Is this picture smart a function of jaws or is it jaws accessing a Windows 10 application?  In other words do you need Jaws to get the results that picture smart provides?

Hi!

I am wondering about the level of accessibility of 1) putting up a blog on
wordpress.com directly versus 2) having Wordpress installed onto a hosted
site and blogging their? To illustrate this difference, in the first case,
the URL would be something like "myblog.wordpress.com." In the second
case,
the URL would be something like "myblog.com." That URL difference does
not,
per say, have anything to do with the accessibility of the website as far
as
using Wordpress to blog. It just illustrates the difference between the
two
approaches. On the one hand, going directly to wordpress.com is free
whereas the hosted site would involve some minor fees; but that is not
critical here. The hosted site (e.g., bluehost.com) is professionally
managed, is itself decently accessible and has great customer service.
And,
the hosted site has "one click" installation of Wordpress scripts and also
keeps that installation constantly up to date. I do like the simplicity of
having a clean URL like myblog.com as I would have with the hosted site,
though. So, the central question here is if there is much of an
accessibility difference between these two different approaches?

Thanks,

Richard

I need a recommendation for a good, robust and hopefully accessible printer.  It must be a multi-function printer (print, copy, scan).  It must be able to handle letter and legal size paper.  It must have an automatic document feeder.  It should be able to print on two sides.  About the accessibility, it is OK if that is accomplished via its software interface.  My very excellent, 15 year-old Canon MFC 6550 is nearing its end, sadly.

How can I copy a CD to my computer using Windows 10?

Lee Maschmeyer

Hi folks,

In Windows 7 and earlier I could use Windows Explorer or Media Player to copy my CDs to my computer using Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. This appears not to work in Windows 10. I like Windows Media Player best. These are CDs I have purchased or copied from my LP's so storing them on my PC is legitimate. Anybody know how I can do this nowadays? I'd prefer not to have to learn a new program but that's an option I guess.

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

Thank you for putting up with me. This did work and now a few more questions.

Does this only work with photos you have within your pc, a jpg file for example? Or will this work on a website, Facebook.com for example, when it does not give alt text for a picture uploaded by Friends?

Thank you again for all your expertise, I really appreciate all of you,

/Rick

Running latest version of Jaws on a win 10 system. I go to file explorer and hightlight a .jpg file of a receipt. I hit insert space bar followed by the letter p and nothing happens to read the image.
What am I doing wrong?

Hello,

I do not post much but I must state that I do gain a lot of useful information by all participating. I thank you for sharing your knowledge. However, this picture recognition new addition to the latest version of Jaws 2019, I am not able to use this for it simply is not working.

I go to windows explorer and make my way to my photos folder.
I arrow down to a photo
I then hit alt +spacebar and then the f key.
I am sent to the menu bar, files icon where you would choose to close, open etc. a new folder or document.

I ask, what do I need to do to activate this properly?

Thank you all,

Rick

Hi Don/all,
You simply need to type the letter f thereafter to start the process of recognition.
Kindest regards,
Takis

Re: How do I move into and out of the header/footer pane in MS Word 2016? - SOLVED

Richard B. McDonald

Hi Heather!

Thanks for your below. Yes, escape gets me out of the header/footer view and back into the main document pane. That was too simple for me 😉 Your method below for getting into the header/footer view is great too. Finally, I found the definitive answer to all of this in Microsoft's posting entitled "Use a screen reader to create headers or footers in Word - Office Support" at the below link.

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/use-a-screen-reader-to-create-headers-or-footers-in-word-7a61ea68-8cf2-48eb-a693-fda2bb7f311f

Thanks again,
Richard

Hi Richard,
To get into the header/footer pane in Word 2016, press the following sequence of keys:
Alt + N to go to the Insert tab of the ribbon.
H for Header.
Then E for Edit header.

To exit Header/Footer view, press Escape.

Hope that helps,
Heather

I tried control+alt+n as suggested below, and also control+F6 as someone else suggested. Neither works. The former changed the document view to "draft" (which such view yielded no resolution) and the latter did nothing.
So, my question remains: How do I move into and out of the header/footer pane in MS Word 2016?

Try ctrl+alt+n.

Well, as I mentioned at first below, F6 does not do it. The alt+v then
h thing works to get me *into* the header/footer pane, but my problem
still remains once there - I cannot get out of it and back into the
document pane.
So, my question persists: how do you move between the header/footer
pane and the document pane?

F6 should do it. I always use alt-v, then h. It is a carry-over from
before the ribbon. To insert a header is alt+n, then h.

Hi!

I am using JAWS 2019 and MS Word 2016 under Windows 7. In a
particular Word document, I went through the ribbons to create a
footer, and ended-up in that pane. But, I got stuck in it and could
not figure out how to move between it and the main document pane. F6
only moved me around virtual ribbons / status bar / footer pane,
never getting back to the main document pane. So, how do you get
into and out of the footer pane?

Thanks,
Richard

Need recommendation for an accessible printer

Richard B. McDonald

Hi!

Thanks,

Richard

It definitely still works in the March update to JAWS 2019. If I press Control+Insert+Slash on the number row, it tells me Drag Object, so it is still working. They ought to have a word with that support person.

All the best

Steve

I think we all need to tell them to unretire it. What a ridiculous thing to
do--remove a very useful and sometimes very necessary feature.

Hi Brian,

It hasn’t been dropped, it still works for me.

I can only imagine that maybe Bill changed the keystroke in keyboard manager?

Which is all too true and all too sad.   There are times, not many, but enough, when drag and drop, either literal or emulated through the keyboard, is the only way to accomplish a given task.

Also, given that this is a fundamental function of any GUI OS, and has been part and parcel of every screen reader I've dealt with, the probability that documentation has gotten screwed up is incredibly higher than the probability of such a basic function ever being dropped (and for the reasons I mentioned).
