Nino Dagostino
Hello:
I called tech support for jaws and they created a config file for me.
I shutdown outlook and restarted outlook and then typed in an address.
The computer still did not talk, so I shutdown the computer completely and restarted and it worked.

Re: JAWS Scripts - Are they interpreted or compiled?
Matthew Horspool
Hi Isaac, I'm afraid I'm not convinced that this is necessary or even appropriate. Freedom Scientific scripts could change at any time, even from minor JAWS version to minor JAWS version. If you restore from a personal backup of the Freedom Scientific stock scripts you could well end up restoring an earlier version which re-introduces problems which have subsequently been fixed. A JAWS repair is a perfectly adequate way of restoring stock scripts if they do go missing somehow. If you're particularly paranoid you could keep a backup copy of the JAWS installer. Matthew

Back up your user scripts folder, because this is where script files you modify are saved to, so that they do not become mixed with the scripts Freedom Scientific provides. The location of your user scripts folder is the one I provided in step 4 of Part a of my instructions.

Re: Jaws 18 and jaws 2018 Facebook
Matthew Horspool
Hi Addison, You should be able to extract my email address from any correspondence I send to the list. I don't go out of my way to hide it. However, as I say, please understand that I have relatively outdated Facebook knowledge and do not always have time to deal with emails in an efficient manner. I reply to threads on these lists when I have time on the basis that, if I'm half way through solving a problem but don't have time to finish the job for some reason, someone else can pick up where I left off. The same can't be said if you email me personally. I cannot, of course, prevent you from doing so and I will certainly not go out of my way not to reply, but I cannot offer you any guarantee that you will receive a response in a timely fashion or even that I will be able to help at all. For this reason I would strongly advise that you continue to ask your questions on-list. You will have a much greater chance of receiving a relevant and timely reply that way. If you are in particular need of 1:1 support, I would encourage you to make use of people who are paid to do that sort of job, e.g. Freedom Scientific, Microsoft or Facebook technical support departments. Best wishes, Matthew

Hi Addison, M Facebook is generally less cluttered, which is why I suspect FS tech support encourage its use. Regular Facebook is still perfectly accessible, though. Hello Addison, I am not a Facebook expert so I did not jump into this thread straight away, thinking that perhaps someone else might have a more thorough answer. But yes, the regular facebook.com website is accessible with JAWS. There shouldn't be any difference in notifications between regular Facebook and M Facebook, as far as I know. You will not get notified every time somebody posts as this is the purpose of the news feed. I hope I have understood your questions correctly. I wouldn't usually point it out, but since you bring it up, your messages don't contain very much punctuation and the wording is not very clear, so it does take quite a while for me to process what you've said and then even longer to interpret it. If you could perhaps insert a few more full stops it might make things a little easier. Best wishes, Matthew

also to add to what you just said, after a new install copy the default scripts folder some place else so you have a backup so in the future if you are modifying scripts you don't have to uninstall jaws and reinstall as there might be other scripts you have modified and would lose. On my new Windows 10 computer, I am having trouble getting Outlook 2016 to consistently auto-complete addresses.
I recall a recent thread on this issue, but don’t know if it ever got resolved.
I am currently using the latest build of Jaws 2018 on this new computer, due to the problems we are having with Jaws 2019.

Following is the punctuation script and where it is available along with installation instructions. Maybe it does needs compiling again under Jaws 2019 and so I’ll try that solution. Source: http://www.jaws-users.com/scripts/JAWS/PunctuationLevelScript.html Follow these steps to insert the code required to set up a hot key to toggle the Jaws punctuation level. press insert 0 (on the number row). press control shift D You should hear jaws script manage default.jss. Hit control+end this will take you to the bottom of the file. Hit enter twice, to insert a couple of blank lines. paste in the following lines for the script: Script TogglePunctuation () Say (PunctuationToggle (false), ot_no_disable) EndScript Place your cursor on the line that says Say (PunctuationToggle (false), ot_no_disable). Hit control+d. Hit tab this will put you on the "can be attached to key" check box, this should be checked, if it is not hit "space bar" to check it. Hit tab this will take you to the "synopsis" where you can put in a short description if you want. Tab to the "assign short cut key" field and press the keystroke you want to use for the script. Such as Control+Shift+P. Tab to the okay button and enter. This will take you back to the script editor. Press control+S to compile your changes. Press Alt-F4 to close the script editor Cheers Tom
