how do you get directly to where you can lengthen the time the notifications last?

David Ingram

Hi list members, can I have the steps to get to the notifications so that I can lengthen the time that the notifications last. After going to settings then where do I go from there? how to you get to ease of access then go to display then you should find how long notifications last? I hope that this information is correct. I couldn't seem to find that when I tried this before. thank you for any information that you might have concerning this question!

Re: Tether JAWS Cursor to PC Cursor

Hi again, Richard. One thing I have noticed is that, when the JAWS cursor is tethered to the PC Cursor, some menus may not read correctly. So this is a setting you probably don’t want to be permanent, and will probably only want to have set to “The JAWS Cursor will follow the PC Cursor” only when needed.

Hi!

What is the JAWS command (laptop keyboard layout, if available) to tether the JAWS cursor (i.e., the mouse) to the PC cursor?  Also, when this is done, is it specific only to the particular application for which it is done, or is it system wide?  Is there a way to make it specific to a particular application; for example by way of a JAWS setting?  Is the action permanent; meaning it will be active if the computer and the particular application is started subsequently?  Or, must it be done every time the computer is restarted?

Thanks,

Richard

Well, my sighted wife doesn't see any changes compared to other programs, like word or outlook, and she would surely notice if the screen was rotated, etc.
I'm not sure how I would accidentally changed the resolution or background or foreground colors and have it only mess up that one program.
Good ideas though.

I’m actually talking about using the program on my laptop.

Opening a file, or typing into a blank file, Jaws reads nothing.

There is a trial version that can be downloaded if anyone wants to check it out and see what happens, but my guess is, there is something unique to my system since the program works on my work laptop and on that of a Microsoft employee who tried to duplicate my issue.

So, I’m really asking a more generic question if anyone knows what would cause Jaws to report “no font” in a text editor?

I have relied on this program for years for validating my html code and truly hate to lose it.  It has to be some crazy thing about my system, but I am clueless as to where to even look.

It is also possible to change the period of time that popup notifications remain on the screen. They may only stick around for five seconds, which I believe is the default, but this period of time can be lengthened to as much as five minutes before the notification is sent off to the action center.

This adjustment can be found under Settings, Ease of Access, then go to Display. Tab through this dialog and you will find a combo box with the title "show notifications for" and you can then adjust the period of time that they'll stay around.

Hi all,
in several apps like Chrome and Outlook there is a sound played as soon
as I type a word that contains a spelling mistake and press space. I
like that but I'd like to adjust it a bit.
I thought I could set it up in the Speech and Sound Schemes but there
are no sounds configured and the learning mode does not give any
information when typing a word containing an error.
So I guess it's not the Speech and Sound Scheme that is responsible for
this functionality.
Do you have any idea where this behavior comes from and if it is
adjustable?

Thanks and best regards
Denis

Hi - can you also use JAWS Key+Alt+W to virtualise the window if it is not already virtualised such as a control or error message. Have found this quite useful as well as the speech history option depending on the situation.
