Re: Backblaze?

Backblaze is in the US. California, I believe. It's not free for them to
ship a drive to you, but they have ways of making it up. Also if you decide
not to keep the drive, you're responsible for shipping it back at your own
expense--though they will refund the drive if you ship it back the way they
expect you to.

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of, or used backup software
called "backblaze?"

Does it work with Jaws?

I have both a mac and pc, but the hard-drive on my mac officially
failed permanently today, and I don't have a backup of my data.

I'd hate for this to happen to my pc, so any and all feedback is
greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

Hi Jessica,

I am using Backblaze. It will backup things in the cloud.
It is accessible.

You can not really tell what files will be backed up. It automaticly
backs up things. Not your windows folder or executable files.

To restore, you have to go to ther website and specify the date and
what files you want or folder.
And they also have an app for your phone.
It is doable.

Regards, Marten

Hi David,

Yes Jaws will say, Use virtual PC cursor off &, Use virtual PC cursor on, when invoking the, Insert + Z, keystroke.
When you press, Insert + Z twice quickly you'll hear Jaws report, The virtual cursor will be turned off for all applications, or The virtual cursor will be turned on for all applications.

The command mentioned brings up Jaws speech history.

If you want to use it for a larger block of text I wanted to add that it makes sense to first clear speech history with Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by Shift + H. Then let Jaws read the text and bring up speech history with Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by H. Now you can copy all or some of the text showing in the virtual viewer.

Jed, control+page down goes to the next page and control+page up goes to
the previous page. also control+shift+n opens the go to page dialog
where you can type the page you want to go to and press the enter key.

as for searching for text, you can use the insert+control+f.

Any ideas?

You might try going to the speech history, (insert+spacebar then the letter “h”. Then you can find the text you want and copy that to the clip board.

Hi all,
in several apps like Chrome and Outlook there is a sound played as soon
as I type a word that contains a spelling mistake and press space. I
like that but I'd like to adjust it a bit.
I thought I could set it up in the Speech and Sound Schemes but there
are no sounds configured and the learning mode does not give any
information when typing a word containing an error.
So I guess it's not the Speech and Sound Scheme that is responsible for
this functionality.
Do you have any idea where this behavior comes from and if it is adjustable?

Thanks and best regards

Re: jaws19 and copying tekst

William, you can access the speech history (insert+spacebar then h),
select and copy what JAWS has said, and press escape to close the
virtual window. keep in mind that the last 50 entries are retained for
this feature, and phrases that JAWS does speak may not be retained as
one whole entry, so grab the text you want before it scrolls away.

Re: virtual pc cursor

David Moore

Hi David!

What you can do, is go into the JAWS settings center, and make the insert key a sticky key!

Just press Insert+6 on the top numbers row, and type in the word:

Insert

And you will get a list of suggestions that you can pick one and enter on it.

You can make the insert key a sticky key, meaning that you do not have to hold down the insert.

You could just tap insert, and lift off of it,

And press your Space and / to get your Z

I do this with the insert, so I can press the FN key along with a function key to get the function keys on my laptop to work !

I hope that helps.

Re: Windows 10 DEMO mode

Joseph Norton

Hi there.

Well I was able to successfully switch into demo mode.

Just for the curious the way I did it was to go into settings then I went into update on security and then I went in to activation.

Then I had to click on the word windows where it says Windows version I had to click on the word windows five times and I had to use the OCR feature define that word since the Joss cursor doesn’t seem to want to work in settings.

If then proceeded to ask the questions for demo mode.

I don’t mind experimenting with this because this is a computer that I’m using to test different things but you wouldn’t want to do it on a production machine that you are using in a day-to-day activity.

Cheers

Hi David,

I hear where you're coming from, although from a different perspective.  What I mean is I too, started much later than most folks, and only started this computer crap roughly 12 years ago, starting from absolute scratch.  I'm now 61 and only started getting my head wrapped around this stuff about 7 years ago but, I just can't keep up at times with all the computer lingo BS!  LOL  LOL  I wish I had better answers for you but, since I can only try to recreeate what you go through navigating a one handed keyboard, plus not knowing that's the keyboard you're operating, it's hard to answer your questions.  You know what might help is when you ask for Jaws help, also mention that you're using a one handed keyboard.  I know for a fact that there some folks on tis list that have one handed typing students, and this might help with getting replies that will help you with your situation.

Take care.  Go Rams!

Hello again Mike:

I ask this question because I’d like access to  all of the Youtube video keyboard controls(fast forward, rewind, etc.)and informed that this may involve being able to toggle the “virtual pc cursor” on/off.

I should also mention that I’m a one-handed(right) typist using a half-kwerty keyboard.

It has all the keys of a conventional keyboardbut makes liberal use of the spacebar to shift keys normally used by left hand so they can be typed by the right.

For example the /key becomes the letter z by depressing the spacebar, soas a result,  don’t know if capable of performing required key presses  via 2 simultaneous key presses as the spacebar is involved in obtaining the z character.

I’m quite “techno-challanged” having come to this stuff later in life than most(1962 birth year) so really don’t know difference between html files versus others.

Thank you,

Hi David,

Hopefully this will explain it well enough:
The keystroke for toggling the Virtual PC cursor is, Insert + Z.  To tobble it on / off for all applications is, Insert + Z twice quickly.

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the
functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an
HTML document, such as a web page on the Internet.
The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of elements on the page when it
first opens.
For instance, the number of links, headings, and regions.
You can use the ARROW keys to navigate and read the document, or use
Navigation Quick Keys to move to specific elements, such as paragraphs,
tables, or headings.
JAWS also reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code.

Hello list:

What is the virtual pc cursor used for, what are the key presses to toggle
the cursor on/off, and finally, does Jaws announce this change of status?

Sincerely,
