws. I finally had to call fs and they said to look in edit/preferences in adobe, look in the "security enhanced" section, and uncheck the box that said enable protected mode at startup. Hopefully that will fix your problem.

Friends: Windows 10, jaws 2019 latest update, adobe acrobat DC 19.0.
This behavior seems to have started after March update of Jaws 2019.
I can read my credit statement statements downloaded in pdf format only in this way: with Magic also running, I can drop the mouse cursor down over the top of the statement and Jaws starts reading as if say all mode. I can’t stop and restart reading except by starting over as described.
I cannot seem to get Jaws to focus and read anything in any other way. Yes, Magic seems to also have to be running.
This all seems very strange to me.

I wish I could take credit for it but a much wiser, more experienced transcriptionist turned me on to this. I particularly like the "lamp on" noise as a very subtle sound for proofing.

Lee Anne, I love this idea. There are so many cases where words sound the same and I can see how adding the sounds would be useful.

Well, as an example I perform transcription. Sometimes my fingers do not release the letter E quickly enough in the word w e. If it is the first word of a sentence. We and WE both sound the same so I have added a sound to W E so I can hear the difference when proofing.

I have seen this setting in the Dictionary, but am curious as to ideas for when people are using this. So far, the only dictionary entries I have made are when Vocalizer mis-pronounces a word.

Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts

Hi, David. What operating System are you using. Since you didn't specify, I
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
will assume Windows 10. How To Create Shortcuts one thing Windows 10 doesn't provide is a way to create a shortcut to apps so you can launch them from the desktop or elsewhere. Or, at least an obvious way. But as it turns out, all of the applications installed on your PC, including the universal apps that come with Windows 10 or are downloaded from Windows Store are accessible from a hidden shell view called Applications. Once you open this view in File Explorer, you can create shortcuts for any of them. Open the Run dialog (Windows+R=run), type in: shell:AppsFolder and then press enter to view this folder. apps-folder Find an app you wish to create a shortcut for, right-click (applications key, or, shift+f10 and choose Create shortcut from the pop-up menu that appears. You'll be prompted that the shortcut cannot be placed here, and Windows will recommend placing it on the desktop instead. Press enter on Yes. A shortcut with the name App-Name Shortcut (Mail Shortcut) will appear on the desktop. You can leave this as-is, or rename it (I usually remove the word, Shortcut). And you can of course move the shortcut to any folder as needed. Now, just repeat for all the app shortcuts you need. Bill White billwhite92701@dslextreme.com
