Re: Jaws loading

DJ

I was hoping that jaws 2019 with start faster on my windows 10 PC also. That hasn’t really been the case. But I did discover though, is that the windows 10 keeps putting a slideshow or picture selection up on the screen. There is a way to click around it, but with no vision, it’s almost impossible.  I think my testimony might be completely opposite from what is now, if I could just figure out how to get that slideshow to stop coming up every time I turn my computer on. Any suggestions?

It could be something else that is delaying your profile loading and not JAWS at all.

One of the benefits of Jaws 2019 was supposed to be faster startup.  I
don't see any real difference but do see after Jaws loading speech is
choppy for a short while before working well.  Anyone else seeing this?

Alt F7 takes you to each misspelled word. Issue with this method is that it
opens the context menu with suggested changes in it. That often works, but
you have to press Escape once or twice to get out and read the word in
context if it's not obvious what word it is. I think this is a Word
Command, not a JAWS one, so it probably works well for sighted users who can
see the misspelled word and are ready to see the list of suggestions.

The reason it works differently in Word from Outlook is that Outlook still
uses the old dialog box interface, whereas Word has gone to a ride side pane
display for spell check.

excel 2010 and vallidation lists

William Windels

Hello,

In microsoft excel 2010, I use drop down list with vallidation.

So, I should do alt+down-arrow to open the list, select the predefined value with the arrow-keys and then close the list with alt+up-arrow.

It happends very often that jaws is showing nothing while scrolling the dropdown-list but when doing 3 times down-arrow, and then close the dropdown-list, the tird option is selected.

My conclusion is that ms excel is working well but jaws is not showing.

I can’t fiond out allo what’s the problem.

I have jaws18 and jaws2018 and both have the problem.

The excel-window is maximised.

Any ideas what I could test or what can be the problem?

Kind regards,

Hi, Dean. Incidentally, when I went to Default user, selected Text Processing>General>List Item, I tried changing to both to see if this would change the behavior of CONTROL plus SPACE on the desktop, and it didn’t. I haven’t upgraded yet, but it would be interesting to see if they inadvertently changed the default behavior of a setting.the fourth setting in the general section of the text processing dialog is called List Item, and there are four choices.  The default has always been “say not selected.”  It sounds like they may have changed the default, but by changing that setting you may get things back the way they should work.

Subject: Selected and unselected items

I have discovered a new behavior in JAWS2019's latest update. In the past, if a file, folder, or an icon was selected, and then unselected, you would hear the following.

When the file, folder or icon was selected, such as Recycle Bin, you would hear the item spoken.

JAWS 2018

Recycle Bin

Then if unselected, JAWS would say,

Not Selected Recycle Bin

JAWS 2019's latest update behaves differently. If you select a file, folder or icon, JAWS does not voice the icon, but, instead, says, Selected.

If the item is then unselected with CONTROL plus SPACE, JAWS does not say anything, or indicate that the item has been unselected.

I have reported this behavior to Vispero, and the lady who took my call reported it as a bug. I don't know if this is a bug, or if it is a changed behavior instituted by vispero, as per the silent TAB key. Either way, I am not happy with this change. I want to know if an item is selected or unselected.
