Re: Browser used with research it

I don't think it can be easily changed, it does not respect the default browser setting in windows.  Maybe some day they will do it in the expected manner, but there may be a good reason why it is done the way it is.  It isn't a problem now that I fixed some ad-on issues I was having with ie.

Hi Jessica,

Yes, I have had this problem from time to time and the only solution  seems to be to unload and reload Jaws.  If this does not work then reboot your system.

What is your Default browser set to? If Internet Explorer then Research it
is most likely using that setting.

List Rules - Tue, 01/01/2019 #cal-notice

main@jfw.groups.io Calendar <noreply@...>

List Rules

When:
Tuesday, 1 January 2019
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-05:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

Re: google drive and gmail

In Gmail you can use the operator in: attached to a mailbox name to show only messages in that box and I find using in:trash in the search box much easier than digging for it in the controls on the Gmail page.  Once Trash is shown, there is a link at the top of the page that reads Empty trash now which does precisely what it says.

In Google Drive, there is a control Trash (with a capital T) that when activated will show your trash folder.  Once that folder is actually showing, there is another dropdown control, labeled Trash as well, that when activated gives you the option to Empty Trash.  [It's also possible to restore an item or items in trash to their former locations, just like Recycle Bin in Windows.]

jaws not reading automatically when an idicator on webpage changes

mike mcglashon

Hey guys:

Jaws 2019 here, win10,

Am using marketwatch.com for this example;

I think there is a bug with jaws, at least 2018 and 2019;

I put the virtual cursor on a stock that is continuously changing,

When I do, the braille display changes and shows the change whenever the ticker changes;

However, with jaws virtual cursor on that line, jaws does not read the changed line automatically,

In fact, it says nothing, yet the braile display keeps up with the change;

“I wish jaws to speak the change whenever the line changes;

How do I do this?

I should also say that Office 365 will offer more actual features over time, whereas the boxed copy or perpetual license only offers bug fixes and security updates. I may be wrong about this but I had the impression that improvements to accessibility might not appear with subsequent updates to Office 2016 or 2019 but they could roll out with updates to Office 365. If I am wrong about this I would appreciate being informed.

If it is just yourself you could get an individual subscription for I think $59 a year.

Going forward you will find that you will get the most up-to-date functionality and scripts if you are running the subscription version. As of Jaws 2019 Freedom Scientific has separated the scripts for the retail version and the subscription version and since a large majority of people and companies opt for the subscription model nowadays it will get more attention.

Hi;

I am a new list member.  I received a pc running windows ten professional and I can use up to jaws 2019.  I plan to purchase some version of office and although they all theoretically work perfectly, I wonder which version is likely to give me the least grief and if there are any versions I should consider avoiding?

Many thanks

Richard

Re: elementary question

Being an "I hate subscription services" person myself, I recently upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 2016 Pro Plus.   I really like having the installed versions of the Office programs.

Although Office 2019 is the latest, the jump from 2010 to 2016 was a major upgrade and 2016 is years away from its end of life.  When you couple that with recycled Office licenses routinely being available on eBay for under $10, it was an easy choice for me.

Placing the cursor on the footnote mark (e.g., the number if you’re using numbered footnotes) and pressing the delete key a few times worked for me in a quick test.
