Re: Jaws 2019 and the latest Adobe acrobat DC

I ran intO that problem last week. The offer isn’t causing the problem, an improper setting in the security enhanced section of preferences is what is causing your problem. I think it is the first checkbox, but I can’t remember. Give it a look and email if you can’t find it and I’ll check it out and refresh my memory.

Jaws 2019 and the latest Adobe acrobat DC
DJ
Hello, It seems that there is some sort of free trial offer popping up each time I try opening a PDF file using Adobe reader DC. Adobe wants me to try the Pro version of Acrobat. There does not seem to be a way to cancel out of this screen, or a way to avoid it completely when Adobe reader launches. Because of this, jaws simply tells me the screen is blank, and I never get to read the PDF files. Has anyone found a workaround for this? If so, would you mind sharing? Thank you ever so much.

Re: Jaws and adobe, adding signature
I can't speak to anything in Adobe Pro. It really is important to do as you've done and identify the exact Adobe product that's being used.
I made the mistake of assuming Reader DC when responding to the original questioner, and this may not be the case. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Hope Williamson <ladyhope@...>
It's up to the various apps to support it. i'm sure that Lyre might look into it if you contact them. Also it probably works well on a phone, since it has a mobile version. I only use web-based RSS readers, so I have absolutely no need for this.

I may give it a spin, but briefly checking, it doesn’t' seem to work with iOS RSS apps. This for me would be a deal breaker since I also use Lire on my iPhone.

Off-Topic: On NVDA Chat forum - Survey evaluation of learning experience in higher education for blind and visually impaired individuals
Hello All,
If you all had a chat forum I would have posted this in it, but since you don't I'm making a rare exception of posting an off-topic message anywhere A graduate student from Eastern Europe has asked to post a survey for those who are blind or visually impaired, and who use (or have used) screen readers in the context of higher education on the NVDA Chat Forum. Since I know how difficult it is to find respondents for niche surveys such as this, I am posting a pointer to it here for those who may be interested in learning more, and perhaps participating: Survey evaluation of learning experience in higher education for blind and visually impaired individuals The survey is being done through surveymonkey, so one need not even join the NVDA Chat group to read the message if you click through on the link above and the link to the actual survey itself is in that message. I will post nothing further regarding this survey. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. The Old reader is web based and thus can be accessed from any machine or browser. www.theoldreader.com You don’t have to worry about losing all your RSS feeds being lost if your machine dies or if somehow the browser gets corrupted or anything like that. For me, The Old Reader has proven to be the best solution and is quite accessible. To each their own, but I’d be reluctant to recommend IE since the browser itself is getting stale and is at the end of its development lifecycle. I doubt it would be a prudent choice to further tie oneself to anything IE related at this point. Also, I did at one time use the IE built in RSS feature and while it was accessible enough, from what I recall, it wasn’t anything special. The Old Reader has free and paid options.

I’m sorry if this is off topic for this list, but I don’t know of any list I’m on, where I could ask this.
I found an app for podcasts, called Pocketcasts, which works quite nicely with jaws2019.
My question is, can you download stuff from a web app?
Can I download episodes, like I can with the ios app? Any info on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

If a shutdown/restart cycle clears them, and is not needed on a very frequent basis, that is my suggested fix. I get "not responding" not infrequently, particularly with web browsers, but sometimes with task manager and file explorer (Windows Explorer in 7 and earlier). If it's really, really frequent, then something's likely amiss with Windows itself and repairs to Windows should be done in an attempt to fix it. -- Brian *-*Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 /* Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong.*/ ~ H.L. Re: outlook 2016 and JAWS 2019, seems to be a new bug
Richard B. McDonald
Hi Sieghard!
Your below is interesting. However, for me when I follow these steps I end up hearing a series of "try" commands. What are those? I do not hear the option button about new features. I wonder if my hearing these "try" commands means that I have the new features option turned-on? Perhaps an alt+u would toggle them off? What do you think?
Thanks, Richard
-----Original Message-----
Hi Steve,
Have you checked if the "Coming Soon" feature in Outlook is turned off? When you are in your Inbox press the Alt key to bring up the ribbon menu, you should be on "Home", now left arrow twice, here is Jaws History:
I press the Alt key and here this: Upper Ribbon, Ribbon, Home Tab, Alt followed by H I press the left arrow once and here this: Leaving menus, File Tab Button, Alt followed by F I press the left arrow a second time and here this: Ribbon Tabs Tab expanded, Turn on features coming soon Button, Alt followed by U
As you can see Alt followed by U is the shortcut, but that will just toggle it and not tell you if it's on or off. If it says " Turn on features coming soon" then it is off and your problem is a different one. But if you hear Turn off features coming soon Button checked" then it is on and you can turn this off by pressing the spacebar. Note that whether you turn it on or off Jaws will focus on an "OK" button and the message which it seems you can only read with the touch cursor is simply this:
You must restart this application for the changes to take effect. OK
So go ahead and press OK, then close Outlook completely, wait a few seconds and reopen it, now try to see if you can read those fields with the shortcut keys. I suggest this should be turned off, if it is on you may get upcoming features which could cause issues like this before Vispero and/or Microsoft has time to make any necessary changes. I certainly also don't have any issues with Alt + 1, Alt + 2 and so on reading the From, To, CC etc. Fields.
Best regards, Sieghard

Re: best version of outlook
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
I don’t know about group conversations, but in my view you will probably get the best results with the subscription version of Outlook which you get if you subscribe to Office 365. Jaws 2019 now separates the scripts for this version of Office which includes Outlook from the so-called retail version which would be the one where you buy Office for a one-time purchase price. The scripts for the subscription version will get the most attention and get updated the most going forward. Keep in mind that it’s a big step from Outlook 2010 to the subscription version, not all of it is good, but as far as I am concerned Office/Outlook 2010 is not something you can use forever so you might as well get used to the new Office. One thing for me which was a big deal and which started with Outlook 2013 was the fact that I can set up my Outlook.com account without first having to download this old Hotmail Connector or whatever it was called. Starting with Outlook 2013 there is native support for Exchange Active Sync so all you have to do if you use an Outlook.com account is to enter your email address and password and it just configures itself, all your emails, contacts and so on sync to the cloud and if you use Outlook on another computer or set up your account in the Mail app on an iPhone it all works seamlessly.

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Alt + U does toggle it as I said, but if you want to check if it's on or not in the first place pressing the Alt key and arrowing left twice will give you that info. I actually think it might be on by default so it's something everybody who uses Office 365 should check since having this on to me is not worth it.
