Re: pasting multiple items into ms excel

You could paste the items into Notepad, then manually put them one after another separated either by a comma or a tab, once finished select all, copy and now paste into Excel.

Subject: pasting multiple items into ms excel

Hello,

For me job, I need to collect different parts of a website into the clipboard to paste in ms-excel 2010.

I use the jaws-script AppendTextToClipboard to collect the items into the clipboard but when I paste them in excel, the items are pasted each on a defferent row (below each other).

They should be pasted next to each other.

The transpose feature from ms excel is not solving the problem.

Any idea if I can force this with jaws, a jaws-script or anothe raccessible program on win10?

Kind regards for any responses.

Re: Purchased Access 2016 on Ebay

As an aside, given that "recycled licenses" for Office 2016 Pro Plus routinely cost about the same as the $11 paid for Access 2016, they're a better bargain and you get the entire office suite, including Access, in the bargain.

I have updated six computers now using recycled licenses purchased from eBay and have had no trouble except with one license key, which the seller promptly replaced with another when I let them know it didn't work.

Re: Purchased Access 2016 on Ebay

The link leads to an AccessRetail.img file.  If what you purchased was a license key, you can still go to Microsoft's site to download the installer, and that's what I'd do anyway.  bit.ly is a competitor to tinyurl and other "URL shortener" services.

The Access page is:  https://products.office.com/en-us/access
I would presume the "Try Now" button would download the trial version which could be enabled by supplying a license key.

Do not be surprised if the key you received will not activate via the internet.  You may have to use phone activation, but even that's a misnomer in a way these days.  You're asked a couple of questions by a "bot" along with your mobile number (if you have one) and the confirmation code, which is ungodly long, which will allow you to complete activation is texted to you.

Hello Debby,

This doesn’t work:

When I past them , excel said taht the data i want to paste has another size and form.

Anyway, I could paste the data but it’s only in one cell with “ ….” Ath then end so, there is more data in the cell but also with f2, the (hidden) data isn’t shown.

Kind regard

Hi William,

I can’t guarantee that this will work 100%, but this is what I would try. Say you want to paste your content in a1 through e1. Do this:

After you get the information on the clipboard go to excel and press control + g which puts you into “go to” screen.

In my example I would type “a1:e1” without quotes and press enter.

Now paste from your clipboard and see what you get.

I hope that helps!

Re: Question About JAWS 2019 Reading Column and Row Titles for Tables in Microsoft Word 365

Milissa,

           Take a look at:  http://accessproject.colostate.edu/udl/modules/word/tut_table_headings.php

If doing this with the header rows allows JAWS to announce things "more gracefully," you might also want to make whoever it is that's creating the original document(s) with tables in them aware of this material.  I recently had to figure out how one does this in Excel so that JAWS can easily announce what column you're dealing with for the row that you're in.

I don't have JAWS installed on this machine to test with.

There's also a raft of great information returned by this web search:  https://duckduckgo.com/?q=MS-Word+table+headings+accessibility

My gut tells me this is going to be solved by setting up the MS-Word document such that JAWS can handle tables gracefully moreso than actually tweaking JAWS settings, though there may be some of that.

Question About JAWS 2019 Reading Column and Row Titles for Tables in Microsoft Word 365

mwelch8877@...

HI All,

I am required to fill in information in a Microsoft Word document for
school. In order to do so, I am required to enter the information into a
table. However, JAWS 2019 is not reading the Column and row titles as I
navigate within the table. The only time JAWS reads the Column titles is if
I am at the top of each Column where the column titles are actually located.
The same JAWS behavior holds true for the row titles. Is there any setting
that I can change that will allow JAWS to read the Column and row titles in
a Word document when I am navigating within the table?

I am currently using the latest version of JAWS 2019 with the latest version
of Office 365 on a Windows 10 computer. I have checked my Word quick
settings by hitting insert plus V. According to my table settings for Word,
cell coordinates announcements, table detection, and description are all
checked. I know that in Excel, there are settings where you can set JAWS to
automatically read Column and row titles. Is there a similar setting for
Microsoft Word that will allow JAWS to read Column and row titles for
tables?

