Re: Excel and insert+enter or insert+delete?

Van Lant, Robin

I just tried these for the first time in a spreadsheet I have. It sounds like JAWS looks for a "SUM" formula in the row or column you are in. I did not do anything to set this up, since I didn’t' even know about these keyboard shortcuts before today. When I did the command in a column with no totals cell, JAWS said "I cannot find a Sum formula in the current column". Nice feature to know aobut.

Should these work in any spreadsheet with numbers or do you have to set something up first to make them work?

I'm running Jaws 19 with office 365, and these combinations don't seem to do anything.

Thanks.

Re: getting rid of adverts when on a website

Steve Matzura

If it's an add-on or extension, you can find all your extensions by:

1. Tapping Alt.

2. Arrowing down to "More Tools" and pressing right-arrow.

3. Finding "Extensions" and pressing ENTER.

You'll be in a very nicely accessible page where all your extensions are listed. There's a Details and Remove button for each one.

I actually like the way Chrome presents extensions a bit better than the way Firefox does. FF puts them in a list. Chrome puts them all on a single page, so you can use your screenreader's find function to locate the extension of interest by name without having to browse a list.

Hope this helps.

Hi!

I am seeking an efficient, accessible way to interact with “comments” within an MS Word 2016 document.  I am using JAWS 2019.

I am familiar with the MS Word command to make a list of “comments” (control+shift+’) as well as the similar JAWS command (windows+;) and also the JAWS command alt+control+’.  But, none of these commands opens the “comment” pane relative to the “comment” at the cursor location.  Instead, all they do is list, announce and allow you to navigate to the spot within the document where the respective “comment” is.  I wish that when JAWS announces that the text at the present cursor location contains a “comment” I could make a command to open the “comment” pane for that particular “comment.”

As regards interacting with the “comment” pane, is making the shift+F10 (applications key) really the only way to interact with it?  It also seems that the standard control+spacebar command to close a pane does not work but, rather, that the only way to close the pane is to press escape; which seemingly also saves whatever changes or interactions you may have performed relative to the “comment.”  Is all this true?

Finally, suppose you are in a “comment” pane and that you have interacted with it in whatever way (e.g., edited it, just looked at it, resolved it, etc.), is there an easy way to then move to the next or previous “comment”?

Right now, the only way I know how to do pretty much all of the above is to go through the virtual ribbon menu structure; which is neither easy nor efficient.  There must be a better way!

Thanks,

Richard

Marty,

By the way, there is very little utility in using more than one ad blocker extension, so choose one or the other.

I personally like uBlock Origin (and in the case of Chrome, uBlock Origin Extra) because it does several things in addition to ad blocking such as malicious script blocking.  You can read on its extension page about the range of additional protections.

It hasn’t been mentioned on the blindmath list, which is where accessible mathematics-related tools are discussed. I would suggest subscribing there.

Trying it with Chrome OS and ChromeVox might be worthwhile, but my suspicion is that there are issues either with the software or with how you’re using it.

Hi everyone. Looking for some help. I have a student with JAWS2019 and we were trying the MathML equation editor add-on for Google Docs. According to their website, it is a fully accessible equation editor that works with Google Docs and screenreaders but we have been running into challenges. First it creates the equation as an object with Alt-Text. I inserted the fraction 3 over 2 as an example. The alt-text title box has "3 over 2" but the description box has crazy code gibberish "<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>3</mn><mn>3</mn></mfrac></math>" which JAWS 2019 instead of the title. Is there a way for JAWS2019 to read ONLY the title and ignore the description?

Thanks, Greg

Hi, Val. To set your home page on Firefox,

1. Open Firefox.
2. Open the page you want as your default home page.
3. Press ALT plus T followed by O for Options.
4. Press SHIFT plus TAB twice to get to the list of Options categories.
5. Down Arrow once to get to the Home category.
6. TAB six times to the Use Current button, and press SPACE.
7. Press CONTROL plus W to close the options.

Your home page is now set.

Subject: how to set home page on firefocks

Can anyone tell me how to set my homepage on Firefocks?

Also, when on a website, how to stop Firefocks from saying every time,
"would you like firefocks to save your password"?

Cheers!

Val.
