Due to an injury to the little finger on my right hand, I find pressing keystrokes such as INSERT+CTRL a problem. Not only that, when you press CTRL+F and type a search term on a page, I find that when you press ENTER, to activate the search function, it does not appear to take you to the result, if it finds it! It works well enough, though, for the most part, and I still use it more often than I do Chrome. Mostly because, and I hear rumors it may have improved slightly, Firefox Quantum is kind of a resource hog. Chrome is actually easier on a system than that, from what I hear. I can't say for sure because I'm on JAWS 18 and latest firefox hates that, but that's the word on the street anyway. -----Original Message----- From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: February-13-19 5:37 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Subject: Re: The best internet browser to use with JAWS. I know a few for example who stay away from Google for precisely the reason you mentioned. If they use Google products, they do so through services that hide their personal info. I actually thought Firefox was the most popular browser among developers because of its open-source nature. Maybe that has changed in the last few years? -----Original Message----- From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of thomas f dinkel Sent: February 13, 2019 3:57 PM To: main@jfw.groups.io Subject: Re: The best internet browser to use with JAWS. JM, The vast majority of developers that I am in contact with see Chrome as the “only browser that matters“ and the browser that everyone should be using. They came for the built-in development tools, they stayed for the convenience of having google store all of their information in one place (and they think that’s a feature). I hear “Firefox is an edge-case” and “Firefox is disappearing“ so do we really need to make it work in Firefox? Now that MS Edge is going to be running Chrome (Chromium) under the hood, there are even less browser options for us. So, to people I care about, I encourage them to do this one small thing to help protect their personal information: make Firefox your default browser. Google makes pretty good stuff, but it isn’t free; we pay by giving them our information. Sorry, that was more than you asked for. I don't know about that particular programme. However there was a discussion

on another list recently about video editing software. Of course a totally blind person will never be able to use all of the features of such a product to their best advantage, but there's no reason why some of the functions can't be accessible. Goldwave is an audio editor. It can extract audio from some video file containers, but it will not work with video content at all.

Re: Keyboard Malfunction

It sounds like a physical malfunction to me, too. I have had this happen with a built-in keyboard before.

Hi – I have a totally perplexing problem with my Acer Aspire netbook. The keyboard is malfunctioning. For example, the keys down the left side of the keyboard (Escape, tilde, Tab, Caps-lock) all say “Escape” when pressed. Keys d, f, c say “5.” Keys k, l, I say “dash.” Arrow up says “F10,” and other arrow keys say “Home.” I assume that I inadvertently clicked some option while exploring settings, but I have no idea what or where that option might be. The touch pad allows my sighted wife to navigate the computer, but her tech skills are very limited. Anybody have a suggestion for returning standard keyboard functionality? Do I need to start in safe mode to get where I need to go to make a change? I hope to avoid having to take the dated netbook to a repair shop, given the typical cost of a repair call and the market value of the netbook. I will be delighted to take conversation about this problem off the list if you have info to share and don’t want to clutter more Jaws-specific list space. Many thanks – Ed Culpepper

Yeah, ctrl-f activates the browser's find function and not JAWS's, I noticed
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
that as well. That's actually ok I think as that's the way browsers are meant to function. Is it that much of a pain for you to use insert-ctrl-f instead? You already have to do this in for examplea dobe reader... That said I'm sure you could remap the keystroke somehow. I don't think jAWS has separate keyboard/script files for waterfox, and that's why the virtual find doesn't work the same. You could probably create one if you watned to.

Re: waterfox with jaws
netbat66
try the portible version. then you can find out for yourself without installing it or messing up firefox if you have it installed.
with the full version, if you uninstall it it will delete files the firefox version uses and it probibly won't run after the full version of waterfox has been uninstalled. this does not apply to the portible version. with this you only have to delete the waterfox folder. Does Waterfox work with 32 bit. That's what my computer is. I've downloaded it but don't want to install unless this is the case.