AS a side note, when I had to complete this same document back in August of
2018 when I was using JAWS 2018 and the latest version of Microsoft Office
365 at that time, I did not have this problem of JAWS not reading the Column
and row titles within the table.

Thank you for any assistance you are able to provide.

Milissa

Shift+F6 or Ctrl+Shift+Tab from the message list will take you to the tree of folders. Microsoft Outlook is fairly slow on several machines that I’ve used. It’s very fast on my current laptop. I suspect the reason might be the NVM-Express solid-state drive on this laptop, which should greatly speed up access to the message database.

Microsoft Outlook for Mac also performs very well. Again, my Mac has a fast SSD.

I'm not sure if your issues are being caused by Outlook or JAWS 2019.

I ran into so many issues with JAWS 2019 that I am using 2018 until an update comes out for 2019.

But, my way of getting to the folder tree is by pressing control-y.

Then you can arrow up or down or use first-letter navigation

I admit this isn't the fastest machine out there but it's served me well for many years.

I've recently begun using JAWS 2019. I've been a Thunderbird user for about nine years and, in general, it works well on this machine. However, JAWS has just enough issues with it that I considered switching to Outlook. First, I sometimes hear "not selected" as I delete messages and focus moves to the next message. I also find it very annoying that it places the subject of the message on the first line of the message, just as it does when placing the title text on the first line of a Web page. At other times, navigating the list of folders does not report the folder name which has focus, although this issue is intermittent. The "not selected" announcement is also intermittent. Basically, the Thunderbird scripts really need to be updated.

My version of Outlook is 2016 via Office 365.

Anyway, after trying Outlook 2016 I have the following questions and observations.

1. Where is the folder tree view that I'm used to with older versions of Outlook? From the message list I thought it would gain focus if I press shift-tab but this does not happen. I have enabled it in View settings unless there is something that I've missed.

2. It's probably my machine but performance when opening a message is very slow. I have ensured that preview pane and message reading pane are disabled. While I have message reading set to automatic in Quick Settings it sometimes just reads the sender's name, followed by "button" whenever I open a message. I believe I may have fixed this by setting the reading to not use the virtual cursor for read-only messages, as this has slightly improved the performance but I am wondering if others have experienced this. While I do not intend to start a JAWS vs NVDA battle I will say that the performance with NVDA and Outlook is somewhat better than what I'm seeing with JAWS.

I just want to echo Dean's comment about Codex. It is a fabulous way to get Kindle books you have purchased into a very user friendly format that can be read in your favorite reading app.
Most other apps, than Kindle, are easier to use with VoiceOver.
And the beauty of Codex is that the formatting is maintained so all the chapters, page numbering if present, etc., are kept.
I always convert them to ePub and read them in Voice Dream Reader.

The Kindle for PC program isn't at all accessible to register, but it can be done. Some of us use a program called Codex, which easily converts Kindle books to any format you want. For this, one does not use the latest Kindle. As long as I'm converting the book for my own use, I am certainly not violating copyright law. Be all that as it may, this page about Codex includes the clear explanation of how to register Kindle for PC.

If you are in the message list you can also press Control+Shift+Tab to go into the folders list. Not sure why F6 or Shift+F6 is less convenient than Tab and Shift+Tab, it's the same amount of key presses unless of course it is because the tab/Shift+Tab is what you were used to. I figured it out. From the message list, pressing shift-f6 moves focus to the folder pane. From the folder pane, pressing F6 moves focus back to the message list. This new method is not as convenient as pressing shift-tab, which has been the way I've been navigating since probably the days of Outlook Express in the 2000s.

