Re: Adding alt tags to images?
This article from Adobe,
Adding alternate text to images | Adobe Indesign accessiblity, also makes the point I'm trying to make:"The alt text you entered is included whenever you export this InDesign file as an EPUB, HTML, or PDF document. However, it is not added to the metadata for the image file itself, so you'll need to re-enter it if you use the image in a different document." Alt-text is not a property of the image file metadata itself as a dedicated field, which makes sense since the same image could be used in a hundred different sites where what the designer wants the user to take away from that image is entirely different. Alt-text is a property of the object into which the image is embedded, which allows it to be purpose specific. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Adding alt tags to images?
I know of no way to add alt text to image files themselves in a way that a screen reader picks up on. That sort of alt text is a function of the thing into which the image is embedded, such as a Word Document or webpage.
One can add alt text to image metadata, but screen readers do not look at image metadata to decide what they're going to announce for an image. Re: Adding alt tags to images?
Hi,

The Alt tags I am talking about are what is seen by any decent modern screen reader when browsing images ont he web. I have an image to upload, and I'd like to add an alt tag to it since it only currently has a Jaws label, wich is nice for my local Jaws and computer use, but probably won't help anyone else much on the web. So, would Word be the easiest way for me to add an Alt tag to this image that all oculd read before uploading it? Or would some other tool be better? Thanks for any advice, ~Ann

It might have something to do with your encoding; I do not see these characters normally in Brian's messages, but in the one you quoted below yours, as in, in your response where you have quoted his message, they do appear.

If your keyboard has an fn key--often where the right windows key ought to be, try pressing it along with the volume up and down keys.

I think there is a thing in JAWS called "graphics labeler." JAWS+g is the command, I think. Your cursor needs to be on the graphic. Check out the JAWS help topic on it. if you are in another program, say Word, there is a different way to put an alt tag on an image you have inserted; the applications key.

The other thing to do is more envolved is to try spraying some electrical cleaner on the keyboard controls. Just a thought.

Most of the time it works, but every once in a while it just stops, but yet i can type just fine and all that. It's really annoying cause i'll turn the volume up and down a bit. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Hi all, I have never come to explore the feature, though a long standing jaws user. Just wondering whether it is a featured designed to be of use only to American users, or has any value for us internationals. Cheers from Ioannina, Takis

You must first go into advanced settings, and make sure that you check the check box which allows documents to open in draft view. Then draft view may be made the default in Word.

Thank you for your responses. The draft view works but I’m wondering now whether there’s a way to make it the default view in Word? Again I haven’t been able to locate it in the Word Options settings. Thanks in advance Zel

Accessibility of Minitool Partition Wizard
Annabelle Susan Morison
Hi, it's
Annabelle.
I'm trying out
Minitool Partition Wizard, the only one I know where you can convert MBR to GPT
and vise versa, as well as converting NTFS to FAT, Exfat, and the like, without
formatting the partitions and having to face the possibility of data loss.
However, It only seems like this software is halfway accessible with JAWS. Does
anybody know of a way that it can be made fully accessible? In other words, I
want to be able to point to a hard drive or device in the list using the arrow
keys.
