Re: Windows 10 DEMO mode

Joseph Norton

Hi there.

Well I was able to successfully switch into demo mode.

Just for the curious the way I did it was to go into settings then I went into update on security and then I went in to activation.

Then I had to click on the word windows where it says Windows version I had to click on the word windows five times and I had to use the OCR feature define that word since the Joss cursor doesn’t seem to want to work in settings.

If then proceeded to ask the questions for demo mode.

I don’t mind experimenting with this because this is a computer that I’m using to test different things but you wouldn’t want to do it on a production machine that you are using in a day-to-day activity.

Cheers

Hi David,

I hear where you're coming from, although from a different perspective.  What I mean is I too, started much later than most folks, and only started this computer crap roughly 12 years ago, starting from absolute scratch.  I'm now 61 and only started getting my head wrapped around this stuff about 7 years ago but, I just can't keep up at times with all the computer lingo BS!  LOL  LOL  I wish I had better answers for you but, since I can only try to recreeate what you go through navigating a one handed keyboard, plus not knowing that's the keyboard you're operating, it's hard to answer your questions.  You know what might help is when you ask for Jaws help, also mention that you're using a one handed keyboard.  I know for a fact that there some folks on tis list that have one handed typing students, and this might help with getting replies that will help you with your situation.

Hello again Mike:

I ask this question because I’d like access to  all of the Youtube video keyboard controls(fast forward, rewind, etc.)and informed that this may involve being able to toggle the “virtual pc cursor” on/off.

I should also mention that I’m a one-handed(right) typist using a half-kwerty keyboard.

It has all the keys of a conventional keyboardbut makes liberal use of the spacebar to shift keys normally used by left hand so they can be typed by the right.

For example the /key becomes the letter z by depressing the spacebar, soas a result,  don’t know if capable of performing required key presses  via 2 simultaneous key presses as the spacebar is involved in obtaining the z character.

I’m quite “techno-challanged” having come to this stuff later in life than most(1962 birth year) so really don’t know difference between html files versus others.

Hopefully this will explain it well enough:
The keystroke for toggling the Virtual PC cursor is, Insert + Z.  To tobble it on / off for all applications is, Insert + Z twice quickly.

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the
functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an

The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of elements on the page when it
first opens.
For instance, the number of links, headings, and regions.
You can use the ARROW keys to navigate and read the document, or use

Have you ever tried sticky keys to do things like insert-z or
whatever? I don't know if insert is something you can use with sticky
keys, but it might be worth a shot.

Google Chrome and inadvertently muting a tab. Can someone please explain this?

Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.

                Hi,

I recently had problems getting YouTube to sound while playing. I received great advice from many here, but it didn’t help. I was stumped, and still am, but have some more information on what may have been going on, but I still don’t understand exactly what happened or how I could fix it.

I finally had some sighted assistance. This person looked at Chrome and told me there was a bar at the top of the Chrome page indicating 3 open tabs, and one of those tabs, the one YouTube was on, had a mute indicator over it. My helper clicked on that tab, and from what sounded to me like an Application list one gets by hitting Shift F10, found an unmute button. This person had no idea how I could do this with speech.

Does anyone here have an idea what is going on, and how I can troubleshoot this in the future?

Any and all advice much appreciated.

YouTube has played well since. It wasn’t a YouTube problem, but somehow a Google setting for muting a tab was activated.

Re: virtual pc cursor

The virtual cursor is used when JAWS takes a "buffer" of a web page or PDF
document to make for easier reading. It allows for the use of navigation
quick keys, so you can move by headings, links, etc. When in the virtual
buffer, key-presses do not behave as theyw ould in "normal" cursor mode. You
can turn the virtual cursor on or off with jaws key + z.

Re: older Jaws on pc

JM Casey

While there's probably no need to keep all your jAWS versions around, I'd
probably keep one or two others besides the most current version. You never
know when something will break with an update, and you might find that you
like the way your software works with an older version better. You can
switch between jAWS versions easily without rebooting your computer or
anything. So yeah, unless you are running out fo space, may as well leave
them be.

David:
If you are not hurting for space, I would not bother removing them.
If you still want to remove them, I would keep 2018 in case you find a bug in 2019 and wish to see if it works better with 2018.
Otherwise, there should be an uninstall option within each JAWS version folder.
When uninstalling, it will ask if you wish to remove shared components. Do not remove the shared components.

Anyone Ever Use SAKAI with JAWS?

Laurie Alice Eakes <lauriealice.eakes@...>

Because I've lost my reason, I have gone back to school to get my MSW,
and have run into some accessibility issues with their software.

One major obstacle is called SAKAI. It's an online system for
uploading and storing information for courses such as references,
texts, etc.

I have it minimally working on my Mac, but on my Windows machine,
using both IE and Firefox with JFW 2019, I have had little success.

If anyone here has any information on this system with JAWS, please
contact me ASAP.

Does anyone else have a problem with "boarder changes indication" in Excel 2016 using JAWS 2019 under Windows 7?

Richard B. McDonald

Hi!

I am using JAWS 2019 under Windows 7.  In Excel 2016, even though I have checked the JAWS setting for “boarder changes indication,” it is not working.  However, if I press alt+chift+b JAWS does say the boarder types around the cell.  Does anyone else have this problem.  Or, is this working correctly for you?  I would be very interested in your experience with this.

Thanks,

Richard

I need help from someone with advance Jaws knowledge.

I’ve asked previously about CSS HTML Validator including asking Freedom Scientific and got a “we don’t know” response.

I’m asking a slightly different question.

Someone I know at Microsoft loaded CSS HTML Validator and had no problem reading the text that he created or in an existing html document using NVDA, JAWS and Narrator.

However, on my Windows 10 64 bit system running Jaws 2018 latest updates of all software, I hear absolutely nothing.

Do any of you have any idea why one program would not read with any screen reader when on another system running essentially the same software all screen readers read just fine.

I have no problem with reading in Outlook, Word, Excel, Firefox, Edge, etc.

Any wild ideas are welcome.

Richard
