That is an odd issue I have not seen.  Try using Control Shift I to return to the inbox and see if you get the same result.

Hello, I’m using Windows10, Outlook2016 and Jaws2018. Starting last week I encountered a problem when I switch from the inbox to a different folder. I go to another folder, read a few of the emails and then return to the inbox. When I get back to the inbox it says there are zero emails. I arrow up and down and nothing shows. I page up and down and nothing shows up. I exit Outlook and then try to go back in. When I try to activate Outllok from the desktop or from Cortona, it will not load. I can activate 3 or 4 other apps from the desk and sometimes Outlook will load. Most of the time I have to reboot. My main concern right now is why don’t the emails appear in the inbox after I switch in and out of the inbox? They will only show up after I go out and then back into Outlook. Cheers, Kevin

Hi
If you’re going to be scanning using a desktop PC, Epson scanners are always a good option. If you’re using a laptop and need portability, the Cannon Lide 220 only needs power from the USB port, will fit in your laptop bag and can be purchased from Amazon probably for under $80 or $100 tops. It’s slow and not designed for real heavy-duty scanning over the long haul but it works pretty well. I avoid all-in-one printer/scanner/fax devices like the plague.

I've owned three all-in-one units with screens, and the screen hasn't effected scanning functionality on any of them.  Right now I do most of my scanning with a giant Epson workforce all-in-one that has a 11x17 scanner.  It works fine with Jaws, as long as you choose the right scanner for the ocr, there are choices that won't work at all.

Try to find a dedicated, stand alone scanner, which is likely to be more accessible and easier to use than an all-in-one unit, which may have an LCD screen with inaccessible menuoptions.  I would recommend Epson Perfection scanners.  My Epson Perfection 4490 has been performing like a work horse with Open Book and JAWS convenient OCR for ten years.

Well, at this time openbook hasen't been updated in a long time, and in my opinion hp is a great twain scanner, never had a problem out of most of the hp scanners I have used. Not saying open book is not a good option but version 9 has been the main meat and potatos for several years.

I think you would just need to make sure that which ever one you got did not have to be run by some other software. If it can be run purely as a Twain scanner, then it should work fine.
I have an old Canon LIDE 110, I think is the model number and it works fine. It is probably a little slow, but was under $100 when I bought it probably 7 years ago.

Hi,

The general cause is screen readers not being aware of UIA implementations in recent outlook releases. I’m thinking something might be going on with JAWS 2019’s UIA support in Outlook, but we may need to talk to Vispero about it (talk to me privately about NVDA, as there is a research project to fix this and related bugs in one go).

Bill,

           They do mean Right Arrow, and I'd just give this a try with a few of the items returned.  Once you've right arrowed, if there is more than one option you can down arrow/up arrow to go through them.  To get back to the list of items returned by the search you can just hit left arrow regardless of where you are in the list of options for the single item you're playing with.

           What Version of Windows 10?  I have Version 1809, Build 17763.194, and when I do this the right arrow for something noted as settings throws focus to the open option for those settings.  What the right arrow does is move you out of the "search results" list/column and in to a list of things you can do with the current item you have focus on in the search results list.  What that is, of course, varies depending on the type of the search result item itself.

using the JAWS cursor, do you find a cancel button? if so, "click" it.
did it go away? if not, try closing the session with a control+w or just
alt+f4 and try to visit and navigate a website.

Part of the problem is I can't predict when the view settings thing
will happen. For example I was shopping the other day at qvc.com and
repeatedly getting the view settings message. Until I wasn't. I closed
the site three or four times then on the fifth try all was fine.
Sometimes it happens on the gmail web interface, most of the time not.

I know that isn't especially helpful. But the randomness is what makes
this issue all the more maddening.

The message that says how the content of the site has been deemed safe
does feel like it's significant. That why I was curious as to whether
there is some setting that tries to check that sort of thing.

In any case, it drives me crazy. I love Chrome otherwise and have only
been seeing this issue recently.

I have rthe same problem, occasionally. Also, sometimes all I get is blank. When that happens, I go to the start menu and type default apps. then I revert to Internet Explorer for default for a while. Things eventually return to normal and I revert to chrome. bit of a pain.
