elementary question

Hi;

I am a new list member.  I received a pc running windows ten professional and I can use up to jaws 2019.  I plan to purchase some version of office and although they all theoretically work perfectly, I wonder which version is likely to give me the least grief and if there are any versions I should consider avoiding?

Richard, I looked into using the validator below. I’m not sure if this does the same as the one you were using. I’m just getting into web  development. I tried a few times and was able to get the least of error/warning messages. I know there is some other options which I have not used. This is put out by the W3C organization.

It checks for all kinds of html coding errors and has a setting particularly for accessibility.  I’ve used it since 2009.

Not as often in the last couple of years since having to switch to Jaws. 

With Jaws, not much works.  I cannot even simply read the contents of the file.  Let alone the highlighted area that shows up in a different panel with the errors or warnings or just messages with useful information.

 

If I switch to the touch cursor, I can read one line.  Not very useful.

 

With Window-Eyes, I could read everything and was able to define a window and hotkey to read the error messages.

 

Partly it is no doubt my ignorance of Jaws, but I think there are other issues Jaws has with this program and I’m not a scripter and will never become one, so was hoping someone out there had used this software and figured stuff out.

 

Fortunately I had gotten my own web sites fixed while I was using Window-eyes, but I’m now trying to give specific feedback to a company about their web site that is beyond awful and they seem to need some very specific examples of why their web site is awful as they think their stuff doesn’t stink….

Hello,

About 3 months ago,

I had to completely remove/restore my Mac book pro because it would not return to the Mac OS. It would not even show that there was a Mac side, I had to remove everything and restore it to a single partition and now I will only run Mac OS on a Mac product. My Boot camp days are over.

Just my personal experience though, and I read about others having the same issue.

I’ve spoken to Vispero, and they say it’s a Microsoft problem, and Microsoft says it’s a Jaws issue.

Not sure what is different in 365’s version that has this problem fixed.

Can anyone confirm?

Hello,

I use the alt/shift/L for spot checking documents, but on all of the computers in our computer lab, once in the spell checker dialog with F7, Insert/F7 will still announce the misspelled word that is targeted for correction still.

Kevin, When someone looked at the images, were they part of the diagram or were they captions below the image. If part of the interior of an image like a diagram, the original OCR engine may not have recognize them from lines or other details of the image. What is the source of the eBook, and is it a DAISY structured book?

If the images are diagrams or photos there may be nothing there for an OCR program to convert to text. Not knowing what the technical manual may cover, the images could be true handwriting meaning not a common script font. The case there would be the same. Wish I had better news or advice.

The figure in a picture format does have text. You said I should OCR it before putting it into a document. The book is in electronic format. How would I be able to OCR a figure? Is it possible to put the cursor on the line where the figure exists and then activate the Jaws OCR? I know I could do that from outside a document.

OCR the image *before* putting it in a document.

Then copy and paste the resulting text.

If the images are diagrams or photos there may be nothing there for an OCR program to convert to text. Not knowing what the technical manual may cover, the images could be true handwriting meaning not a common script font. The case there would be the same. Wish I had better news or advice.

Hi everyone, I’m coming in to this a bit late, but here’s my findings.

Spell Check is unreliable in MS-Word 2016 via the F7 method. For some reason I have not seen the described behavior on PC’s running the 365 version of MS-Word.
I’ve advised that clients learn the alt shift L method as a backup anyway, but this has been a problem for at least a year.

I’ve spoken to Vispero, and they say it’s a Microsoft problem, and Microsoft says it’s a Jaws issue.

Not sure what is different in 365’s version that has this problem fixed.

Can anyone confirm?

Alt F7 takes you to each misspelled word. Issue with this method is that it
opens the context menu with suggested changes in it. That often works, but
you have to press Escape once or twice to get out and read the word in
context if it's not obvious what word it is. I think this is a Word
Command, not a JAWS one, so it probably works well for sighted users who can
see the misspelled word and are ready to see the list of suggestions.

The reason it works differently in Word from Outlook is that Outlook still
uses the old dialog box interface, whereas Word has gone to a ride side pane
display for spell check.

I don't like it either, but better than nothing. If you press enter on the
word JAWS finds, I think it takes you to it. I still use f7, then escape to
find the word, then try to figure it from there. Stinkin' annoying!

JAWS command alt+shift+l to locate misspelled words, or insert+z to

Then copy and paste the resulting text.

If you are looking for a specific post, I believe they show up normally according to the last comment, chronologically. So in reverse order, but not necessarily in order of posting, if that makes sense.
If you keep clicking "see more", you should eventually find it.
Not the most efficient way to handle important stuff, certainly.

Yea, I noticed that too. None of my groups show up on the mobile site; just suggested groups.
I'm taking three courses using Facebook, and cannot find anything I need anymore. Yesterday morning, it worked fine. Now it's a total mess. How can we report this to Facebook?
