Do you have a link to the HTML/CSS validator that you are having a problem with?

Subject: Jaws not reading in an application

I need help from someone with advance Jaws knowledge.

I’ve asked previously about CSS HTML Validator including asking Freedom Scientific and got a “we don’t know” response.

I’m asking a slightly different question.

Someone I know at Microsoft loaded CSS HTML Validator and had no problem reading the text that he created or in an existing html document using NVDA, JAWS and Narrator.

However, on my Windows 10 64 bit system running Jaws 2018 latest updates of all software, I hear absolutely nothing.

Do any of you have any idea why one program would not read with any screen reader when on another system running essentially the same software all screen readers read just fine.

I have no problem with reading in Outlook, Word, Excel, Firefox, Edge, etc.

Any wild ideas are welcome.

Richard

sorry if this has been answered, but my shot in the dark:

just curious, which OS was used when the screen readers wouldn't speak
as opposed to when they spoke? if the answer is that the same OS was
used for both instances, then I would guess the issue has something to
do with the system of the display, either it's the drivers not being up
to date or some technical issue.

Hi Adison!

Here is what I do!

Press the Windows key to open the start search edit.

Type:

Disk and you will hear the disk clean up app.

Press enter, and the app will begin searching your disk for cleaning.

Check the boxes you want to clean.

Now, tab once and press enter to clean up system files.

It will take a few minutes, and you will get quite a bit you can clean up.

Do not check downloads, or you will delete everything in your downloads folder.

Check what you want, and press enter.

If there is an old Windows 10 on your computer ,

That you haven’t gotten rid of yet,

It will ask you if you want to delete that, if so, press enter on yes.

You will get a confirm message, so press enter on yes again.

I like doing this a lot better than going to settings, and going to storage.

I am not as comfortable with the accessibility of the storage group of settings.

Re: Set Acrobat Reader DC as default pdf reader

CathyAnne Murtha <cathy@...>

You can perform these steps to assign a default application to any file type in Windows.

  • Open File Explorer (WINDOWS KEY-E)
  • Focus on a document for which you’d like to assign a default application
  • Open the Windows Application Menu (WINDOWS APPLICATION KEY or SHIFT-F10)
  • Within the menu, activate “Open With”
  • A dialog opens with a list of applications.  The most frequently used applications are listed
  • Focus on the application you’d like to use
  • At the bottom of the dialog is a checkbox “Always use this app to open (file type)”
  • Toggle the checkbox on so it’s checked (in Windows, SPACEBAR toggles checkboxes)
  • Activate the OK button to save the changes and exit the dialog

You can close File Explorer. Windows will use the selected application for all documents of the file type you just configured.

Re: How can I unmute YouTube?

CathyAnne Murtha <cathy@...>

When focused on the video, you’ll usually hear the video name and a tone to let you know you’re in a form field, press M. this serves two purposes.

M mutes and unmutes audio

With JAWS for Windows, it also pauses the video.

There are some additional YouTube commands, you may like. Once again, you must be focused on the video for these commands to work. They do work in JAWS Browse mode:

Pause/Play SPACEBAR

Full Screen Mode F

Exit Full Screen Mode ESCAPE

Go to the beginning of a video HOME

Go to the end of a video END

Restart the video NUMBER ROW 0

Move to a percentage of the video (10% through 90%) NUMBER ROW 1 through NUMBER ROW 9

Move to the next video in a playlist SHIFT-N

Move to the previous video in a playlist SHIFT-P

Fast forward five seconds RIGHT ARROW

Rewind five seconds LEFT ARROW

Fast forward 10 seconds l

Rewind 10 seconds J

Hi,

I haven’t had this problem before.

When I open a link in YouTube to play a file, I get no sound. I understand the clip is playing as the time indicator progresses as it should.

I cannot find a mute/unmute button reliably, but when I do, and toggle it, nothing changes. Volume in the YouTube player indicates it is at 100%. Changing this to different values has had no effect.

I’m totally stumped at this point on how to try to fix this.

Running latest Jaws 2019 on Windows 10. This has persisted over many days now, and persists despite numerous shutdowns and restarts.

Thanks in advance for any help. Keith
