Can I install jaws 18 without first uninstalling jaws 19?

Kimber Gardner

Hi,

In MS word using jaws 2019, I find that when performing a readall, the
first line of every paragraph is read twiceThat seems like a pretty
big bug and I will be emailing FS to tell them about it.

But I want to go back to jaws 2018 where this glitch doesn't occur. Do
I have uninstall my current version in order to go back to an earlier
version?

Thanks

Ok, glad you got it sorted then.

I thought something was off when you said f1 to f15 or something like that – I don’t believe any keyboard contains any function keys aside from the standard twelve, so that means the other three keys would probably be “print screen”, “scroll lock” and “pause”, as on my keyboard. I always buy used keyboards for under $20 though and they’re usually pretty old.

Re: I don't even know how to word this Jaws Question slides while video is playing in Windows Media

Sharon,

As this is a paid course I would definitely contact the provider directly asking if they have, or can create, the slide content in accessible format.  That is not an unreasonable request.

I can’t make the url public as you can’t even see the slides without a password, and it is a paid course. The pdf slides are not available for download. The only way I could have someone see the url is if they shared my screen through Teamviewer or perhaps Tandum though I doubt it.

If I ask Microsoft Disability for help, what exactly would I ask them?

Sharon,

Could you possibly share the URL for the videos you're referring to.  In instances like this I tend to find that presenters either make their PowerPoint slides available for download or a PDF equivalent thereof.  It's not always the case, and sometimes "how to find 'em" is not always obvious.  This is particularly true if this information is presented as "silent intro or outro text" on a video presentation.

How would I know if Power Point is being used or not? I don’t even know which window I’d find the slides in. I don’t think there is a separate window for them. It’s just that somehow a person is viewing them while the lecturer speaks, probably through the video on Windows Media.

I think I’d have to access them through the Windows Media program somehow if this is even possible.

By any chance are these slides being shown using Power Point?  If they are there's several tutorials available for accessing, converting and saving Power Point files as Word, TXT or other formats.  I don't personally much on reading Power Point files but, if they are Power Point files I'm sure there are many folks on the list that can help.

I haven't read all of the responses to your question on this thread and so I'm sure that most of what I'm about to say has already been covered. The only downside, if you consider it a downside, is that you'd be paying an annual fee for the software. However, the benefits far outweigh any negatives. You'd be able to access the desktop apps on more than one computer and you'd also have a terabyte of space on Onedrive. However, you will get new features sooner than you would if you bought what Microsoft calls the perpetual license of Office, such as a boxed version of Office 2019. This article explains the differences in what you'll see in Office 365, as opposed to Office 2019.

List Rules

When:
Saturday, 1 December 2018
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-05:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

We've done work for several years using Lime, its great if you have a more complex survey, need question skipping or routing, or need to do analysis. It has a lot of advanced features and both the admin and user interfaces have historically been very JAWS friendly.

Addison, you have been told to use Insert 1 and then you can check all of the keys on the keyborad yourself and find the print key.

It would be helpful when you make inquiries if you used SHORT subject lines, such as print screen, rather than the long subject lines you use.  They are irritating when one is blind and must listen to a long list of emails.

I’m getting confused here .

Generally the PrtSc (Print Screen) key is going to be located toward the upper left corner of the keyboard and the Windows Key is always near the lower left corner.

Without knowing exactly what make/model computer is involved it's impossible to say precisely where the PrtSc key is located.  I'd have to look at the owner's manual to see the keyboard layout to give a "key count" from some known position so it can be located by touch.