Re: Registering Kindle for PC software using Jaws

Dean Martineau <topdot@...>

The Kindle for PC program isn't at all accessible to register, but it can be done. Some of us use a program called Codex, which easily converts Kindle books to any format you want. For this, one does not use the latest Kindle. As long as I'm converting the book for my own use, I am certainly not violating copyright law. Be all that as it may, this page about Codex includes the clear explanation of how to register Kindle for PC.

cannot install sql management studio 2017.19.1 with jaws 2019

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>

Hi, I try to install sql management studio 2017.9.1 latest stable release, and it gets stuck at the visual studio 2015 kb 3 million 95 681 and then I get this error.

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Button

RELEASE 17.9.1

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Close Button

Setup Failed

A pending restart is blocking setup from completing. Please restart the computer and run setup again.

Click here for the log file.

And do multiple reboots. Even searched for vs 2015 in the registry  and deleted allinstances.

And still does not install. Got sql server 2017 64 bit express installed and visual studio community 2017 15.9.3 installed.  Windows 10 64 bit pro 1809 and latest updates and got jaws 2019 home user. So, is there a work around, and have tried googling, but no luck. This is stupid. I do have a package called total uinstaller which will totally remove all instances of visual studio and found it on github, a command line utlity.

If any one has run into this issue, how did they fix it.

This si frustrating.

Don’t have time to do a windows reset, windows 10 is working fine, only issue, and did read through the log, but cannot seem to see any thing jumping out at me.

Any ideas.

How to get this to work.

Frustrated.

Just want to import my databases and then have a look.

Any one had this issue.

Howdy Tom,

Here you go:

Try the following, but the steps below aren't complete because of the various options you get after making changes to a scheme

1. Open the Settings Center with, Jaws / Insert key + 6, on the number row, & press, control, shift + D, to open Settings Center default all
applications
2. Arrow down to Speech & Sound Schemes, right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Modify Schemes...., & press the spacebar to open.  Don't
press enter here!  Pressing enter will close the Settings Center.  Also make
note of what scheme is highlighted as the default scheme.
4. Tab to, edit selected scheme button, & press the spacebar.
5. You should be on the, General Page / tab so, control + tab to the Misc.
page / tab, & tab 1 time into the list of options.
Arrow down to, Cap             Speak text           Using SingleCapVoice,
tab 1 time to a list of choices, arrow up / down to, Speak Item checked.
Now you'll have to choose what you want to do, modify, save, create new....
by tabbing through the dialogues & making your choices.
It might take some experimentation because you'll need to Apply / Okay a few
times in order to make this the default or whatever you choose to do with
this altered / changed scheme.  I'm sorry I can't make these steps more
complete, but my personal choices could be different than your own, so
that's why I said it will take some experimentation.
HTH
Take care.  Go Rams!

Thanks Mike, worked like a charm.

Have silenced numerous keys but no doubt will find more to be silenced as time goes on.

Is there any way to have Jaws say “cap” when arrowing through the text rather than having the pitch raised?

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom,

Try the following:
The Tab key is muted by default in Jaws 2019 so you don't hear either the Alt or Tab keys.  Here's how to get them both back to being muted.
1. Open the Settings Center with the keystroke, Jaws key + 6, on the number row then press, control, shift + D, to open default all applications.
2. Navigate to, Keyboard closed, and press right arrow to open.
3. Down arrow to, General closed, and right arrow to open.
4. Down arrow to, Manage key labels..., and press the spacebar to open.  Note;  don't press enter , if you press enter it'll close the Settings Center.
5. Press the letter, T, and it'll take you to, Tab tab Speak, now tab 1 time an you'll hear, toggle mute button, so press the spacebar to hear, Tab tab Mute.
6. Tab to, Okay, press the spacebar, again tab to, Okay, press enter to save & close.

Take care.  Go Rams!

Using: W10 Home 64 bit with latest update and Jaws 2019

Hi,

I just did a clean install of Jaws 2019 and now keys like the escape, alt F4 and enter are being spoken when pressed.

Can someone please refresh my memory on how to stop this behaviour?

Thanks

Tom
