Re: msoutlook 2016 compact database?
Van Lant, Robin
I recall that option from the past. Looks like it’s call archiving now. I found my mailbox size on the Account Info and it says to decrease your mailbox size by deleting messages and archiving. The auto archiving settings are under File > Options . Go to the Advanced tab of the Options dialog and a archive button is there to select your settings. Not as straight forward as the compact function from the past, but probably more customizable.

Re: Msword question
Van Lant, Robin
Bill, that doesn’t’ work. F6 moves you away from the search window, but it remains open on the screen. That may not be an issue for those with no vision, but does limit the screen space for those of us with limited vision who enlarge the document size. I wish I knew the real answer. It’s on my question list for Microsoft Accessibility. Some of these windows will have a close button you can tab to at the bottom, but some don’t.

Better still, just go to the run menu and type sndvol.
That way, you can get at it from any computer.

You can actually get to the tab to turn off all effects from Windows sound settings realtek properties. As with all windows it depends how you get there. My favorite method is to create a shortcut to sndvol.exe. Assign a shortcut key like ctr l+alt+v. You can also open the volume mixer by using the run command windows key r. sndvol. enter. You can also search sndvol from the start menu.
You will land on the main volume control. Press shift tab once to get to a button that says the name of the audio device you want to get the control panel properties. Press space bar to activate it as enter might close the window instead.
When you get to Realtek properties, ctr l+tab to navigate to enhancements. There is a checkbox to turn off all enhancements there.
If there is a more direct way, please chime in. I know this topic is kind of old but it might help someone.

Re: reading column titles automatically in excel 2010 with jaws 2018/2019
Ann Byrne
Be sure the cursor is on the row and column you want to be considered headers. If headers are in row 3, and you are in row 1, JAWS thinks row 1 is headers.
My preferred way of setting row/column titles is to use Excel's bookmarking feature. 1. Place the cursor at the intersection of the row and column that are the headers. 2. Press the applications key. 3. Arro to "define name dot dot dot" and press enter. 4. Type the word title and press enter. If row/column titles are not spoken, alt+tab away from the workbook and then alt+tab back. A cool thing is that if this is a worksheet you use repeatedly--as for example a sheet for January, a similar sheet for February, one for March--save-as will include the bookmarks (row and column titles) on the new sheet. This is explained in the JAWS training materials probably more clearly than I just did it. good luck. ann

Hello, It would be nice if the column-titles in a excel file could be spoken automatically while navigating into tables. e.g. if I am in row 73 of column t of a table, I would hear the column-title.
With jaws 2018, insert+alt+shift+c should do the job but not automatically. But, when I do insert+alt+shift+c, I hear no column title. I don’t understand this message since the first row of the document has cel-content that I can use to filter a column.
I have tried something in the quick settings of jaws2018 but the column-headers aren’t spoken.
I don’t know if this is possible and if so, what kind of settings the excel 2010 document should have to let this work.
Many thx for any idea.
Kind regards, William Windels Met vriendelijke groeten William Windels

Exactly what do you mean when you say that you are unable to access Thunderbird? Do you already have it installed and are unable to open it? Or are you having trouble accessing the web page to download it from? Please tell us which OS you are running.
